They need a better short passing game to sustain drives and become a modern offense.  I think we're one of the few teams that tries to rely solely on low percentage deep shots.  Caldwell needs to change the offensive scheme completely because it's wrong, not just call it better like he did in the playoffs.

This.  Everything seems to be go, curl, or screen.  I don't know why we don't use more picks to set up passes underneath.  There doesn't seem to be any creativity.

Exactly. Why we didn't lean on it today especially with Flacco's injury, I just don't know.

we really tend to suck at screens. we telegraph them almost every time though we did have one we did well today and another 2 weeks ago. In general though, we do not execute them well which could be why we don't use them very often.

We lost Pitta who was our guy in the flats who usually took those quick outs (we did one to him today) and we really did not have anyone else with the skill set outside of Marlon to try to replace that. Marlon is good, but he's still raw. My thought is that is why we didn't rely much on it this season.

Texans didn't keep him because hes not a very good #2 for the reasons you just mentioned. Hes explosive sure but sometimes all you need is to move the chains with a 4 yard toss in traffic. Jones isn't the man to get that.

I don't know about that but he has definitely been better as of late.

I've seen Jones catch some passes in traffic.  i'm mainly talking about when he has to break contact to catch and maintain possession.  If he's done it, we'd have the footage to verify.  Unfortunately, all we have are tipped interceptions to look at.

Part of it is our guys don't get open easily.  Torrey probably could do it, but we have one of the worst receiving corps in the league.

I'm not ready to say that.  He should at least be kept on as QB coach.  What he's been able to do for Joe's pocket presence is really impressive.

I definitely agree about Joe's pocket presence, it's pretty good now.

Yeah I mean there are tons of issues, but the offense is so cookie cutter.  We keep going to the same thing that hasn't been working all season.  Make some changes.  Shake things up.  Can it really turn out any worse than it already is?  If something isn't working, you need to find a way to get those weapons such as Torrey open.  Continually sending him on go routes against double coverage is ridiculous.

this team is bad wow. don't deserve playoffs this year. just un case people are wondering in order to get in we have to win next week plus a sd or mia loss.

Jesus christ man, we get it you don't like our rookie class. You don't have to post this in every thread.

I don't think it helps that our organization as a whole has a very conservative mentality.  I mean look at how long we held on to Cam when it was clear years before he was fired that he needed to go.  We don't experiment, we don't like new things, and it's part of the reason we suck this year.  If you ain't getting better, you're getting worse in this league.

I'm mean it's too early to judge, but they've disappointed a lot of people.  The only one playing significant snaps has been Elam and he hasn't been that good.  Not counting UDFAs, but Marlon has his issues too.

I'd say this class is, just like all rookie classes... a long way from showing what they really are.

I'm not even worrying about the playoffs now. Sure I'd love for us to get in, partly because Cowher has a streak of 6 that we could tie and potentially break next season lol but success seems to make Harbs & the FO ignore our issues.

Definitely agree with your last sentence. Sometimes you need a game like this.

In fact, instead of posting about how bad Flacco or the pass rush was today almost every comment in the game thread was about Elam.

for all the chumps saying jacoby doesn't help much

jacobyjonesTD.gif

Dunno who was dumb enough to say Jacoby isn't an asset to the offense but this doesn't display an ability to win hand-to-hand battles and separate for tough catches.  That's what I and a few others were talking about.  I don't recall anybody saying Jacoby doesn't help.  That's a ridiculous stretch and I hope nobody feels that way.

I really think Gary Kubiak should be under serious consideration

Ray Rice has a lot of trouble finding the hole in a zone run scheme, and it's time to get with the picture and install a truly multiple passing offense.  I've looked into it more and Kubiak is a bit stubborn like Cam was, I'm not sure he's a good answer anymore.

The thing about these RBs.... they don't follow blocks well... I watched Rice and Pierce overrun the holes formed by the Oline many times!

Any ideas? It would be nice to get a visionary like Trestman or Kelly.

I'm also a little confused as to why we didn't use Doss more.  I'm not proclaiming him to be a savior by any means, but his one catch (which was negated by a penalty) showed exactly what we've been missing as of late.  A guy that isn't afraid to go up and make a catch over the middle.

I don't have a guy off the top of my head, but Caldwell might still be the best option.  He's just gotta change, and Harbaugh has to let him.  We have to come into this century on offense to be top tier competitors.

That's what disappointed me the most. The Pats basically playing backups everywhere, on top of the fact this year's NE team is probably the worst of the last decade... Really thought the Ravens would destroy them at home...

Well said. This is pretty disappointing.

Doss is better at fighting for the ball too.  Problem is once Harbs throws you into the doghouse, it typically takes an act of divine intervention to put you on the field consistently.  Like McKinnie last year.  To be fair, I'm not sure if Doss has been consistent with making his routes throughout the season?  Anybody else know more about this?

I thought he performed pretty well at WR early this season, too.  I have no clue about his routes or anything of that nature to be honest, but he goes up after the ball and offers something over the middle.  What's the harm?
