Ref are not the reason the Ravens lost but those early phantom calls were killer. We should have recovered though, good teams still find a way to win. The Ravens just aren't a good team.

Wow, some of you are a little harsh on Torrey. He's made some really tough catches the past 2 years in particular. He does seem to have major problems getting separation though for a guy who's supposed to be one of the fastest receivers in the league. Jacoby's in-game speed is definitely way faster.

If Ozzie is a smart man, he blows the O-line up, and uses that 1st rd, pick on a serious receiver!  We lack a possession receiver. Torrey Smith has really disappointed me this year! He better not even think about #1 money or his butt can go as well!

Speed can be contained because its hard to run top speed on the various WR routes. If route running is not done crisp than a simply double coverage will take you completely out of the game. We're being harsh on Torrey because we do expect a bit more from him. We just do not have amazing route runners right now. Boldin and Housh types are what we are lacking. Marlon Brown will be that one day but hes not that consistently right now.

I haven't read anything prior, but he has been pretty bad and that's coming from a fellow Terp.

 

Things may have been different today if he had held that ball at the beginning of the game or didn't hitch step looking for the hit in the 4th. He just hasn't been making plays for some time.

Texans didn't keep him because hes not a very good #2 for the reasons you just mentioned. Hes explosive sure but sometimes all you need is to move the chains with a 4 yard toss in traffic. Jones isn't the man to get that.

So next year we have a developing receiver, X amount of developed but not standout receivers (depending on Jacoby in particular) and a blown up o-line.

 

I'm not an expert, but I do think we need some kind of schematic change. And I think it will come in the offseason. KO's a potential Pro Bowler, Yanda's one of the best (when healthy), Monroe's top 10 and Gino's getting better. Depending on what we do at RT we're already set for at least one painful transition on the o-line, can you imagine how bad things would get if we had five? Meanwhile, you're wasting away another one of Joe's good (not to mention cheap...) years by tanking an underperforming unit.

This was just a very bad game all around.  I don't think anyone stood out above the rest.  We lost as a team today, and it was at a very inopportune time.  There are a lot of issues that need to be corrected this offseason whether we make the playoffs or not.

They need a better short passing game to sustain drives and become a modern offense.  I think we're one of the few teams that tries to rely solely on low percentage deep shots.  Caldwell needs to change the offensive scheme completely because it's wrong, not just call it better like he did in the playoffs.
