Joe Flacco's Knee

227 posts in this topic

Don't take things so seriously in here EdR20.  This a forum man!  Regardless of what "label" is used in reference to criticizing or defending Flacco in here by posters (i.e. haters, apologists, fanboys etc.) you can't take that stuff too seriously!  We're ALL Ravens fans and there is no way that we're all going to see things the same way or agree on everything!  It's impossible to achieve when you have people in here that are from a variety of age groupings and personal life experiences.  Just have fun with it!

I'm not taking it that seriously; I just asked a rhetorical question. I certainly don't expect universal agreement either. That doesn't happen when even the most rational folks get together and the forum would be dull without disagreements. Some arguments are fun (the epic 4-3 vs. 3-4 debate was for a while) but the Flacco talk has just become tiresome. Looking forward to legitimate off-season talk.

Staying on topic, hope Flacco doesn't need surgery.

Yep.

Ugh, your over-the-top love for Flacco is becoming a bit too much. Regardless of drops, just hit a guy in stride every once in a while. Would love to see it.

Regardless of the throws that weren't perfect, I would love to see Torrey not drop more passes than any reciever except one. See how that works?

At first I was super angry at Deandre Levy for ruining our season, but in the end its probably for the best as long as Joe has no long term problems.

Sounds like he doesn't need surgery right? I just hope they make the right call there. If it becomes a recurring injury I will be pissed.

Your little comments like "See how that work?" are cute and all, but I am not talking about Torrey's drops. That's another topic and I would love to agree with you (cause I do) wherever/whenever that topic is. I'm talking about Joe's inability to throw the deep ball. Its maddening!

Yeah, NOT needing knee surgery is great and I guess it means it wasn't that bad of an injury. Just needs time to heal.

He said that he wouldn't so to me...Flacco is fine!

Way to take a simple comment about Torrey and Jacoby being routinely underthrown and blowing it out of proportion.

Again, as stated, I would love to have a ball hit one of our BURNERS in stride on a deep shot.

And stop with the comparisons, as they dont make sense and have nothing to do at all with what I stated.

Oh, I get it now! A burner is someone who has speed, like a 4.30 in the 40 yard dash. Let's get RG3 to run patterns.

Wow!  So our burners (i.e. Torrey and Jacoby) get 5-6 steps on their defender...are wide the hell open...and our franchise QB constantly under and overthrows them and rarely...if ever...hits them in stride...but they suck?  Ok!  Smh!

In my Darth Vader voice...Luke!  Relinquish being a "tweener".  Come on over to the dark side..... :jedi:

LOL!!!

I wasn't the one who said that they sucked. There are times when they were overthrown or underthrown. There were also times when they didn't lay out for balls they could have had like yesterday when a pass wen't off one of their fingertips in the right hand corner of the end-zone. TOUCHDOWN! Oh, no, wait! Incomplete pass!

Actually, that is exactly what a burner is.

I agree!  I said the same thing about that play with Jacoby.  I felt like he should have dove for that one.

Ok, Flacco's deep passes have sucked this year. I won't argue against that, because it is a fact.

But that is where the "excuses" come in. Do you agree that prior to this season, his deep ball has been very good, and arguably the best part of his game?

And I'm sure you know where I'm going with this, but for sake of clarity, I will ask a rhetorical question. Why was Flacco's deep throws considered to be among the best in the NFL his first five years, and suddenly turned to crap? What changed? Did he just forget how to throw the ball, or were there external factors?

Isn't it simply more logical to assume that this season was the anomaly, and not his first five years?

If we agree on all of the above, then we can see why the things said in defense of Flacco are not excuses, but reasonable defenses.

If we don't agree on that, then simply point out anything I said that is not true

Please keep this thread about his knee (and shoulder?) only.

What's up with the shoulder(?)...did he get hurt in Cincy? I missed most of that game.

Yeah he was taken down hard on his elbow and looked like it jolted his shoulder pretty good.

Sigh....and all year long, we have been saying that the OL is going to get him killed or maimed.

Kinda hard to throw a good deep ball with a defender standing on your pelvis.

Flacco has been on his back more than...nevermind. a lot
It just boggles my mind that people cannot accept the fact that a huge contract (which he earned) does not mean that he has to do the impossible.
It's simple.
Either his OL was horrible, AND his WR were mediocre at best, AND he had absolutely no help from the running game, which means that he was set up to fail from the beginning

Or

All of the above is untrue, which means that some of us are just jaded groupies who cannot accept the fact that Flacco isn't what we thought he was.
Apologists, as they like to say.

I don't know about anyone else, but it is clear as day to me which is the truth, and which is a deluded smokescreen. So, if I'm "over the top" because I can see the obvious, cool. It won't change until the day Flacco deserves it.

fly ive stopped getting involved in these debates lately because both sides have got extremely snarky rather tham debate.

But ive you reply with logical arguments like that the people that criticise joe can really have no counter argument. They dont have two feet to stand on at all.

Don't get sucked to their level. Posts like this clearly show whos thinking straight and whos trolling.

Brilliant reply.

Glad he doesn't need Knee surgery. One less excuse he will have if he under performs next year but he will still have his offensive line, new coordinator (probably), and all of the "Drops" he endures.

Sure he has a lot of drops. 27 on the year. OUt of 614 attempts. A drop percentage of 4.4%. 18 other teams in the league have  a worse percentage.

7 of which are in the playoffs.

And the top 2 teams in drop percentage with 7% and 6.6% are the Lions and Patriots.

Drops suck. Even Calvin Johnson drops the ball. But I don't want to act like that is an excuse for Flacco's lackluster year. It hurt him, yes, but his decision making and accuracy was terrible.

Although I won't blame coaching or the drops, I will say Flacco is more of a game manager QB. Which is GREAT for our team. But when Rice/Pierce can't be effective with their runs, that takes away from what Flacco is good at: Play action.

So, Let's fix that line, get these backs in shape, and run that football so we can be more effective in the air as well as the ground.

Funny thing is, I don't expect a response from these guys, because it sounds to me that they just need something to complain about after a frustrating year. Calling yourself a "tweener" in this Flacco discussion sure as heck doesn't make you any more sensible than anyone else. Just tells me that you don't look deep enough...if we win, Flacco was good that day, if we lose Flacco was bad kinda thing.

I just hope Flacco doesn't come out of this with Kyle Boller-itus.
Shell shocked, scared and fearing for his safety on every snap.
I don't care who you are. You can only get run over so much before it gets old.

there is some truth into what everyone is saying.

yes WRs dropped passes and made flacco look bad but flacco also threw inaccurate passes that made it very difficult to haul in.

1 will argue that flacco overthrew jacoby in the endzone against the bengals others will argue jacoby could have dived for it.

both are right and wrong.

lets all agree the whole offense was dysfunctional and it started all with this new fella who was supposed to make things better....

Yes, the deep ball is the best part of his game whichs makes the consistent underthrows all season evern more concerning. There were plenty of times where he wasnt rushed into a throw and the ball just fell flat or even sailed on him. I know you dont like the "tweener" tag Ive assigned myself, but I am not 100% sold on Joe Flacco being the Ravens QB for the next 7-10 years. Im just not. Doesnt mean Im on of these ignorant posters that states "he won't win a SB", "he's in the bottom 5 of the league" etc.

I expect more given his stature on this team. That is all.

I can not agree with that.
Joe is dependent on the o-line.
The o-line is not dependent on Joe.

Or

If the o-line doesnt do thier job, it makes it very very difficult for Joe to do his.

It ALL starts with the o-line.

Oh wait. You ment Castillo.
Got it.
Knee jerk reaction.
Sorry.
My bad.

I'll respond all day long, Fly. Nothing to hide from here, trust me. Its just an opinion. I think he is a good, not great quarterback. We've plently of games where Flacco has played poorly and we've lost plenty where Flacco did enough but another facet of the team contributed to a loss.

That's not how I see it Fly!  I like the "tweener" term that 1/28/01 uses.

To me, it simply means that one is on the fence where Flacco is concerned...even after 6 seasons as a starting QB.  Tweeners are not completely sold on him either way!  Nothing wrong with that cause that's their prerogative!  They are not over the top "for" him and not over the top "against" him.  They see the good, the bad and the ugly in Flacco's performances.  In my view, a "tweener" can support Flacco one minute and give him praise for a job well done when warranted and then smoke him for his piss poor gameplay (i.e. over and underthrowing receivers, not making the proper reads, holding the ball too long etc.) at the same time!

actually the o-line does depend on their QB to indentify the defense and point out a possible blitzer.

you will see guys like brady and peyton more often then not point out players to the center and audible to another play if they dont like what they see.

you rarely see guys run free at them lol.

the QB usually has a better view since both the o-line and d-line are in their stands thus blocking each other view.

doesent help flacco either then gino is new and inexperienced though and teams could key on the snap all day with that dumb padd to the knee by yanda to gino before the snap....

But yeah i meant castillo lol

What do you mean by this?

its an exception, anomaly, not a rule. Flacco was top 5 in td to int ratio prior to this year. Those first five years are what we should expect moving forward not this year.

I realize that not being 100% sold on him does not mean you are one of the trolls, or that your opinion is wrong or uneducated or any of that. The tweener comment was directed towards the people who claim to be in that category, yet ironically, their posts are nearly identical to the lynch mob, only under the guise of being neutral. I won't name names, but the ringleader of that crew is a Cowboys fan. Hint hint
