#Ravens and TE Dennis Pitta are making progress to a new deal, per sources. Nothing imminent. Sides have until March 3 before he gets tagged

No deal yet but we know what happened with Suggs when we heard they were making progress with extension talks.

Great News!

And if he hits free agency, some team will most likely over pay. Better to get a deal done now without having to use the tag which would be over paying for one year...just not worth it.

There is no such thing that is discount when it comes to business, but I think Pitta will be reasonable when coming with deal and Ravens as well...I am expecting Pitta and Ravens will reach a reasonable deal....

No he wants more than we willing to pay, let make an run at Jimmy Graham. Hopefully the saints won't put an unrestricted franchise tag on him.

Not going to happen! The Ravens could not afford to keep Boldin and Graham will want more.

Bye Pitta. Nice knowing you. Now to draft a productive TE with more than 1year of productivity @rookie contract!

That's not completely accurate. He had two very solid seasons and we would not have won Super Bowl XLIII without him.

Pitta shouldn't get a huge contract. He's pretty average for a starting TE. Doesn't block well, isn't a matchup problem, and won't command a lot of defensive attention. His hands are normally very good but not perfect. He's also a tight end, and they don't get as much money as most other positions.

Yeah, I don't like saying it because he's a stand-up guy but Torrey is borderline useless on 3rd down and in the red zone. Disappears against press and he doesn't work very well across the middle

Can't base it on last season with Pitta out, Jacoby largely out, and Boldin gone, Torrey became the one and only primary target of defensive secondaries. Marlon helped but he's was a rookie with little experience. Stokley and Clark helped some but had very limited success. In spite of that Torrey had his best year as a pro even if largely due to the fact that there wasn't much other choice at receiver for much of the season.

I had read a lot about Deonte Thompson during last year's training camp but now know that was just site and media hype (like they did with Kyle Shanahan).

And no online = 2013 offense

I have to agree with you here. I know WR is a need but without an O-line, it doesn't matter if you have Jerry Rice and Randy Moss back there, the QB won't have any time to throw it and it won't matter.

Love Pitta, really do. I think he's a good character guy and  I like the chemistry he has with Joe....

But we need to get Monroe before Pitta... All else fails we just tag Pitta. Monroe is more important. For the first time in Joe's career, we have a  potential franchise LT who historically stays healthy and such,

this may come out of leftfield but do you guys think there is any chance we make a move on jimmy graham?  i think he's a free agent and the saints got their share of priorities just like us.

Saints are not letting him go.  He'll be franchised before they let him touch the open market.  WR tag or not, they'll make room for him.

I don't get the Pitta hype at all. Let him walk, he is not that great. We can find a better replacement than him, he's no Jimmy Graham or Gronk so they shouldn't have to shell out like he is those guys. Or a top 10 TE for that matter cause he isn't. We got torrey and marlon. Are those guys great? No, but they are decent enough to catch passes. Draft Ebron and let someone else over pay this guy and be disappointed he isn't the superstar they are paying him to be.

I agree, even if Graham challenges the initial tag at TE that the Saints will go for, by the time the league decides what, he'll get signed somewhere in between

I have a bad feeling the ravens will over pay for Pitta. I'd really rather Monroe be signed

I believe we want them both, so it won't be one or the other

Pitta's already got good chemistry with Joe and signing him would free up a need to use the 1st rounder on a desperate need and really go BPA (that might then be a WR lol); also with the Combine he's had, Ebron might be gone by the time we pick

I think they'll go OLine first if Martin or Lewan are still there.

also their secondary is begging for help, so can't see them going for a TE and ignoring the two most glaring needs with players available for them to pick

We aren't being strict enough offer him a 4-5 million dollar deal if he declines move one let him hit the market go after players like Arthur Jones and Eugene Monroe or Michael OherOher who want to stay in Baltimore

It may also depend on whether they believe they can solve the problems with later round picks. Lineman appears rather deep this year.

Ebron will more than likely be gone when it comes to our pick, but we do need a TE. seeing that Clark might be done, and Dickson is also a free agent to be. if Pitta isn't willing to be reasonable forget him. Your right Pitta isn't a top 10, but then again he doesn't get the ball on every pass like Gronk and Jimmy pretty much does. But yeah, I'd rather have other guys like Jacoby get resigned. Does more than just catch a pass

So, based on this tweet, Pitta would get the WR tag.  This basically means that we have to get a long term deal done with him, because I don't see us tagging him at the WR amount.

Franchise letter leaves it to CBA, which says calculations are for “position at which Player participated in the most plays” in past year

Soon as we signed flacco to that ridiculous deal, every agent thinks Ravens can be dealt with their way. I never heard of any former Ravens filing for grievances.

That linta deal made us look like fools

I guess Terrell Suggs isn't a former Raven yet, but he files a grievance, so I hope that shoots down your ridiculous notion

Everyone says Ebron will be gone like it's a foregone conclusion and we must sign Pitta because of that. I disagree. I've seen several mock drafts where he falls to the Ravens. I mean, this is why we have the draft. So we can see where he's going to go. I think he could make it to the Ravens.

Also, for those using chemistry as a reason to re-sign Pitta, Joe had great chemistry with Heap and Mason, but he developed new chemistry with Boldin and Pitta. Joe developed some seriously quick chemistry with Marlon Brown and while we haven't found the answer at tight end if Pitta leaves, I'm sure Joe would work hard to develop chemistry with his new target

When was the slot a solely WR position?
