Matt Elam calls Megatron old

428 posts in this topic

Not to take anything from Jerry but he did have a game-breaker in John Taylor and T.O. playing alongside him for the majority of his career. He even had Tim Brown while he was in Oakland.

Beyond Roy Williams or 17 games out of 32 between '07 and '08, Johnson has never really had a viable threat alongside him.

Titus Yoooooooooung. Dude was better than CJ remember?

Anyone....

Crickets? Lol

Fair point. I just like poking the bear that is Flynismo, mostly because every time I see him post he says his location is beside my sister lol.

Elam got screwed on the Rookie of the Week nomination. They put Desmond Trufant over him and compare the two in week 15:

Matt Elam: 10 tackles,1 int, 1 tackle for loss (game winning int in a game with major playoff implications for both conferences)

Desmond Trufant: 7 tackles, 1 int (batted down 2 pt conversion in a meaningless game against an awful team that turned the ball over 7 times)

Lets see with elam. Im not sold. Lots of rookies who have flopped have the odd good game here or there. I havent seen enough in the way of passes defended and too many missed tackles for my liking from elam. I want to like him, but i just feel hes suspect to big plays.

We know that's how you feel.  How many times do you need to tell us?

The article about the players having Elam's back about his comments was great. Because things went the way they did, I think that game could be a huge boost for Elam. I've thought all season that the guy just thinks too much and tries to hard. If he just lets the game come to him he'd be so much better.

Elam talked about how he some times viewed himself as a bust already because he wasn't making the impact plays he thought he should be making. I understand putting a lot of pressure on yourself to be great like he said this offseason, but that's way too much thinking and pressure imo. I'm not saying don't expect greatness but if you are going out and trying to make greatness happen it's probably not gonna happen.

I think Flacco's comments about Jimmy fit Elam so well. When he stops thinking so much and worrying about if he's doing the right things he'll be a really good player. I think that Lions game could be a major turning point for him. I'm excited to see how he starts to play from here on out. He made plays at every level of the defense in the Lions game and that's his style of play.

Well, like, that's just your opinion, man.

Every thread on this board should have a vague Big Lebowski quote.

I think the Detroit game was a big confidence building game in multiple areas. First, Elam having his best game of the year when everybody was watching him could go a long way in helping him finish the season on a positive note. Also, the offensive line played much better than anybody was really expecting. There were multiple highlights of Yanda handling Suh, specifically. Maybe it was just a matter of time for this line to build the necessary chemistry to start performing well. I even think Jimmy Smith gets a lot of momentum after Monday night. He was already getting a tremendous amount of praise for his play this year, but the fact is, when you play that well against Calvin Johnson (especially after performing very poorly against him in their only other meeting last pre-season), the overall confidence of the secondary and Jimmy's individual confidence is going to have to sky-rocket.

As long as we don't have a major letdown game over the next two weeks, this team could have more momentum than anybody in the league if we win the last two and steal the division away from Cincinnati.

"We need to win this week."

"What do you mean 'we.'  Are you ON the team?"

"No, like, the royal we.  You know, the editorial...."

"What in God's name are you blathering about!!?"

Amazing, both of you.

Anyway, we're about 12 hours from finding out if Elam can put together back to back impressive games.
