WR Brandon Stokley to IR

34 posts in this topic

Ravens expected to place wide receiver Brandon Stokley on injured reserve due to a concussion, according to a source. Hasn't happened yet

That's a shame.  He did some good things when he was healthy, but that was few and far between this season.  Hopefully he calls it a career.  It was good to see him back with the Ravens no matter how short lived it was.

WIth that being said, who takes his roster spot?  I don't see anyone on the practice squad worth bringing up right now.  I imagine we just stick with 5 WR's.  Could Bernard Scott come back for depth?

It's a cryin' shame that Stoke is done. He would have helped tremendously down the stretch and into the post season.

Thanks for trying Brandon!

Can't say I'm surprised this is how things are going down. I will say he contributed more than I thought he would though.

I really like Stokley. I hope he doesn't end up with serious damage. Too many concussions can lead to a lot of nasty things.

On the bright side, I hope Gerrard Sheppard gets called up. I know it's a long shot.

I know I just said above that I think we stick with 5 WR's, but then LaQuan hit me.  Is it possible we bring him back?  He was probably the next in line for a WR spot.  He'd be a reserve WR and a nice STer that knows the system.  I actually think it would be a good move.

kinda sucks to have to wish the steelers good luck on sunday . I hope stokley recovers fully might be a good idea for him to retire.

I thought laquan was with the patriots now

LaQuan was released a few weeks back.

Another hit to the depth charts... At least the core of Torrey, Jacoby and Pitta is back in business. Brown is a good addition and Dickson can get back to focusing on blocking.

Even if we do add another WR to the roster, he'll likely be inactive on gameday. I think we stick with 5 receivers.

Who knows what we pick up? Ozzie's unpredictable with these sort of things. He might even go and pick up a linemen.

I think WR, CB, and RB are the most likely, though.

Agreed. He is clutch slot guy. Still gets open and knows where the chains are. Bigger loss than many realize.

I'm in favor of this too. He's a pretty good special teams player as well as a decent receiver.

Aaron Wilson reports Bernard Scott to be re-signed.

As I suspected.  He'll remain a weekly inactive.

Only to be inactive again these next few weeks :P

I'm down with it. It's important to have a third back on the roster when we use Pierce and Rice as extensively as we do.

Yeah for sure.  I would still rather it be someone like Anthony Allen or Damien Berry who both offer something on ST.  I think Scott was useful depth when Rice and Pierce were banged up, but now that he's not going to get any carries, why not bring in a guy that can play ST at least?

Juice is technically doing what Anthony Allen did last year on special teams and he's getting better but I understand what you mean ..

Even if he came back and did just general ST duties, I think he'd be a better option than Scott.  Neither of them are ever going to see a carry, so why not bring in a guy that at least offers something?

Seems like a "save face" IR move for the playoff push. With Pitta back, and the team going back to a more vertical passing attack as before, Stokely is not needed. rather than cut him, you IR him. You need a 3 RB's more than you need a 6th WR. Also it prevents a team from picking him up and mining for info.

How do you get a concussion from one 2 yd reception where you were not even tackled hard? Stokely doesn't play ST, I dont think either.

They should have kept him in my opinion.  Does not sound like his injury is season ending, but I'm no doctor.

I have no clue I was surprised when the ravens didn't re-sign berry or allen

That's a shame. My main hope is that we don't add another to the list of people to have serious post-concussion symptoms after retiring from the NFL.

By the way, Stokley played on 5 different teams in the NFL, and he wore 5 different jersey numbers. Weird?
