The Return of Dennis Pitta

97 posts in this topic

Dennis Pitta came through in a major way for us today. He provided an excellent, middle of the field weapon for us, and actually brought some good stability back to the TE position. How much of an impact do you see him having for us the rest of the way, and is he the spark the offense was sorely missing??

He seemed to be one of those missing keys on 3rd downs.  While he was obviously shaking off some rust, Flacco had no issues throwing to him.  He provides another red zone target as well.

That diving catch was a beauty, too.

Pitta's play on the field and intangibles to the team make a difference to the offense, especially Joe knowing that he has 88 on the field during a high pressure play....just wish that the D had that type of inspiration/motivation to knock some folks around or at the very least wrap up on first contact.

We missed him so much. Just think of all the close games we lost. (Every one but Denver).

Without him, it would've most likely been the same story.

He took a lot of big hits today too. I'm glad he got right back up!

The Pitta power definitely showed in his first game back.  Joe loves that dude.  Made many clutch catches after shaking off the rust early on.

Big addition down the stretch.

He plays today solidified my opinion that we need to draft marquise lee. Route running and having that smarts to get open are key. Pitta excels at just creating a window for joe to hit. We badly need a wr to do that

I think we are fine with Marlon Brown & Torrey. Torrey has improved his route running a lot and Marlon is coming along great! I'd like to see us be able to keep Jacoby next season and our need at WR will depend on that IMO. We do still have Thompson & Mellete who both show promise as well.

It is one of the things that I think we do not do correctly. I'd much rather see us utilize our young talent than bring in these veterans to take away playing time.

Jacoby is far more dispensable than Pitta. He needed a couple plays to knock the rust off his play, but he quickly became our most dependable pass catcher.

I'd take the gamble of Doss, Thompson and Mellette making up for the loss of Jacoby, rather than losing Pitta, if it's an either or decision.

Flacco stood around looking for open receivers for much of the first half. I like Jacoby, but a kick returner is no replacement for a legit #2. We need to pick up a good WR in the next draft.

we are far from fine at receiver. Torrey drops too many passes to be dependant upon. We need someone else

We'll just have to agree to disagree.

The problem I see is that Torrey is not yet a true #1. Jacoby is doing fine as a #2. He's improved his routes, he is finally starting to make catches with his hands and sees more separation than anyone else so far.

As I said, even if we do not manage to keep Jacoby, we already have Marlon Brown, Deonte Thompson & Aaron Mellete. I see nothing that would prevent Marlon from being a #2 next season.

That's true and that is why I think the real issue is that Torrey is not yet a true #1, not that Jacoby isn't a true #2.

Apart from the early rust (which was to be expected, really) he was aces for us. Same with Marlontron. No blame to Torrey for being covered though, but those guys in the under routes? Wow.

Let's just hope the line can block long enough for Joe (they were getting pushed around like nothing today) to throw to them. But that's another thread...

Drawing that flag on what would have been the game-ending 4th INT was, perhaps, the play of the game.  That is, along with the 5 or six other plays of the game that occurred in the final 2 minutes.

Pitta's for sure my backup TE for the fantasy playoffs...after I benched Jordan Cameron today. But in real football news that people actually care about, man was it great to get Pitta back today. Who could've guessed a big, reliable TE our QB uses as a security blanket would be a big part of our offense? We've got a tough few games left to make it to the postseason, but having Pitta back gives me hope we will be playing football in January.

Don't leave home without him!

off topic..... Gronk out with torn ACL.

Totally off topic. Why don't you throw snowballs at him like you did AP. Don't make us all look bad. Have some class.
