Patriots?

They'd be the obvious answer in my mind.

Good entry. The patriots would have a legitimate argument (based on the criteria from this post) for best franchise in the past 5 years if they actually won a Super Bowl and those years posted. Now, if they win the SB for this season and the Ravens and the 4 other SB winners of the last 5 years fall flat - they will have a great argument for the 'Best Franchise for the Last 6 Years'. That being said, they still most likely can't break the 'Best Post Season Winning Percentage Average' (only GB could challenge that stat), they still most likely can't statistically average above all others in 'Estimate Value', and although they will lead the pack in 'Season Games Won' it will be only if no featured SB teams win 14 games in 2014 and the Patriots continue to win 11+.

Still, it's a great post and input. Thanks.

From the stand point of fielding a winning squad year after year despite injuries . Its hard to pick anyone other then the Patriots, but my heart screams the ravens are now and will always be the best .

Agreed. My heart, soul (and mind) is still with the Ravens. As far as the Patriots go?:

As history will chronicle, the Ravens only took less than 20 years of existence to win 2 Superbowls while the Patriots took nearly 60 years to win 3 Superbowls (none after Sky Gate). Not to get into a pointless debate about 'Patriots' greatness (all in the eye of the beholder - same as the Ravens) - I resubmit: We are just getting started, but there aren't any SB winning franchises in the past 5 years (including whoever wins this year) that have more of an opportunity to become that next Dynasty (2008 through 2018) than the Ravens. Super Bowl wins and playoff winning % really go along way and nobody's caught-up to us, yet (despite our 8-8 season).

its hard to remember we are a young franchise especially with the success we have had . No need to worry I won't debate anything about the patriots they are well coached have one of the best qb's  possibly ever to play the game, but at the end of the day the ravens are my team and even if we finish dead last every year that's not changing , I'm not going anywhere !

growing pains fade ,,wait til next year .

BOLD PREDICTION

My NFL AFC North 2014-15 Season Picks

1- Baltimore Ravens 11-5

2- Pittsburgh Steelers 9-7

3- Cincinnati Bengals 8-8

4- Cleveland Browns 7-9

Some people have us at 10-6 or less and old favorites like the Patriots and Broncos getting higher seeds in the playoffs. I strongly disagree. I think we continue this journey towards being considered 'the' NFL's new Dynasty from 2014 through 2018. A single playoff win next season will help to solidify this. It is very likely that we humble the doubters once again.

Prediction is looking good...only thing with me however is, that I cant see the browns winning 7 games hah. That would honestly be an over achievement as of now. But free agency and the draft is coming up, so who knows, could strike gold or mold

Okay, so when I shave with a dull razor, I get all those purple blood spots on my face. That being said, that question on this site...isn't it a little bit biased as far as polling goes?

I voted Ravens naturally.

Trying to be as objective as possible. Just updated the original post and the Ravens are still out-performing all of the other Super Bowl winners (including Seattle) when looking at the overall 2008-2014 numbers. I think that sometimes we focus on immediate success and overlook the entire body of work. The Ravens still have the strongest arguement to be crowned an NFL Dynasty by 2018 (just another SB and 3 winning seasons away).

Ravens Dynasty 2014 Upate: Forbes Ranking

10th - Baltimore Ravens

Team value: $1.5 billion
Revenue 2013: $304 million
Operating income 2013: $57 million

The Ravens inked a 10-year extension to its stadium naming rights sponsorship with M&T Bank in May worth $60 million and will run through the 2027 season.

Only 1 ranking down from 9th last year - Not too bad. We didn't make the playoffs, yet we still didn't really drop in value here.

Dynasty Update:

With the Patriots Dynasty taking such hit from NFL insiders lately, I decided to go back to a post from last year.

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/story/21799293/ravens-lock-down-plan-players-notably-a-qb-for-next-dynasty

It's really still early in this season and alot still has to be proven, but the possibilities are unlimited.

Maybe just maybe they were on to something.

GO Ravens!!!

I remember the early days of Ted Marchbroda, 16-31-1, and when Modell was too broke to afford a practice squad and those ugly Winged B logos. We started in Baltimore with a plastic spoon in our mouths, while the new Cleveland Browns got the Silver Spoon treatment. Too bad for them!

One of the things that leads me to believe that we are the next dynasty is how fast we rebuilt from loosing all those players after the Super Bowl. We have only a handful of the players that we had during 2013 but yet here we are headed for the playoffs if we continue at the pace of the first 4 games. Consider that we have done this with some significant player injuries. Then remember that our down year was 8-8. I can not think of another team that can say they have had this kind of success over the last 6 years and are poised to continue their winning seasons for years to come with all the great young talent we have. Overall we have a winning combination of owner, GM, scouting and coaches. We are going to be relevant for years to come.

Hi, I have been reading about this topic and gathering some thoughts and opinions and finally I have come to a point that Raven's fans are still positive  that  Baltimore Ravens will still be the best and successful team over the 5 years. However, we really never know what comes next:)

Because most NFL polling only compile rankings based on 10 year standards, it is difficult to access where the 'new' franchise potential leader trends are. As a result, I've broken it down to three of the most critical historical categories in determining a football dynasty:

  • Super Bowl Championship*
  • Winning Percentages
  • Sales/Value/Popularity

*Since championships are the most standardized indicator of a dynasty, all teams in this poll have had Super Bowl appearances and/or wins in the last 6 years.

Based on these indicators, the Baltimore Ravens have the best argument 'forevermore' going down in NFL history as the strongest team franchise from 2008-2014.

Your stats are excellent.  They proove our value with substantail real evidence.

Side Note: In my opinion, for merchandise sales, the Steelers are number one due to large retail store sales, possible due to black yellow color combinations and that rag they feed you about their 70's teams . We won two SBs in 16 years   It took them 44 years to get a championship.

For a view into intangables, we suffered a media scorning for a once beloved player, who's contract was terminated. 27

Your viewpoint is refeshing and clear.  You can also think that our 8-8 year had attached turbulation followed by chaos regarding our running back scandal. Our Team and Fan Loyalty is uniquely rooted.

Great Things to Take Away into 2015 Season

Most Postseason Road Games Won, All-Time, 10

1st Ravens - Highest All-Time Postseason Winning Percentage, 0.682

2nd Greenbay - Postseason Winning Percentage, 0.608

Best Playoff Quarterback Ratings Joe Flacco Still Leads Brady, 88.6

Brady, 88.5

With all that has happened we are still in a great position to be the "Next Great NFL Dynasty" by 2018.

Sometimes the BIG Picture is right in front of us if we only open our eyes to see it.

Irony is so Ironic

Baltimore Ravens are still overwhelmingly historically rated 'The Best Defense' in NFL History.

As ESPN's John Clayton wrote last year, "The Ravens have that rare ability to reach into the chest of an opposing offense, remove its heart, squeeze it and return it to victims like a deflated football."

This was before DeflateGate. Just imagine what a healthy defensive backfield could do this legacy.

Let them get away with whatever. The Patriots belong to us and us only! Seattle may beat them, but we will end them.

Damn. Wouldn't have known That. A solid draft and just some luck health wise and we should be pretty damn good next year. Will be interesting to see the moves made this off season.

Absolutely. imo - The Ravens FO is planning with longterm goals in mind. What makes me confident that all those 2014 deficiencies will be addressed is the simple fact that that's what they've been doing for years. Remember last year's O-line issues? Just wait. 2015-16 is going to be EPIC.

I'd say you can go back 7 years for and the Ravens could be on top.  The issue I have is that the Ravens sale value is not going to be as high as other teams becaise of its relatively short though illustrious history and it being a medium-sized market team.

I started my collection fifteen years ago with a Ogden Jersey as a Christmas gift 31 jerseys, a Superbowl champ shirt, a conference champ shirt, two hoodies, an embrace the grind shirt, two draft caps, 4 hats, 4 bar stools, a flask, several shot glasses, a coffee table, and several other various pieces, I feel I need more. It is really my only vice other than Glenfiddich and McCallans.

Ok, who voted steelers lol

Ravens have had great success in past & look to continue the trend. And it was done without cheating, constant coaching turnover, close to 20 players on it in a season, and not sacrificing the future to "win it all"

Damn proud of our team (even this last season)

Where are the Patriots in this poll? SMH.

Because the Patriots had not won a Super Bowl in years they were not polled. Only recent SB Champions in the past years were the focus for which team could be the next Dynasty or Best Franchise going into the future.

Since 2005 the Patriots are more similar to the Bills of their era. Four consecutive SB appearances, but no championships. This in no way says that historically the Patriots may not be considered as one of the legendary frachises like Colts, Packers, Steelers, 49ers, Cowboys, etc. They simply aren't a 'new' up-and-coming recent SB winner based on time of the poll.

Agreed. Along with the Forbe's value assessment and other 'value' measures, any young franchise can only see trending growth and/or decline in a smaller window. It's incredible how the Ravens have done with a smaller market team. If we continue to trend upwards (SB Championships, Value and Winning Percentages) there's no telling where we'll end-up. There's no doubt we're positioned to do so.
