Purple Punishment

Let's hire Gary Kubiak?

42 posts in this topic

Everyone wanted him gone from the Texans so he could come here to be the OC. Half the wish just happened. I made this thread because it was going to be done one way or the other.

I'm honestly good with Caldwell. He has done a lot with our subpar talent here

You can't hate the ZBS and want Kubiak.  His offensive philosophy is LARGELY based on ZBS.  It's a big part of what they do.

One of the biggest knocks on Kubiak is that he doesn't know how to make in-game adjustments.  That's exactly NOT what we need.

I'm on this badwagon. Kubiak knows how to run an offense. I was of the incliniation that we should have hired Norv when we had the opportunity but this would be even better.

I'm so tired of the vanilla predictable offense of Cam *cough*... I mean Caldwell.

No thanks. Can someone explain to me why they are so high on Kubes?

The guy can't make in game adjustments and his play-calling is extremely conservative.

I would have a full set of grey hair in about 5 weeks with him as our OC. Watching him call nothing but 8 yard passing plays destroying one of Flacco's greatest attributes. I know Schaub's noodle arm had a lot to do with it, but Kubes terrible imo. Cam running the show was painful enough.

I'm perfectly happy with Caldwell, but Kubiak could be useful as an offensive assistant. Don't want too many voices, though.

I don't get it. Maybe because he's just a popular name I guess.

I'd like to see us move on from the Cam/Caldwell era of coaching, but Kubiak isn't the guy. He's conservative, he loves the ZBS, and he couldn't make an in-game adjustment to save his life. We don't need more of the same, we need someone willing to mix things up.

We have someone that does just that. Caldwell is great for in game adjustments. He's definitely willing to mix things up.

Caldwell got it done when it mattered most and righted this ship to win a Lombardi!

My only concern with Caldwell is his desire to head coach again.  Won't be long before we watch another coach leave our organization to fill the big shoes somewhere.  Hope it isn't after this season.  Another year of continuity can only help our team.

Whoop the Vikes boys, and lets solidify that Wild Card slot!

the answer is noooooooooooooooooooooooo,

kubiak's offense is very predictable, bootleg run, bootleg run, bootleg pass= pic 6 or punt.

We need an aggressive OC. I don't like Caldwell using Cams offense and his play calling has been very suspect this year. I think Kubiak is a step up but not what we need in the long run.

This. I like Caldwell and think that the o line just needs to improve for the offense to take off. Pitta being back will help as well.

he can be our qb coach  but  theres no reason to make him our offensive coordinator  if Jim Caldwell is still around.

I agree and just like Pees on the defense last year, Caldwell just had to deal with issues of his own. Young receivers who will continue to grow as players and grow to be more comfortable in the system. The Pitta injury really hurt as he was going to be replace Boldin as the go to guy. With Pitta coming back, Caldwell will be able to go back to mixing things up and our offense will be great again.

Is something wrong with Caldwell that I'm missing? He's doing a good job for us.

He has his faults but he's way better than Cameron. Sometimes Caldwell's play selection is iffy to downright stale and predictable.

Yeah he sure does have his moments, he looks like a genius one moment and pretty lame the next, but I think overall he is an asset, not a liability....unlike certain other Offensive Camerons who have been here in the past

This is so untrue.  He utilized it because Arian Foster was a monster with the scheme and it fit the players.  It's not part of his philosophy.

Last time I checked he wasn't their offensive coordinator.  He was the head coach.  Pretty sure he wasn't calling plays.

He's Shanahan's literal disciple.  Kubiak built his team to fit the zone blocking scheme he used with Terrell Davis and Elway in Denver.

We don't need another OC who cannot make in-game adjustments. We had that in Cam Cameron (anyone remember that?? Yeah... we don't need to go there again...)

I like Caldwell. He is not afraid to change things up, and he is not afraid to try new things. He experiments a lot at this stage, which is why one moment he looks absolutely genius, and others he looks like a terrible coach. I'm looking for more consistency out of the offense in these next few games, as well as next year. Is he an elite OC?? By no means. But the question is this:

Of the available coaches, who is better as an OC than Caldwell?? I'm not coming up with an answer.

Wow. You are well informed. Yes he was the head coach, and yes he was calling the plays.

Smh.
