Gary Kubiak has been fired

They could have let the man finish the season. After making the Texans even relevant which was a daunting task. He made them favorites to goto the SB. His team didn't meet the publics expectations. He could have been given the rest of the season especially after the fact that it seemed he was laying his health down to make his team operate and function. He will make a phenomenal OC somewhere!

Watching the press conference on NFL Network now, it's amazing to think the Texans have been this bad. With the core players they have, you think no way.

So who replaces him?

I was thinking about it, I can see Bill over in Houston. NFL N also reports they do plan on talking to Lovie Smith.

I don't think Cowher leaves the east. Bet he's holding out for Washington.

Lovie Smith is on their short list, should have a good chance - he could make their D nasty again and might go for a certain DE and not a QB as the 1st pick in the next draft

Here's the thing... this is actually a really good team who failed because of poor quarterback play. This will entice any coach to want to come to Houston.

Id be dumbfounded if they decide not to take Bridgewater

the way i see it, there's quite a few decent QBs and they could trade down a few places, get a good player there and then come back to the mid 1st round with the extra picks and get a QB there, but you could also be right

I don't think Lovie is a good scheme fit for them. And their gm could also be on the chopping block.

No chance, their GM was on stage with owner Bob McNair after they announced the firing of Kubiak.

I still don't get firing HCs mid-way through a crappy season. It's going to suck regardless of who takes over and, if the interim isn't going to be the guy next year, then what is the point?

Exactly. If you're that bad you're gonna fire your coach anyway, just go for broke and suck badly enough to get the first draft pick. Which, if the season ended today, pretty sure the Texans would own it anyway.

This reminds me of Billick getting fired. Granted, we waited until the end of the year but it was the home loss to the winless Dolphins that was the last straw for Ozzie. Losing again to the Jaguars in prime time sealed Kubiak's fate.

Don't make it worse than it was. We lost to the Dolphins in Miami.

Home or away, it doesn't make any difference.  Cam Cameron's short tenure as a head coach produced arguably one of the worst NFL teams of all time IMO.  It's a humiliating loss.
