Why The Hate?

148 posts in this topic

well, i thought the topic why the hate about the Redskins was very interesting so i thought why not make a Steelers edition??? tell me why you hate the steelers.

WHY I HATE THE STEELERS:

1. Because they are our division rivals of course
2. They have fans everywhere!! basically anywhere you go there are gonna be tons of Steelers fans
3. This probably goes hand in hand with number two. their fan base is filled with band wagoners. every team has them but i think this team has the most. and they are very unclassy.
4. I dont know if its just me but they (the actual team) seem very cocky to me. anthony smith their back up safety thinks he's some kind of prophet predicting wins. Hines Ward is always smiling. and even mike tomlin seems kind of cocky to me. i cant explain why but he just comes across as cocky to me.
5. Hines Ward has yet to be JACKED UP!
6. Hines Ward has yet to stop smiling! (hopefully 5 and 6 will happen sunday)
7. it just really angers and annoys me when i see team defense 1. Pittsburgh Steelers 2. Baltimore Ravens.............does anybody else feel that way??
8. they get too much attention

tell what YOU think of the steelers and why

I hate the Steelers for a multitude of reasons.

-Their fans are the most annoying of any professional sports team. So many of them are not from Pittsburgh it is disgusting. It always cracks me up to hear someone with a Baltimore accent rooting for the Steelers. Tell me, how does that bandwagon feel?

-I hate most of their players. I do not respect Ben Roethlisberger, I think he is overhyped and has been the product of a good defense bailing him out.

-They always seem to get lucky, like the Cowboys player kicking his fair catch to the Steelers player on Sunday.

-Hines Ward. What a dirty player. Most of his hits are legal, and yes he is a good receiver. But to celebrate him for blindside hits on people that cause them serious injuries is ridiculous. I would not applaud his actions if he were on my team. There might not be a more hated player in football. I believe in Karma, and Hines will have his due.

-Their coach. Mike Tomlin annoys me to no end. He is a punk, and his whole team is full of punks. They are arrogant and cocky. Boy, nothing like seeing a head coach flying ****** bump one of his players.

-Steeler fans again. I can't stand them. I make it a point at every game to talk trash to as many as I can, and they never do anything but shut up. And for all of those Steeler fans that think there are 20 to 30,000 Steeler fans at our home games, they are sadly mistaken. There hasn't been those kind of numbers since Memorial Stadium. Baltimore is no longer Steeler Country, it is Ravenstown, and we don't want you here. You can take your dumb towels that your annoying announcer created and shove them where the sun don't shine, and you can all climb on that comfy bandwagon and go to another city. It is easy to support a team that is consistently a winner, but when you stick by your home team through thick and thin, it is way more satisfying that to be a fair weather fan of a rival.

Well, first off they are our division rivals. Not sure where/when the hate started, but I know for a fact that when the Steelers come to town I encounter alot of their fans on I-83 SB on game day. They wave their terrible towels. I can remember several encounters on 83 regarding single finger displays and even being mooned by a Squealers fan on I-83 no less. I think their fans generaly display a lack of class at M&T and they provoke us to engage based on their unruly and arrogant displays at our HOUSE. I strongly suggest, as I have many times, that our season ticket holders refrain from selling their seats to Pitt fans.

I actually kind of feel sorry for them. They have the 3rd dirtiest city in the USA (thanks Kodak), their stadium is named after ketchup, 20% of their households live below the poverty line, and most of their fans have small hands and smell like cabbage. They have nothing to live for but their Steelers. And what is waving a towel around in the air something cool or intimidating. Its a towel their is nothing terrible about it, its actually quite useful. you can dry off with it, wipe up spills, use it as a protective layer between yourself and the sand. Not terrible at all. God I hate the Steelers

Reasons why I dislike (not necessarily HATE) the Steelers:

1) Division rival; that's the obvious and most important reason, above all else.

2) Joey Porter; even though he's now a Miami Dolphin, I never liked his mouth off the field. A lot of our rivals' fans talk about Ray Lewis' trash-talking, but a big difference is, Lewis does the bulk of it ON the field, and most of what he says isn't nearly as inflammatory as Porter's comments. There's a fine line between manning up and taking things too far. Also, I'll never forget Porter shoving Todd Heap when Heap was visibly hurt and the Ravens were trying to line up for a quick spike of the ball.

3) 2000 Ravens Defense vs. insert-your-championship-Steel-Curtain-D-here; even though you can't go wrong with either defense, the fact remains, the Steelers' defensive stalwarts often had the benefit of an average-or-better offense to support them. The 2000 Ravens defense had virtually NO offense whatsoever to complement them, and had to manufacture points to WIN games more than once. Therefore, bias aside, I believe the 2000 Ravens should win that argument.

4) Hines Ward; he might be a great teammate, but I still don't agree with his style of football. People might call it "physical" and "old-school," but in today's game, there's no room for blindsides and cheap shots with how much faster the game is than before.

5) Media attention; the Steelers may have a long and storied history, but a lot of sportscasters inflate the Steelers year-in and year-out based on just that history alone. Pittsburgh could play horrible football, and they will rarely get called out for it. And Steelers fans may try to make the argument that Steelers football has almost never been horrible, BUT...well, let's face it, how come it took the Steelers so long to win their most recent championship, after that string in the '70s? This is one of the few instances where I DO care about the media, because it's one of the reasons why the Ravens and other smaller-market teams get no significant exposure -- it's a chain reaction effect.

6) James Harrison; the guy has his big breakout game on Monday Night Football against the Ravens, and after only two good seasons, people are ready to crown the guy a future Hall of Famer.

7) One of my exes; after I left her, she blindly became a Steelers fan to spite me because of her most recent boyfriend. And yet, she knows nothing about football and will just root for the Steelers for the sake of her boyfriend. Even though I'm on reasonably good terms with her, I'm constantly reminded of why it was a good decision to break up with her to begin with. For better or worse. <_<

8) Constant defensive comparisons; this is unrelated to the earlier reason. The reason why this bothers me is because the Ravens, in my eyes, play faster defense than the Steelers do. And though the Steelers may have a slight edge in some stats, there's a reason why the Ravens' defense caught my eye and made me a football fan instead of the Steelers'.

I probably have more, but again, it's more of a dislike than a hatred of the Steelers.

As for the Browns...well, I could probably go on forever about why I HATE the Browns...

Like Franchise stated in reason #7 for him.

So many people just hop on the bandwagons. And that makes me dislike the team even more than I already did.

Oh, and second, Ed Reed is sooooo much better then Troy Polamalu :D

Sorry, I had to go there.

But either way, Steelers play rough-tough football, while the Ravens play fast, intense, and turnover-making savvy plays. There is a reason why we are so great when it comes to scoring defensive TD's. That's where it counts most.

And one more reason, they have the most overrated Quarterback. The guy was injured for the 2006 season, sure, but for the past 3 years, he has only been good because of the defense.

And my friend, reluctantly to say, is a Steelers fan, which there are a lot at my school, IN MARYLAND. He comes up to me and tries to make an argument about how James Harrison is better than Ray Lewis.

Enough said.

Well...Terrell Suggs isn't exactly handsome neither, so I'm not sure you can use looks as a reason for not liking a player.

J/k. :P

LOL. Works for me.

Like Franchise said, it's more of a dislike than a pure hatred. I have too much respect for what they do year in and year out and for their style of play to really say I hate them. Simply put, they are too much like us for me to truely hate them. Both teams are too similar in style and make up for me to truely hate them or what they set out to do each game.

I also don't hate Hines Ward style and in fact wish we had a WR who would go out and lay out Troy once in a while.

Their fans are the most un-housebroken or tied with Eagle fans. I don't any other fan base that thinks it OK to hit people with the yellow towels and dump beer on other fans, or spit at you as they walk by. What is funny is the fans at 3 Rivers were much nicer then the ones that come to M&T.
Joey CheapShot Porters hit on Todd Heap.
Tomlin is a punk and whiny butt, he pouts on the sidelines when things are not going his way.
Hines Ward, many of his hits are not warranted.

I must say I do like the Steeler "regulars" that post on this site year round and appreciate the way you policed your own that was misbehaving.

I do not hate the team, I have a healthy respect for what Dick Lebeau has done with that D for the better part of two decades. I do however have a strong dislike for a vast majority of Steeler Fans, and living in Pitt is absolutely unbearable when home games are played. I have seen some really stupid heckling of other teams fans bordering on the absurd, how for example is winning by a field goal and being outplayed kicking some teams arse?

I know alot of Ravens fans hate the team for one or more reasons but really I have always felt that the only real reason to hate them is more often then not they are the only competition for the Ravens on D. What other teams can honestly say they have dominated year in and out like the Ravens and Steelers, the AFCN is known more or less for knocking the snot out of every other team with Bmore and Pitt at the forefront of that. The teams have off seasons but always seem to maintain a status quo of excellence on D that no other division can boast.

So in closing

STEELERS FANS typically suck!!!!

Also, the Steelers was the only Franchise to vote against the Browns moving to Baltimore.

Up yours Rooney family!

Okay but how fair? Just a year after we were a team and still building? 2 shutouts is better than 1! :P

I hate them for numerous LEGIT reasons, like Hines Ward and Ben WORTHLESSberger. BUT I hate them for plenty of immature reasons as well. The fans are annoying and tend to be a little on the trashy side(a number of them at least.. not you WARDEN!!!.. lol im talking mostly females. I've yet to meet an attractive female steelers fan) I think the teams colors are UGLY and their stadium and CITY is arguably the worst in the entire NFL.

Edit: I meant numbers 4 and 6, especially about Hines Ward.
