Great Skins Fan Story

25 posts in this topic

I took my dear buddy to the game Sunday.
Sadly he is a skins fan :(

He was wearing his portis jerzey quite proudly.

On that first really good portis run he stood up and turned around to all the fans behind him and pointed to his jerzey and said "Yeah portis"
Wile his back was turned Ed Reed stripped the ball and ran it in for a tough down.

He turned back around hearing all the comotion with a look of shock and horor.

Kinda hard to feel cool after that one eh' buddy?

He did not do or say much the rest of the night.

At least he was a good sport.

And *that* is why I don't like 'Skins fans; been around enough of them when I lived in the College Park area years back (and my wife's side of the family were all rootin' tootin' and terrible babies when they lost type of 'Skins fans...I enjoyed it in the 90's when my second team - Dallas - won many times!)

You don't turn around and do that in the other teams' stadium, as that's just asking for a) a beer shower, B) the bad karma to happen (ala Ed Reed in this case), or c) both of the aforementioned.

Just sit, enjoy the game, and be proud of your team.

Just my take anyway. :)

Two tickets = $170
Concessions = $190

The look on my buddy's face after Ed Reed stripped the ball and ran it in for a
tough down, While his back was turned. = PICELESS$$

What a great story!! That should be a Super Bowl Commercial!

Awesome. There were a couple of annoying Skins fans in my section, including one teenage girl who screamed at the top of her lungs all game and kept running her mouth along with this one guy....UNTIL D-Mase shut them up for good. Needless to say, a chorus of boo's and F.U.'s followed them inside.

I feel his pain.

I was in Miami last year and when we went for the winning OT field goal and my wife, myself, and the THOUSANDS of other Ravens in the stands were already celebrating the close win. Well, we all know what happened. Stover pulled left and three plays later it was over. The Fish fans sent us outta there feeling like complete tards. A guy in front of me ripped his jersey off and threw it over the wall to the parking lot below. Nothing but Dolphins showing their asses to the parade of Baltimore busses leaving.

Still, its awfully funny when it happens to other fans.

Can you feel the soul-crushing, lose to the s**tiest team in the league on a Stover MISS disappointment about to happen? I can still taste the throw-up in my mouth.

He's not a real Redskins fan until he pulls that same stunt in Philly. Then he'll have earned his fandom.

No doubt the better team won. It's pretty impressive that the Ravens have been able to keep this defense so incredibly competitive for so long! But, its even more impressive to me what they've done on offense. They've basically rebuilt the entire offense minus Todd Heap in the last three years. The way they've built the O-line over the last few years is impressive. This line and running game are just going to get better.

We think that we have it bad in Baltimore and Washington with regard to opposing fans...you don't know what you're talking about until you go to a game in Florida. In 2004 I saw the Terps' basketball team play at Miami. I had a friend that went to school down there, and when I saw Miami on Maryland's schedule I made plans to visit her and her boyfriend at that time. We got tickets well in advance of course; the game was at 3 PM on a Saturday, and I flew out of DCA at 6 AM that morning. There were a few other Terp fans on the flight going down which I thought was cool, but when we arrived in Miami the gate next to us was a flight from BWI. That plane was debarking at the same time, and half of the flight had people wearing Terp gear! I even brought my Maryland car flag to put on my rental car, and I had two people in the city of Miami honk and me and give me the thumbs up. When we got to the game itself Maryland fans literally made up half of the crowd. (We would have been the majority if not for Miami's band and student section.) The yell of "O!" during the national anthem was defeaning, and when Gary Williams came onto the court before the game he got a standing ovation. Maryland ended up loosing that game thanks to a horrible call by the ref in OT, but it was really weird to see so many Terp fans in an arena so far from home. (I remember listening to the Hurricanes call in show after the game on the radio, and in between people complaining about the number of opposing fans, most of their callers agreed that Miami won on a bad call by the referee.) Needless to say, most of Florida's stadiums/arenas are everyone's home!

Oh, it's insane how many Ravens were there last year, Even THIS year the stands were PACKED with Ravens, its really amazing. And yeah, both years there was a resounding "O" during the National Anthem. Too cool.

And yeah, any given sports bar down here is packed with every fan imaginable on Sundays. This state is a sports melting pot without a doubt.

I've seen both the Orioles and the Redskins (my two favorite pro teams) on the road, and I've never been received as warmly as I was in Miami as a visiting fan. Another time I was down there I went to a sports card show at Pro Player Stadium and I saw very little Marlins merchandise, but lots of stuff for most other MLB teams. The fact of the matter is that a lot of people move to Florida, and while they're happy to move out of the northeast where it's cold, they still root for their home teams. I wanted to go down there for the O's series next summer, but it's during the week and I have to save my vacation days for a trip to Europe.

You hit the nail on the head there, I'm one of many transplants down here. ;)

Well as I said I went down there to see the Terps, but while I'm sure a decent amount of the crowd lived in South Florida, there were a lot of people flying down for the game also. But when I watch games involving the Dolphins or Marlins on TV, normally at least half the crowd is rooting for the other team, especially if it's a popular team. We find the same issue in this region as well due to the number of transplants, but it's nowhere near as bad as Florida.

here is my redskins fan stories....

first, i got to the stadium a bit early to get some food and drink in me. i was sitting in my seat, and was probably the only one in the row at the time. a couple guys came in and had to walk past me. i had my drink sitting on the ground and i asked the guys to watch out for my drink. the first guy stepped over it but the second guy accidentally kicked it over. this was a drink from the ravens pub, so it was a bit pricey. the guy that booted it was very aplogetic and kept trying to give me money. it was an accident, so i didn't want to take his money. i was just happy that he offered. a few minutes later he leaves, then comes back with another drink. said he couldn't let that sit on his conscience for the whole game. it was later that i found out he was a redskins fan. now that's classy!

then there were 2 guys beside me that were skins fans. they cheered for their team, and people behind them were giving them a rough time, but nothing bad...all jokingly. they told me that this is nothing because they've gone to philly for a couple games before. said they always leave beer soaked. anyway, these guys stayed cool the whole game......the funny thing was during our "DEFENSE!" chants, they'd yell OFFENSE in between our yells. so i'm thinking to myself...ya know...we're doing this to make noise and make it hard for the skins to operate right now.....so if these cats want to add to that noise, by all means!

and finally, a bad example of skins fans. a young couple in front of me....and the guy was obviously lit by the time he came in. he did nothing but drop F-bombs and wave his arms around wildly, frequently clipping the older gentelman next to him. this guy even snuck in a vodka bottle to the game......security told him to calm down, and he got all moody about it. "what, i can't cheer for my team?" so he kept getting worse, and a guy a few seats down finally said something to him. a much, much larger guy. :) anyway, the guy calmed down for a bit, but then the girl kept saying things like "no, he's a F---ing a--hole! F-him!" yeah. nice..... anyway, he was so drunk that his comments were just funny at this point. "Get a safety!!!" when the ravens were on the 20 yard line. when called out he said "it's called negative yards, a-hole!" when we did our first down "move those chains" thing, he started doing a motion that i can only describe as picking up a pile of leaves and throwing them backwards over your head. everyone started laughing at him and he said "that mean NO first down! Bring it back!" so from there on out, whenver we got a first down, the fans behind this guy started doing that motion to make fun of him. so towards the end of the game, the skins were trying a last minute score and campbell was sacked. i looked at him and said "it's that what you mean by negative yards?" with a few minutes left, the skins couple made the right decision and left. we all clapped and enjoyed the victory.

anyway....thought they were some good and bad skins game stories.
