Is Justin Tucker the best kicker in the NFL?

69 posts in this topic

Why can't you start this thread either after the Ravens year has concluded, or after we are no longer in contention for a playoff spot??

This thread has the smell of JINX.

I'll say this, if Tucker is the bad man we think he is, no superstitions will stop his reign!

Walsh was #1 last year, but he hurt his hamstring this year, unfortunately. Only Prater is ob his level now. Tucker to the Pro Bowl!!!

Tucker has power, is accurate, is consistent and clutch.

On top of that he's just a cool cat.

Yes. We have the best kicker in the NFL on our team right now.

He certainly made his case for that tonight against Pittsburgh. Is it just me, or is it crazy that somebody like Tucker goes undrafted because he's just a kicker, even when he wins games like did tonight, but a guy like Jamarcus Russel goes number one overall?

Besides being funny and accurate he is clutch. But what impresses me the most is he is all about team. In his interviews when ask about a kick or anything relating to kicking, he always uses the plural "we" meaning himself, Morgan and Sam. To me that is very important to constantly be giving his cohorts praise when he gets it. So yes he is the best kicker in the NFL. (yes I am biased)

This.

Kid not only has it, but also just gets it.

A rare combination.

For him to be the best he has to stay consistent.   So far his been marvelous.

But the life of a kicker is a weird one.   Soon as one bad streak starts to happen, it tends to stick with them.   A La Billy Cundiff.

So Im a little weary of hyping the kicker from now on b/c of Billy.  So i'll just stay put and let Tucker do his thing until his contract is up.

I get that, the thing is Tucker has been clutch since college.  He had his dry spell against the Browns and then showed up ready to put in work since.  I have confidence he could be around for a while.

Ray Guy, a punter, was picked in the 1st round. One ofbthe best decisions Al Davis ever made.

He drafted Janikowski, Oakland's kicker, in the first round, too. Maybe kickers and punters like that don't come around often enough to be drafted that highly, but it's crazy how few punters and specifically how few kickers get drafted, considering how they can decide a game.

As we learned in the Iron Bowl, a team that shirks its kickers and specials teams play in general are extremely vulnerable on big games.

Did anyone point out that Tucker included Koch and Cox is his Madden award? He could not have won it without them and I thought it was classy, non-selfish to include them. Tucker is a 'good guy' too (obviously)!

Tucker has been fantastic. I don't know if that makes him the best kicker because there are some others having phenomenal years as well. Tucker has been super clutch though, kicking in difficult conditions to boot.

Glad to see Tucker is doing well for the Ravens! I'm even more glad to see him include Koch and Cox in the award as well. They know they are an important team and rely on one another.

I'm also glad I have him in my Dungeons & Dragons Fantasy Football league, even if I'm mathematically eliminated from the playoffs.

Not sure if he can be considered the best just yet, but if you've listened to any of his interviews he's never at a loss for words. My man Tuck definitely has the gift of gab.

Didn't the Raiders lose like nine games by a field goal the year before the drafted Janikowski? Something crazy like that.

Seriously, though. A kicker and punter can be such a weapon. It would be so comforting to know all you have to do is get the ball a little past midfield and your kicker can nail it. It would be awesome for a defense to know that they can pin their ears back and go for the sack on all defensive possessions because that punter pins the opposing team deep.

Special teams is a vastly overlooked part of the game, but it can be a serious game changer. Anyone remember the San Diego team that was ranked like first and second in all offensive and defensive categories, but missed out on the playoffs because of special teams? Something weird like that.

2010. That was a crazy year for San Diego. #1 offense in the NFL, #1 defense in the NFL, but they gave up four blocked punts, three kickoff returns for touchdowns, and one punt return for a touchdown on route to missing the playoffs.

That's what I thought.

People underestimate the importance that special teams plays.

Oh, misread the Tucker bit in your post. We agree on that one, he won't make it to the probowl. We are now playing some good football - if we can improve a little bit in the last quarter (cutting down on these stupid penalties would do wonders to begin with), I seriously think we have a legit shot at making it all the way, despite a rough schedule.

I have nothing wise to tell you about the possible Ravens-Saints SB.
