Is Justin Tucker the best kicker in the NFL?

69 posts in this topic

Had this debate with some coworkers the other night...

54/59 (91%)

8/9  (89%)  from 50+yds

So far in his career he has missed 5 field goals and continues to shine even in harsh weather. He makes big game changing kicks and has even tied Matt Stover's consecutive FGs with 22. I feel like he is probably the best kicker in the NFL due to his young age and talent mixed with consistency, and pressure defying swagger that allows him to make those game winning kicks. He should make it to the pro bowl this year too.

Stats could make the argument. Also the fact he made kicks all throughout the playoffs and Superbowl. But I'd be hesitant to put that label on a guy in his 2nd year. I'm just happy to have a kicker who looks primed to have a long career in the Black and Purple.

He doesn't have to be the best kicker in the NFL for me.

He's clutch and he just fits here. Plus, he's just fun lol

He is our kicker and I think he's awesome . we can vote him to the probowl  but he will be preparing to defeat the seahawks in the superbowl and won't make it

I think he has been the best this year, and he was one of the best last year. Good start to what hopefully will be a long Baltimore career.

I think Stover had 38 consecutive FGs but none the less, I would vote Tucker as the best kicker in the NFL today.

Tucker might actually be the best kicker in the league, in large part because he has the accuracy to go along with the big leg.  Hopefully this can continue and he's not a flash in the pan guy, it'd be really nice to have another long term solution like Stover was.  And paying the best kicker the money he's worth isn't that big a deal because they don't take up that much of the salary cap.

Definitely up there in the upper tier IMO. His rookie year was incredible. And this year he's probably been the best.

I saw a tweet today that said he and Jameel McClain were singing "Renegade" by Eminem & Jay Z in the locker room.

If anyone knows of that song just picture Tucker rapping Eminems part. Lmao

For him to be the best he has to stay consistent.   So far his been marvelous.

But the life of a kicker is a weird one.   Soon as one bad streak starts to happen, it tends to stick with them.   A La Billy Cundiff.

So Im a little weary of hyping the kicker from now on b/c of Billy.  So i'll just stay put and let Tucker do his thing until his contract is up.

Besides being funny and accurate he is clutch. But what impresses me the most is he is all about team. In his interviews when ask about a kick or anything relating to kicking, he always uses the plural "we" meaning himself, Morgan and Sam. To me that is very important to constantly be giving his cohorts praise when he gets it. So yes he is the best kicker in the NFL. (yes I am biased)

Someone on another thread made the point that he has to do the majority of his kicks outdoors and in poor conditions especially towards the end of the year and playoffs when he has to be clutch. Compare this to Walsh and Zuerlein who kick indoors and we really are onto a winner.

People underestimate the kicking conditions when comparing kickers/QBs all the time. To do what he's done/is doing, as an undrafted FA and in Baltimore, is amazing. Dudes a beast!

He's pretty darn close. I think I heard a stat that he has only missed twice in his career from 50+ yds. That 53 yarder into the wind last week was IMPRESSIVE..that thing would have gone through from 60 easily. He has all 3 phases down pat, he can kick deep on kickoffs as well as anyone and unlike a guy kike Cundiff, he still has the leg on field goals...AND is accurate. I can't think of anyone who is head and shoulders better than Tuckers so I guess its safe to say that hes right with any of the guys like Janikowski, Vinateri, Gould, Gostkowski ect..
