What Do You Think of Ray Lewis's Comments?

410 posts in this topic

Only because his mere presence makes them more money.

It's only making them more money if people tune into the show, correct? If Ray is that bad of a analyst, should hurt their ratings which will hurt their money, correct?

Tell ESPN that, obviously, they didn't feel that way! If he is not performing up to par, sure ESPN will deal with it, wouldn't you agree?

Have you seen espn for the last 10 years? Lol!

Then perhaps he should have waited til he could have performed on a more professional level? He should have stepped aside for a bit, if he has serious aspirations in broadcasting

And that has nothing to do with his seemingly anti-Ravens attitude, he just isn't very good at this.

I agree but then again Fly, ESPN didn't want him to step aside a bit!  they wanted him fresh off of his Super Bowl run and win with the Ravens while his mind was still fresh and the passion for the sport was still hot.  Nothing wrong that!  Now they have 2 QBs and a MLB on the show.  Two of which are former Ravens!  Awww!  To me...life is good and all is well in commentators land!  lol!

Not necessarily, because the majority of people that tune in to ESPN are mindless sheep who are just drawn to big names, and ESPN basically has the monopoly on sports news. If you want sports news on TV, you go to ESPN. People go "Oh hey, Ray Lewis is on ESPN, let's check that out." That's why it works. Big names = Big ratings. Simple!

Geez, all of this after speaking the truth about Flacco, lol. Many people on this forum feel the same way as Ray , are we all wrong including Ray and Ed b/c I'm sure Ed feels the same way about Flacco including many more former Ravens.

Who says it's the truth? Birk has an entirely different view. Or do we only value the opinion of the one who parrots our own opinion?

Let's be frank, that defense in 2012, the one that gave up the most points in a successful playoff run ever, wasn't carrying the man who threw 11 TDs and 0 INTs in the post season.

And that regular season defense, wasn't carrying anyone either.

He made the bus brawl somehow all about him being gone and now the Ravens' struggles are all about him not being here to help the defense bail the offense out. At some point you have to admit it is an ego trip to some extent.

You mean the way Skip Bayless kills ratings?

Actually, that's a pretty good comparison for what Ray is coming off as...

Agreed, I think NFLN is an example of this practice to an extreme.

Oh wow. Flacco gift wrapped Ray his second SB, and embarrassed Reed yesterday...I think they can both kiss Flacco$s rear end for carrying both of them to and through the SB.

Yep! Although NFLN is a bit better than ESPN. At least they don't rely on sensationalism. They do a great job of teaching and provoking discussion. Their only flaw is that their analysts are opinionated, which is fine by me as long as they can back it up. More time than not, they do have something to support their claims.

Part of what made Ray great WAS the ego. But, much more importantly than that, was the fact that he could back it up. He was the most dominant player in the league for a number of years and he let you know about it while he was blowing people up.

In my opinion, he's still got the swagger but as an analyst there isn't much "backing up" you can do. Once you step away from the game, it's time for the ego to cool down or you risk becoming a once-a-week clown like Michael Irvin, Cris Cater, Heath Evans (who doesn't even have a reason to be arrogant), Warren Sapp, etc.

Ray is my favorite player. But being a player and being an analyst are two very different things.

B!  I love watching Chris Carter, Michael Irvin and Warren Sapp.  what you feel makes them a "clown" is actually those guys personalities.  I'm glad everyone on these shows aren't so quiet, solemn, sober looking and acting all stiff-necked!  lighten up!  we're talking about a sport!  enjoy talking about it!  especially, if you played the game and was great at it like those cats and my main man "Neon" Deion "Primetime" Sanders.  I love how that cat analyzes and commentates.  especially when he says; "we showing you this play because either it is a big play or a boo-boo"  LOL!!!

And if this is the only thing he's done as an analyst, he's doing a bad job, because this is pathetic. Lol!

yeah its pathetic...if you only go by what cats in here are saying!  lol!

NFLN gets its credit from me for those midweek preview shows they do on games with Baldinger and Sharpe, sometimes Billick and another gets on it.

I may not like what they have to say at times, but when you're saying it with some type of backing, even if its cherry picked, its better than just spouting off nonsense.

Personally I don't like the NFLN analyst any more than the ESPN guys outside of Mayock and the guys that do the AFC/NFC playbook show.

Playbook by itself makes NFLN better than ESPN. At least they try to do something interesting.

Mili, if Ray isn't educating me and he isn't making me laugh.....why is he up there??

Btw, Deion and Irvin are my two favorites, they have so much personality. Ray seems like a bumbling fool compared to them(as a broadcaster).

Agreed. I wish a network would step up and do some serious in-depth analyst. Playbook is good though for fans newer to the game.

They're both my favorites too. Eisen isn't an analysis but I think everyone can agree that he's awesome. I actually like hearing from Ray more so than most of the other guys. It would probably be different if I wasn't a Baltimore boy though

As far as I'm concerned, it's been the defense giving up late points in most of our losses in Joes time here . Sure, Joe can throw up a few clunkers but he also has the stones to drive the team down the field in the waning minutes for a victory. Look at the Steelers series alone... how many times did the defense allow a rediculous play at the end of the game to cost us? The defense gave up 30 pts a game how many times in the playoffs last year? Joe and the offense answered the bell. How about when Flacco had the lead in NE only for the defense to allow Tom Brady to QB sneek for a TD? Or how about in Atlanta a few years back when the defense was allowing TDs at will and Joe brings us all the way back for the DEFENSE to allow a long TD pass to lose the game?

I actually saw Jamal on one of the sports shows a few weeks back and it was awesome.  I was hoping he would become a permanent fixture there.  we'll see!

Very good points. That Atlanta game pissed me off so much although the TD was totally offensive PI.

Deion and Irvin have been doing this for years...Ray is a rookie at this Fly!  Seems like everyone is forgetting that.  He's gonna bumble and stumble and even come across extremely passionate and say things as though he is still in the lockeroom.  lol!  I'm not surprised by any of this whatsoever.  It's to be expected imo.  I'm sure he'll get better and want to improve though!  And Deion is the man!  period!  lol!

well, if that is how "you" see them B.  but again, they don't bother me either!  lol!

It's early sunday morning, like 6:30 I think. Hoge and Jaws break down film. I think it is produced by Greg Cosell.

We had them in third and long if I remember correctly and the defense blew it. How about Jason Snelling running over Landry?
