What Do You Think of Ray Lewis's Comments?

410 posts in this topic

Ray Lewis has always loved the spotlight. Just look at his antics during the playoffs last year, it was vomit inducing seeing him bent over on his knees with 100 cameras around him.

The same thing up when he had to comment on the lack of leadership in the Ravens lockerroom, right after he left of course.

We all know he is just an analyst now, so take it with a grain of salt. You'd think he would be a little more appreciative of the guy who won him his second ring though.

Hes a year removed from the sport..... give it time man but when speaking about the Ravens being a year removed, how can he not make it about him?

The media's job is to inform and provoke discussion. Ray is in the media. He's doing a shoddy job as a member of the media, because the only discussion he's caused is debate over his ego.

But when Ray talks when he sits behind that desk, are you really learning anything new about the game?

Are you learning why certain blitz packages work better than others? Are you seeing why some teams prefer to stay in a base Cover 2 package for an entire game with different looks thrown in, regardless of situation? Are you understanding why some teams' script the first few plays on offense before opening up the playbook?

I want to learn more when I'm listening to an analyst.

Lets be real, are you learning anything new from any of the analyst, lol? It's a simple mans game,lol.... doesn't ake a rocket scientist to understand it. Either you have the talent or you don't and either you have the brains for it or you don't.

I suppose so. Worth noting though that his ego is the biggest of the holy trinity by far. Cal and Johnny U made headlines with their play, and never with words.

True, and not saying that I like anything to come out of Ray's mouth since his retirement

He has a ridiculous ego, for certain, we have always known that, but he strikes me as becoming a bit arrogant as well. Of course, when you are one third of the Baltimore holy trinity along with Ripken and Unitas, I guess you kinda earned that right

No offense to Cal but Brooks Robinson is the Orioles rep in the Baltimore holy trinity IMO, and I grew up with Cal.

We don't care that he speaks emotionally, just that he's making himself the story instead of writing the story. That's a big time media no no.

name a rookie analyst like Ray...or a veteran analysis that has never had that issue?  it happens!  they are human and have emotions and are passionate about certain things.  there are more serious things in life to be upset over than how Ray Lewis does sports commentary.  it's not that serious!  really it's not...at least to me!

The debate over his ego is b/c that's what y'all are making it. If Ray would have neva said that about Flacco, you guys wouldn't be trying to bash him now.

If Ray would have said Flacco is all god they would be saying how great of an analyst he is,lol. Ray spoke the truth and since Ray was a part of the Ravens he is a credible source to speak on things when it comes to the Ravens, best thing to do is try to bash him as an analyst.

I learn nothing new from them that I already don't know. I guess when the sport was created, yea, you can learn new stuff but we like a 100 years into the sport now, nothing new to be learned.

Depends on who you ask and how old you are, really. My dad maintains that Brooks is in the trinity and not Cal. I'm not old enough to make an informed decision either way lol

Wayne... because it's NOT all about him...  He makes it that way... and the other analysts don't help.

He is a year removed from the sport, give it time. Is other analyst a year removed from actually playing it?

Look I love Cal and all but I have never seen a nicer guy than Brooks Robinson.

Not taking anything away from Brooks. He is an icon in Baltimore, but what Cal did for Baltimore and baseball was incredible. Cal was also a local kid so that adds to his story.  I guess there is no wrong answer, but Cal would get my vote.

I am too young to remember Brooks though so it is probably generational.

In 93, as a little kid, I ran up to Brooks at the stadium with a sharpie and Orioles cap in hand when I saw him coming out of some booth. He flat out said, don't have time kid...so he is below Ripken, Palmer, Fred Lynn and Murray as my favorite Orioles...

I understand all of that Franchise.  but to be honest...when I want to know the "X' and O's" of the game, I don't get that from the Monday Night Countdown crew brah.  I get that solid information from other sources on television like AFC/NFC playbook or the Coaches Show and others for example.  Ray's style and approach to analyzing doesn't bother me like it does others.

Then perhaps he should have waited til he could have performed on a more professional level? He should have stepped aside for a bit, if he has serious aspirations in broadcasting

And that has nothing to do with his seemingly anti-Ravens attitude, he just isn't very good at this.

Tell ESPN that, obviously, they didn't feel that way! If he is not performing up to par, sure ESPN will deal with it, wouldn't you agree?

I don't know about that..........  I worshiped Brooks as a wee lad and he is the best 3rd baseman to ever play the game. Period. But IMO Cal's consecutive games record on top of his stellar play transcends any and all GOAT player. And there aren't many stories in sports better than the Ripken baseball trio. Kind of puts MD on the world sports map, you know?  My vote goes for Cal.

Geez, all of this after speaking the truth about Flacco, lol. Many people on this forum feel the same way as Ray , are we all wrong including Ray and Ed b/c I'm sure Ed feels the same way about Flacco including many more former Ravens.

Only because his mere presence makes them more money.

Part of what made Ray great WAS the ego. But, much more importantly than that, was the fact that he could back it up. He was the most dominant player in the league for a number of years and he let you know about it while he was blowing people up.

In my opinion, he's still got the swagger but as an analyst there isn't much "backing up" you can do. Once you step away from the game, it's time for the ego to cool down or you risk becoming a once-a-week clown like Michael Irvin, Cris Cater, Heath Evans (who doesn't even have a reason to be arrogant), Warren Sapp, etc.

Ray is my favorite player. But being a player and being an analyst are two very different things.

While I don't think Ray is Jerry Rice bad as an analyst, I do wish he would stop talking as if the team is still his team.

And if this is the only thing he's done as an analyst, he's doing a bad job, because this is pathetic. Lol!
