Chances Jacoby Jones is back next year?

384 posts in this topic

We certainly don't need to keep him at his current price tag. You think he will come back for less?

I think he will.  I'm guessing $2-2.5M annually for 2 or 3 years.  Just my guess.  I honestly don't see him getting a significant offer on the open market.

Not that good. It's not like we have tons of cap space and we do have some pretty big contracts coming up.

I think Eugene Monroe will be the biggest signing of 2014 for the Ravens (and the Ravens will absolutely want to sign him). Followed by Dennis Pitta, James Ihedigbo, Arthur Jones and Corey Graham. I wouldn't be surprised, if the Ravens will made an attempt of signing Torrey and Jimmy Smith in the next offseason also, eventhough their contracts will run for another season.

Jacoby just isn't a top priority, when compared to those players, imho. I still think, that we can upgrade from Jacoby in the next draft and that Brown, Mellette and Doss make him expandable.

Yes, we do. You can't win without weapons. All the hope in the world that Doss, Thompson, or even Marlon Brown will turn into star players does absolutely nothing when the reality is that it hasn't happened yet. You've seen the improvement in the offense without Jacoby versus the offense with him completely healthy, and it's not even close. Unless you're drafting a receiver in the first round or trading for a proven name in the offseason, this offense can't afford to lose Jacoby Jones.

I just don't get how people think that a rookie with 29 career catches, another rookie who's never played a regular season game, and a third-year receiver with only 25 career catches who regularly makes mental mistakes that cost the team (yes, I'm talking about Tandon Doss) make our best big-play threat (yes, I'm talking about Jacoby Jones) expendable.

I tend to think we do draft a receiver, and I highly doubt Jones comes back. The cap next year is tight and he is definitely after Monroe and Pitta in the pecking order. Maybe if we can't re-sign those two Jacoby is signed instead.

Jacoby has played in 8 games this season. The offense hasn't been any better or worse because of him. He is primarily a deep threat in our offense, and he only plays about 50% of the snaps at WR, averaging 3 catches and 40 yards per game. That's hardly worth the price he is being paid. If he comes back cheap so be it, I just dont see it happening.

Doss may have cost us a game when he fumbled a PR, but he has also had a big hand in winning a couple games too. I dont know if he comes back either, but he has proven to be capable in that role.

I just watched the Joe Flacco Sound FX from last week and after his TD to Jones, Flacco goes "he actually caught the ball with his hands"...I think i almost fell out of my seat laughing.

Don't know what the "right price" is or will be, but I hope they find it.  Starting over every year isn't the answer. Before you know it we'll be sitting here in Joe's 14th season saying "if he only had the same group for more than a year or two".

Saw the same but didn't break out in laughter, just a smirk. I had the thought that Joe is excited that Jacoby has improved and is on the field with him.

Pretty cool to see a 7th year receiver develop into something most thought he couldn't be, an everyday dependable receiving threat.

You weren't the only one laughing at that.

JJ is second in total yards, behind Smith.  Any one who doesn't feel he is very underpaid is just wrong. 900 total yards, Smith has 952. What is causing all the confusion. RR has less than 800.

This is with him having missed 4 games after being injured by a team mate.

Return yards? You must be joking.

It's a little unfair to count all-purpose yards in comparison to guys that don't return kicks, but you still have a point about his added value in the return game. Tandon Doss' one return in Houston doesn't put him equal to a guy with seven career return touchdowns, and Thompson's few flashes in the return game are even further down the line. Jacoby Jones cannot be replaced by anybody else currently on this team. That doesn't mean we'll necessarily be able to afford to keep him, but it does mean that we'll be losing something very valuable if we can't.

Special Teams plays are the most important.  The largest transfers of yardage occur on Special Teams.

Yards are yards, nothing is unfair. It is a fact. It is called field position. Look it up !!

I feel Jacoby will be here till he retires for some reason.  He loves being a Raven. They gave him a chance and he proved himself in the playoffs and again after injury. I mean come on he has a tattoo of the Ravens logo on his back! I feel he doesn't care too much about money. We sign Pitta, Monroe, and Jones next year.

I guess Doss is the most valuable player in the league because he leads the league in yards/ punt return.

I would love to have him back. Him and Joe are starting to get on same page. Flacco doesn't seem to be one of the QBs that you can plug any receiver in there and he will have immediate rapport. Him and Brown are getting there but a lot of miscommunication still.

Huge mistake dumping Boldin, lets hope Ozzie learned his lesson and keeps super play maker Jacoby. Ozzie, don't be dumb and get rid of JJ after the season.

I think Jacoby likes being a Raven and Ozzie knows his value to this team. I hope he doesn't walk. JJ is only getting better.

Jones costs half the price of Boldin, and is arguably the best kick/punt returner in football. Not to mention his big play ability.

He's invaluable to this team.

To anyone that says that Jones wants to retire here: Boldin said he would retire if we traded him, look how that worked out. I understand Jacoby loves being here, and has a tattoo and all, but its still whats best for him. If someone offers him more, he's gone. I want him to stay too, and hope he does, for the right price.

To be fair, Boldin said he'd retire if he was released. It's a little different since he was traded. It would be kind of a jerk move to retire after a team trades for you. Not that he necessarily would have retired, but at least you can give him more of a benefit of the doubt.

Oh really? I didn't know that. I thought he meant he would retire in general. My bad

I would love to see Jacoby stay, although it would have to be for the right price. I'd be willing to pay him for what he is, and maybe slightly more, but if a team wants to give him big money... no way. Personally I think he is a little underutilized on in our offense. He has done some great stuff underneath when given the chance, and he always brings the deep threat. The biggest issue we have is the lack of a Boldin type receiver. No one can just go up and get the ball. That is where both Jacoby and Torrey are bad. Pitta's return should help that, but we really need a receiver that can do that too.

After the way that Minnesota game ended, and that should be back to back weeks with kickoffs returned for touchdowns, it's just going to be harder and harder to let him go.

The guy is a lifeline.  When you think you're out of it, get the ball to Jacoby.  I don't know if we can afford him, but it's not so easy to let him walk.  Discussions have to at least take place.

It's going to be harder to keep him actually.
