Chances Jacoby Jones is back next year?

384 posts in this topic

Despite his shortcomings, Dragonfly is a TD waiting to happen whenever he steps on the field.

That's clearly the most accurate statement I've read in this thread.

He is unquestionably a TD waiting to happen on a team that lacks offensive consistency.

He compliments Joe Flacco's skill set and if you watch him he really is our only receiver that can create instantaneous separation with his ethereal moves. He can literally disappear on a corner.

Does our Front Office appreciate what Jacoby Jones brings to the team? Probably not, they seem pig headed over those they haven't drafted. And pig headed on many they do draft.

Forgot Oher.    Guess who else...Diggs.   We need some cap!

we might not resign James Ihedigbo, we might move Matt Elam over to his normal position at Strong Safety and draft a Free Safety

I think we should bring in Kenny Britt next off season. The titans are doing us a huge favor this season by refusing to give him playing time.He only has like 8 catches and 67 yards. That's crazy for someone with his talent.I think he could be had for about a $2.5 - 3.5 mil one year contract which would be a bargain.

2.5 - 3.5 mil for Kenny Britt? That's highway robbery. He isn't enough of an impact player to start for his current team, so why pay that kind of momey for him?

I could see the team kicking his wheels, but I think his time as an effective WR is done. Britt = Manningham

Well, he did get a Ravens tattoo and said he wants to retire here. You never know.

I believe he also said he'd take a discount because he loves it here so much.  I could honestly see him getting a 2 year, $4-5M deal to stay.  I believe it could happen pretty quickly as well.

I agree.  Britt is probably looking at getting the vet minimum, maybe $1-1.5M at most if some team still believes in him.

I say let Jacoby walk unless he signs for about vet minimum or $1mil for at most 2 years. He'll be moving out of his prime and his speed (which is the main component of his game) will decline. The Ravens can draft another speedster in the 2nd or 3rd rounds to complement Torrey, and Marlon can develop into a the possession receiver/Red-zone threat we desperately need. Add Pitta, and our receiving core is

unreal

So when exactly will Jacoby's speed decline? 2 years after we don't resign him? That's three good football years for another team when we could have kept him. Jacoby is in his prime. You want to keep relatively inexpensive players when they play up to their potential. The Ravens are getting exactly what they expected from JJones.

Keep Jones if you draft a WR, because a drafted WR will be cheaper in general and cheaper as far as the cap hit.

This sounds about right. His role is clearly defined here as well. He and the team know wht is expected of him.

Yeah. He seems to really like it here. I remember going to a signing after the Super Bowl and he was hilarious in person. He seemed like he genuinely enjoyed the company of the fans.

Judging by today, I honestly think he'll be back. The offense is much more dynamic with him in it. I could be wrong, but I just have a feeling we'll be seeing more of Jacoby.

1) Doss is fine as a PR/4th WR and he won't cost nearly as much.

2) If Jones wants to come back for cheap so be it, but hr is currently making way too much money for his role. You think he will take a significant paycut?

BTW, Torrey Smith has turned out pretty well in case you forgot about him.

1) Where was Doss? LOL

2) Do you wish to revisit this comment?

There are many WRs on this roster that I like and want to see get playing time, but Jacoby is now one of them. He's caught the ball much better as of late and he's quite the character. Somebody will want to pay him in FA (giving us a nice comp pick) but other than that, I'd be happy to have him on the roster.

I still don't see him returning , he will want to get paid and ravens have bigger needs to resign next year - art Jones , pitta ( hopefully small / minimum deal since injury) , monroe, oher (hopefully not), etc

I think that this is the right place for him. He had a tough start to the season, but he has shown significant improvement as a receiver.

In the NY Jets game, Doss wave off 2 punt returns that should have been returned. Harbaugh yanked him out and put Jones in for the rest of the punt return position. JJ caught the ball and ran with it. So no, we can't get rid of Jones.

Not really. Jones is 5M against the cap this year, his performance while good as of late, hasn't come close to warranting that.

FWIW Doss leads the league in YPR, but feel free to ignore the facts per usual.

Yeah, when you fair catch or dont catch 90% of the punts, I guess leading the league in YPR is easy. Kidding...just dont like Doss. Ha!

Not a blind hater, just a frustrated supporter. I had hoped he had turned the corner, but it's not just one bad game, he's dropped numerous passes and is a fumble concern every time he touches the ball. He makes bad decisions and just doesn't have good "football sense". There are reasons he went unsigned for almost two months after we released him. Tandon was resigned because we were in a bind and he has contributed as an emergency fill in. But just like David Reed he can't be trusted and I doubt that he is on next year's roster.

In my opinion  I think Doss has done well for the ravens. He contributed as a emergency fill in and became one of the best punt returner also made  some nice catches at times on third downs.  Doss has indeed  made some mistakes but no body perfect even a veteran player like Jacoby Jones made a mistake especially in the playoffs against us when he was a Texan.

When you said "He makes bad decisions and just doesn't have a good "football sense"  its kinda crazy  because this is the exact same thing ravens/texans fans were saying about Jacoby Jones. I think if the ravens coaches felt like Doss couldn't be trusted at all then he wouldn't  be activated  during games and since Deonte Thompson probably can do the same thing as Doss it must means they see Doss as one of the best players to help them win games.

It's hilarious that people drone on and on about how Flacco needs more weapons, they don't have enough receivers.... and this is WITH Jacoby currently on the team.

And yet, people are saying he's replaceable.... they don't need him, and he's not that important.

They need Jacoby Jones more than they need Dennis Pitta back.

bottom line is, Jacoby Jones was the real MVP of the Super Bowl and he'd probably have better numbers than Torrey Smith by a large margin this year if he wasn't taken out by his own player in the first game of the season.

The guy is a good receiver, but nobody knew it because Matt Schaub was absolutely terrible in Houston.  He's been able to showcase more of his talents than kick returning here in Baltimore because Flacco is better than Scaub.

You have to pay someone besides Flacco.  If Jacoby Jones isn't back, the Ravens better have something better planned than bringing in another Brandon Stokely like they replaced Boldin with.

Jacoby was the Real MVP?

So those other 2 touchdowns and 219 didn't count.

Oh wait it's ed reed from the U.

It's not implausible that he and Joe could have been considered co MVPs. The QB will always win a tie with this type of award.

Jacoby would have been second, but he just didn't have that kind of production.

Absolutely terrible? Schaub was good for a while. He lost his confidence this year but had a number of good ones prior.

Jacoby Jones has some drop problems, can get beat out for the ball, and hasn't proven to be a good YAC runner (despite return-man prowess). What he can do is get open deep and that's where he's useful. But in a year or so, or maybe even now, Deonte Thompson or Tandon Doss could fill that role at a much slimmer price.

One of the few bright spots on this offense and Im not one of the ones that thinks Flacco can pull a Manning or Brady and make any WR look good. Please retain this guy!

It's about the money - if he comes back for an acceptable price, that's fine, but supposing some team throws a bunch of money at him in free agency and we can't match it?  He's a number 3 WR and return guy, when we have several other players we need to pay - Monroe and Pitta come to mind on the offense alone.  Nobody expected Paul Kruger or Dannell Ellerbe to get the kind of money they got with basically one year of production each - but someone threw the money at them.  It wouldn't surprise me at all if the same thing happened to Jacoby.

Not sure how some can't see the improvement in Jacoby's game and determination. He's obviously worked very hard at improving his skills and it's starting to pay off. If not now, by season's end it will be plainly apparent that we need to keep him. But as is always the case, there's a chance someone else pays him more than we are willing to. I hope that doesn't happen because it seems that he's developing a special connection with Flacco.

We certainly don't need to keep him at his current price tag. You think he will come back for less?
