Chances Jacoby Jones is back next year?

I think that the CBA has affected our team immensely...  Guys like Jacoby, Torrey, and Joe have been affected vastly...  Limited practices are just one example...  Those hinder ability to work freely with other players.

You are absolutely correct.  I think too, that we aren't the only team doing it.  Since the CBA and the new cap rules, it makes things so much harder to manage where the players are concerned.  You hear more and more of it.

I see what you mean.  I just know how I'd feel if my employer expected or asked me to take a "cut" in my pay.  So, I don't blame these cats for leaving Baltimore for more money.  This is what "business" is all about!

It's funny you mentioned that.  My hubby and I were talking about that tonight... and I said that I would take the cut right now, because jobs are hard to find, and I wouldn't want to be unemployed.  You gotta be good to be in demand...  ;)   Funny though, the NFL is a little different business...  and these guys that ARE good are always in demand... and paid very well...  enough that they might COULD afford the pay cut...  LOL

I don't know for sure, but I get the sense that Harbaugh is one of those "you play as you practice because you practice as you play" types who only feels absolutely confident about something or someone if he's seen it / them work in practice first. And if he hasn't then he's very reluctant to try it / them, even if it makes sense. If that's true, then this CBA really hurts us.

Don't mess with the love.

Just watched a replay of the big game vs the Lions. On 3rd and 15 Flacco threw a high bullet that only he can throw. It was intended for Jacoby Jones, who had made himself open again. It as high and sailing. It was coming with extreme velocity. Jones went up and snagged it. It set the Ravens up for the Game winning field goal. This was after an outstanding Kick Return by Jones as well.

Jacoby returned to the huddle with a determined sneer on his face. He stalked his way quickly into the huddle. Flacco greeted Jones return with a head to head butt. It was respect, appreciation and love without a single word exchanged.

When this season is over, this front office better not tamper with this chemistry. They better have learned their lesson.

After such a horrible season, this provided some very joyful mental imagery...thank you!

That was such a great throw and nice catch too.

2 years ago I hated that we signed him. I thought he would be a drain on offense and we'd waste pass attempts throwing to him. Jacoby hasn't been incredible but I'm starting to think I don't want him gone. He exceeded my expectations. He's still a capable player (and good return guy). If we can afford to keep him, we should. We can't risk another setback with this group of WRs.

I think he wants to stay, I just think he's setting himself up for in case they let him go.  "a little self-protection" if you will.

So Jacoby was back in his hometown of New Orleans at a NBA game and the reporter asked him about him being a free agent. He responded by saying that he would love to return to Baltimore.... BUT it's a business.

Absolutely!  These guys no what time it is!  Do your job to the best of your ability and then; look out for your own best interest cause at the end of the day...The Ravens organization will do just that!  It's a business!  Treat it as such!

And that is what I have said in the past Gene.  The Ravens are going to always do what is best for them regardless of a players interest.  So, these players need to look out for themselves and their families.  I hope he stays...but if he bounces....I understand.  It's a business!

I hope they find a way to bring him back - he'll just be 30 this year, has a good rapport with Joe, and brings several dimensions to this football team.  If the price is right, I'd say he's the second most irreplaceable free agent behind Monroe.  As good as Daryl Smith and Dennis Pitta have been and will continue to be, Jacoby brings something we just can't anywhere else.

Anything Jacoby do as a receiver is something we can get by anyone.

The money for his KR game doesn't warrant what he gets paid.   It's a sad goodbye to  dragonfly.

Thanks for the memories odd one!

Not sure that Jacoby is as valuable to the Team as Smith and Pitta, but I agree that he is an important piece moving forward. For all all of the knocks on his receiving skills he has been working hard to improve and I believe he would have contributed much more had he not gone down in game one. And it goes without saying that he his one of the most exciting players in the game today.

Dragonfly is a Raven through and through........He plays with passion and brings some heart to the squad. I hope we find a way to keep him.

What I meant was he's not a starter and they are, so obviously you should pay more to keep them around - but you can find ILBs in the draft, and there are good TEs in the draft.  You don't just find a returner of Jacoby's caliber every day - which to me means he'd be harder to replace.  Obviously the smart move, if all 3 are asking for a contract that's about equal, respective to their values (i.e. Daryl Smith wants a starting ILB contract while Jones asks for number 3 money), is to lock up the starters and then hope for Jones, but I'm saying I'd consider signing him first depending on the asking price of the 3.  I could easily see Pitta and his agent start negotiations around top 5 TE salary, and in the interim I might just decide to sign Jones if the value is right rather than risk losing both.

If they don't resign him it will be consistent with their recent philosophy that they can "plug guys in".  It will be because they believe they can predict the year when skills diminish.

His contribution would be huge if the Raven's could properly use the play action pass.  He can get behind people, especially when they stare into the backfield for too long.

He really is our one receiver that has the moves to gain separation at the line of scrimmage or at any time.  Our other guys don't have that.

The Front Office gets credit for signing him. We don't win the Championship in 2012 without Jacoby Jones, but the belief here is that consistent with their recent errors the Front Office will say goodbye.

One could make an argument that he won 3 games for us this year.  That and his still palpable potential won't matter.  Because this fan wants this Front Office replaced, he'd be closer to it if they don't resign Jacoby Jones.

Understood.  I hope it works out that all 3 stay as they are valuable members of the Team and fit the mold as Ravens.

I agree with the sentiment that, if another team is willing to pay him WR2 money, he will be gone. We don't view him as that and I think rightly so. His value is in stretching the field as a WR3 and returning punts/kickoffs. I just don't think the FO is planning on paying him as much as what I think another team will offer.

I'd love to see him stay, but I just don't think it is going to work out.

I hope they find a way to keep him.  I think he could be as dynamic on offense as he is on kick returns if the coaches used him properly.  He just has a knack for finding holes and spinning out of tackles.

He will be gone next year, dont think they want to pay anything over 5mil a year for a WRer....

especially a #3 who is best known for getting hit with a bottle on a party Bus

Jacoby is not even worth half that.

That's probably true... His hands and route running are both so so... You don't pay that much for a mediocre WR who happens to be a good return man
