Hypothetical Jobs question / football related. Leave your team.

20 posts in this topic

Okay I have read enough threads about Ed Reed and other players leaving Baltimore to play else where for more often than not SIGNIFICANTLY more money.

I for one can not and would not blame them.

Here is my hypothetical question.

Would you accept a job working for another football team.  You would have to relocate. You would be committed to be at each and every game, home and away, so you will likely miss most Ravens games. You would have to wear team colors at every game, fulfilling your duties during a normal work week and the occasional public event.

Your pay would be $1,000.000.00 per year.

Would you do the same for Pittsburgh for $2,000,000.00 ?

( I will assume no one here is currently making more than $1,000,000.00 per year, if so adjust the pay accordingly and can I be your friend ? )

Well, I am probably outside the norm, but just so I understand the question.

I can remain with my team for $1M? or go to the Steelers for $2M?

Yeah, I'd remain with my team but then, you know, I'd be fine for life on $1M lol

No, your team has not made you an offer.

If they did it would be like $35,000.00

I'd do it for a year or two then try to get traded to a less detestable team.

exactly! These guys have a window of 10 yrs to make as much money as possible because they may retire at 35 they need joint replacement surgery at 45 and are in a lot of pain. What brought this home to me was reading the article about Deirdorff retiring because he physically can't travel-- has artificial hips and a knee and he is only 64! Players in his era did not make the Ray Lewis bucks.

Look at Ed Reed, he is one hit away from permanent neuro damage-- so I can't blame him.

Okay.

Well, I could definitely go to an NFC team for $1M. Not worried about missing Ravens games because that is why we have DVR! lol

I would never go to the Steelers. I don't think you can understand my complete hatred of them unless you've also lived in Steeler country for over a decade lol

Just to be clear, I said I would go to the Steelers for $2 million. I didn't say I would do a good job for them.

Thats the spirit :)

A couple of years ago, a former Patriots offensive lineman, who was a college friend of our vice-principal's brother, came to our school for a motivational talk with the students.  We got to meet him and see one of his Super Bowl rings.  Anyway, he had told the vp that before he retired and had surgery, he couldn't raise his arms much higher than his mid-section and couldn't even play catch with his kids, such was the pain.  These players get so banged up.

For the original question:  pay me $2 mil per year, I'll represent the Browns!!

I would grind it out with my team for a few years. Wait until I'm in my prime and be a bandwagon steelers/patriots fan for about 3.5 million a year for a couple years and then retire.... Of course ask for that 1 day contract from Baltimore.

If I root for the Miami Heat would there be a bonus of lets say, 25k? Because I would. :)

Depends on the job. I'd love to be a staff writer or a PR guy for some team, that'd be cool with me, if I wasn't coaching up the line. Haha.

Yeah, I think I would.

For $2 million dollars a year I'd let them give me a Steelers themed neck tattoo and let Big Ben do inappropriate things to me.  They can't change my loyalties, and that money would be really nice.
