Gary Kubiak for OC?

67 posts in this topic

With the Texans losing to the Jags today, look for him to be fired at the end of the season. If he is indeed fired, would you be willing to bring him in as our OC? In my opinion, he isn't a good head coach, but he is a pretty creative OC. Or would you stay with Caldwell as our Offensive Coordinator?

His w/ the shannahan tree. We'll have to completely revamp our offense.

"Revamp" is a major risk/reward. But living in houston, the fans absolutely loathe him and you will too. kubiak is not the right guy to help us. He only know one way to work the offense. Can't adjust even if it cost him his life.

Which is one thing I really appreciate about Jim Caldwell: he has shown that he understands when something is not working, and he makes an effort to fix it, even if it means significantly modifying the scheme. For instance, implementing the use of the pistol, or attempting to spread things out with three and four receiver sets. These are new wrinkles he's added to the offense.

Caldwell made adjustments today. Only those adjustments really messed us up because we were constantly running the wild cat. Number one, you can't constantly do the same trick plays over and over again. Eventually, even the worst D's will figure it out and stop the plays. Number two, Tyrod is a QB, not an RB who cannot pass. Why not mix things up with him in that package. Why not have him throw it deep to keep the defense honest instead of constantly using him in screens/runs??

We don't need another Cameron, that's for sure. It just seems Caldwell is in over his head. I get that our line is horrible, but that wildcat junk was downright terrible. Good thing we were playing the Jets, a team who is so streaky on offense that it makes our offense look beastly. So what do you propose that we do??

He can be our quarterback coach but I don't think he should be our offensive coordinator. I think  Jim Caldwell is doing fine and yes theres a lot he needs to improve on but give him time. One main reason why gary kubiak wont fit is because he likes the zone blocking scheme which doesn't work with our offensive line

I'm a Caldwell fan. I think we stick with him. He's a good OC. Room for improvement, but he's pretty good.

The wildcat junk today is inexcusable. We're lucky it was the Jets, and not a team with a good offense.

I liked seeing the option plays. The read option and triple option aren't gimmicks. They are legitimate plays and they can serve as a part of a legitimate NFL offense. What I don't like is all the reverses to Tyrod and throwing to Tyrod. Those are stupid gimmicks.

Tyrod actually moved the ball in the first half. It wasn't until the second half that the Jets defense actually became wise to our game.

And if anyone's gonna throw a deep ball, it had better be Joe. But I see your point. A few more throws would've kept them honest while Tyrod was in the game.

I think you are right that we might need to look for a new OC. Nothing wrong w/ looking. Im sure our FO has few names they already have in mind to do some research in the offseason.

Caldwell's play calling got the Ravens to and won the Super Bowl.

On Cam Cameron's playbook.

When someone has a TIA or mini stroke, it may be his bodies way of telling him to slow down and maybe get out of coaching.

Kubiak= no  You guys think that we should give up our offensive coordinator that called the plays to Joe's tremendous post season and a Super Bowl win?  Are you kidding me?

I think you need to cut Caldwell some slack, just like everybody does for Joe (and for good reason, btw). His playcalling suffers just as much from a lack of talent and depth around Joe, just like Joe's play does. I still believe in Jim, but I wouldn't mind see us getting a QB coach to let Caldwell concentrate on the playbook and the playcalling, while somebody else takes care of Joe's QB play.

Joe's most consistent and productive season was still the one with Jim Zorn as our QB coach and I still consider him being let go as one of the big mistakes we ever made.

more often than not that will bite you in the rear.

can't have both, need one or the other. They feed off of each other. Aggressive defense to get the ball back, methodical offense to keep TOP advantage. Aggressive offense to put up a bunch of points, bend but don't break offense to keep teams from scoring touch downs.

Both are aggressive, turn overs and getting burnt. Also other teams get too many possessions to figure you out.

Nooooooooo. I don't mind Caldwell, but I don't like him coaching from the press box. It's too removed in my opinion, he should be mingling with the players and what not. If he left in the off season, I'd prefer to see a young mind, maybe a college guy, to grow with Flacco calling plays for the next 5 years.

exactly.

Just watch Peyton against an aggressive D.
Our D was pretty aggressive in the playoff game when he was with Indy and he killed us.
I think we won on field goals too.   I could be wrong.

If your talking about that game on 06' with Mcnair then yea our offense wet the bed that game. I think Peyton beat us with 5 fgs.

In my opinion I thought Joe Flacco had such a consistent and productive season in 2010 (during the time Jim Zorn was qb coach)  because Flacco had 4 former pro bowl receiver to pass to  in  Mason, Housmanzdeh, Boldin and Heap( I guess you can add ray rice to that to).

I could be wrong but the ravens can always bring Jim Zorn back but I doubt it happens

I think the ravens just may may need to focus on getting a new quarterback coach and maybe a new  widereceiver coach
