The official melt thread - Jets version

That is true about the wind. But still Torrey was wide open and Joe was looking his direction, how does he not see him. And he has something against throwing the ball away instead of taking a sack.

i too would have thrown to torrey, maybe he thought brown could be. A bigger gain if he ran the out route it looked like he should have.

Regards throwing the ball away, you can't do that inside the pocket. And if you try to complete risky passes, you get stupid interceptions. They way he's turned the ball over this year, I'm happy with him holding it taking a sack.

Getting Tyrod in the mix helped us sometimes, but often cost us momentum also. Why would you let Tyrod take a snap after Joe's bomb to Torrey? I dunno, what those gimmick plays are suppossed to amount to, but you can't let them dominate playcalling like this. Seems like we still don't know what we're doing on offense most of the times. -_-

The gimmick was fine for one play, but after that it completely ruined the flow of the game and blew any chance of gaining rhythm. Kind of amazing that Joe and the O did as well as they did.

If our O-line didn't regress this much from last week (yes, Jets D is better than Chicago's but still), this thread would have been redundant. That and maybe too much gadget playcalls I did not like.

I don't mind the gadget play calls tbh. I think we needed to get a bit cute to help move the chains against that Jets defence. I hope we have a few more plays held back for Thanksgiving.

I like Tyrod as an x-factor guy who can come on a few times and move the chains a bit. I think we got a bit predictable with him towards the end, but I'd rather have him create a wrinkle in the running game than have another run up the middle.

It's a short week, and we established it as a legitimate part of our running offense, so Pitt is forced to prepare for it. I'm all for shopping Tyrod as well.

brown ran the wrong route by the looks of things. He was better than his stat line indicated, did you see how windy it was?

It still look like to me that Flacco had enough time to make a better decision but hey I'm not offensive coordinator or Quarterback.

Agreed. The only way that you can keep the #1 run defense off balance is to mix it up. The Jets tried a lot of gadget plays as well against us. It was chess. The offensive line didn't regress they produced 150+ against the #30 run defense and about 70 yds against #1.  We did what was necessary to win. That's all that matters.

@Inqui & @jkm5bmore

I don't think some of those were timed well - Joe might have got pretty hot on couple of drives if he was under center and not out of the game out wide. especially on the snap after that bomb to Torrey.

I don't get our defense sometimes. I mean when we are at home, in my eye's we are the BEST DEFENSE IN THE LEAGUE. But when we are on the road we are average at best. I thought the saying was suppose to be "Defense Travels". Is it the players not being ready or is it Pees not being as aggressive on the road as he is at home. Ray embraced being the bad guy on the road and the team fed off of that. But this year something is missing when we're on the road.

Also Flacco's numbers in this game looked ok, but watching the game, he was all that good. Who was he throwing too on that interception? I mean Torrey was Wide Open.

Defense just looks like a different monster at home.  The pass rush was ferocious and the run d held up well too.  I saw Torrey wide open too and have no idea what the hell he was thinking.  If the offense could manage more points when the defense is holding this can be a very dangerous team.

Either it was a busted play or horrible throw....either way, decision making wasn't the question

I don't understand the sudden use of Tyrod and wildcat. Also why are we putting our 120milion$ man at WR 3 seconds after a beautiful 60yard bomb.

Here's the answer:

Harbaugh said Flacco's INT came as a result of a route that wasn't run correctly by Marlon Brown

I'd like to think of it as taking away plays from a terrible running game - Tyrod only attempted 1 pass.

Your boy looked pretty quick out there today, Mili! The Jets weren't ready for sure and he converted some first downs that I know our regular run game would have not!

yeah B!  Tyrod played alright!  he needs a few more touches like that to really get in a rhythm for the offense coming off that bench.  lol!  he had a low throw to Dickson and I hated the read option "keeper" choice he made for a loss because then Joe had to come back in and deal with 3rd&12.  but he does bring another element to the offense that other teams aren't use to the Ravens implementing.

I don't have much to complain about. The defense was phenomenal. Wish we had a few more sacks. The offense could have a little improvement. I think the offensive line faired pretty well considering they were up against the Jets D. Other than a stupid interception I don't think the offense did too much wrong on the field. Very fun game to watch, and it was nice to win a game by more than 3 points.

I need a summary please. Who played great, good, average and bad?

Great - Corey Graham, Jacoby Jones, Daryl Smith, Ed Dickson (surprisingly), Justin Tucker, Torry Smith.
Good - everyone else on defense. Flacco, Dallas Clark, Stokely, Tyrod Taylor, Koch
Average - Marlon Brown (misran a route, not often a target, but did put down a nice block or two), the offensive line.
Bad - Tandon Doss (let things bounce instead of returning, wasnt sure handed on offense), and the running game (as usual).

Also bad: The NY Jets offensive unit -- this was by far the biggest contributor of the day. They never got going.

I wouldn't say Stokley had a good game. He had 1 catch. Same with Torrey: 2 catches and 1 drop. And Dickson had 3 open catches and (I believe) two drops. He also had a nice defense on a potential INT, although at his size he should've had position on the ball in the first place.

I would say Jacoby, Corey, Daryl and Jimmy Smith, Webb, and Flacco had great games. Most of the defense had a good game, as well as Monroe and Yanda. Everyone else would be average, except possibly A.Q. (bad) because of some costly penalties.

Dickson had nice YAC on his catches, and got us first downs. To be honest I had such low expectations of him after the first ten games that anything he does that's solid I consider great.

Overall, the read option worked out pretty well for us.  Tyrod had one long run, and one conversion on third and short, along with that one poor run you mentioned that went for a big loss and set up third and long.  When he handed it off, the backs at least seemed to gain a yard or two each time, which is certainly no worse than they do on standard runs.  The throw was a little off, but it was open and should have worked, so I wasn't too discouraged by that.  The plays I hated were the end arounds (or fake end arounds) that always seemed to be drive killers resulting in big negative plays.  Those have to go.  I wouldn't mind using the read option with Taylor for an entire series if the offense is stuck in the mud and we need to get things going.  I'm not so crazy about mixing it in like we did after big plays and stunting momentum.

Omg we need Ed Reed, bring back Ed Reed!! *rolls eyes*

Bring him back as much as possible, on the opposing team.  Our two biggest wins this season were against him.  He still hasn't won a game he's played in this year.

I just loved our D today. Amazing.

The offense didn't play well again. At least Caldwell tried to do some new different things. They might have not worked but at least he's aware that we need to be playing at a much higher level offensively. Hopefully things will get better when Pitta returns.

It was a different form of a run game.   Considering how many times our RBs gets stuffed on backfield even before we could gain a positive yard....putting a QB(advantage b/c they can't attk him like traditional RB) as a RB helps us on gaining short yards.

Seems like it worked pretty damn well imo.

The joe flacco as a wideout thing was just to eat a secondary spot.   He wasn't going to run if they covered him, which is what they did.  So it looked a little silly for him to sit still for 4 snaps.

I think if Joe didn't had a secondary cover him, he probably would've tried running it.   This happened one time last year and we gained 40 yards from Flacco as a WR.   But only b/c someone didnt respect him to cover him.

Oh I agree!  It worked well.  I was just stating that the more he gets opportunities to help the team win in that type of capacity as our backup QB he'll improve.
