With the end of the season nearing, I think it would be good to start assessing who's likely to win this prestigious award.  I'll preface it with notable events of the week:

Mariota: suffered his 2nd upset loss in a row, this time to lowly AZS.  He threw 2 picks in the game and might miss time with an undisclosed head injury.  Out of contention for the HT.

Petty: ScreenShot2013-11-23at6.02.45PM_crop_nor

This pathetic stumble at the 1-yd line was the lowlight of Petty's worst GOTY. A couple plays later, OSU would recover a fumble and drive 99 yd for a TD. Petty later sealed the game when he lost a fumble that was recovered by Tyler Patmon for a 78-yd TD. Petty was just 28/28 for 359 yd and 2 TD. He's likely out of contention now.

Manziel: was even more dreadful against LSU, completing just 16/41 passes for 224 yd, 1 TD and 2 INT. He failed to lead a scoring drive in the 2nd half and the 1st quarter. He made several key misthrown passes, including a probable TD reception to a wide-open Evans. Out of contention for a 2nd HT.

Winston: looming over the beloved freshman are rape allegations. Prosecutors are debating whether or not to press charges; could miss playing time if he's arrested or swarmed with legal matters. No matter how this turns out, Winston's reputation will never be the same.

The Top 3 on my Heisman Watch are:

McCarron
Winston
Carr

Unless McCarron loses in the Iron Bowl, I can't imagine him not winning it. He has an equal number of BCS Championships and losses (2). He has only 5 INT this season and 13 in his career. He has a very good chance of winning 3 consecutive BCS Championships.

Winston: his sexual assault allegations, combined with his weak schedule and the fact that only 1 freshman has ever won the HT, make it highly unlikely that he'll win it.

Carr: an absolute monster that elevates his mediocre team. Threw for 527 yd & 7 TD in 3 quarters this week. Has an underdog, feel-good story that should win him some votes.

LOL at Winston having a weak schedule. You do know that they have beat 2 top 10 ranked teams (at the time they beat them), and haven't scored less than 41 points in a single game yet. I don't care who they're playing, those are pretty dang good stats. Winston = Heisman.

Winston will win it. Unlike Johnny last year he has potential to be a great QB in the NFL. McArron will be a career backup in the pros, and is more of a product of the talent around him. Carr is good, but Winston is just a beast

If McCarron wins I might cry. He's probably the 10th best player on his own team.

Based on performance Jameis should win. Petty is in the conversation which is why I chose him because of Jameis' legal troubles.

Manziel has carried his team and put up crazy stats. Jordan Lynch should be considered too.

So would I. He's not as good as everyone thinks

Who is everyone? Most people I know think he is pretty average.

The winner isn't a surprise, the order is.  I'm surprised Manziel was only 5th in the voting, I guess the love affair with him is somewhat over.

Did anyone actually think it wasn't going to be Winston?

Their were a few lol

I'm surprised about the order too. #2 should've been Carr imo.

He was not even a candidate

I thought the order should have been Winston, AJ, Johnny, Lynch, Mason, Williams
