Anyone Think Troy Smith Will Get Alot Of Pre-season Playing Time!?

12 posts in this topic

Does anyone think Troy Smith will get a lot of pre-season playing time?. I hope this pre-season he gets icleast a full quarter to play every pre-season game or a bit more. I think McNair should play 1 Quarter, Boller 2nd Quarter, and Smith 3rd and 4th Quarters. BTW for people who reply well he may not even make the team or whatever it said.. I BELIEVE in him and know he will so that is why I am starting this thread before hand. BTW for all the people on this MB who went to the first day of training camp yesterday how did Smith do!?

i can see Troy getting about 3rd and 4th quarter playing time easy, mayb POSSIBLY towards the end of the Second quarter is what im leaning towards.....Seeing how McNair now is alot more comfortable with the Offense and things and he feels a lil more relaxed than last year , seeing how he isnt in a Rush to learn the plays, schemes and have to take all the reps in practice and stuff....Boller has been here since '03 and he basically knows how everything works (hopefully by now lol) so id expect to see him play in the 2nd quarter.....to wrap it up, Troy would play the 3rd and fourth quarter's of the pre-season games

I agree. McNair and Boller are both veterans who both know the offense. As much many people want Smith to take Boller's job, he won't yet. Smith doesn't the offense and we really can't afford to have McNair injured going into the start of the season. If Smith gets at least 2 quarters, it will give the coaches a chance to see if he can cut it in the NFL and it will give him some valuable reps.

No - I believe McNair and Boller should get the lion's share as it's their first chance to run this year's offense, which I'm optimistically hoping will feature added kinks and formations due to the addition of Willis and our more athletic O-line. Realistically, Troy won't see the field this year but he will get plenty of opportunity to get reps in pre-season game number 4.

FYI - on question of how Smith is doing so far - he had two picks today and needs to come to terms with the pace of the NFL and the speed of the defenses. But it's early and he's learning, so I wouldn't put too much stock into that at this point.

I will be at camp tommorow I hope to see Troy doing well, and get some good autographs. Hopefully my authentic Ed Reed black jersey would be nice signed with the silver pen :) and a Willis autograph but who knows if I am that lucky. And maybe my heap and ray ray jersey signed but I already have a bunch of Lewis autographs so that doesn't matter but to have his Jersey signed would be cool :P .

Smith will get a lot of Preseason Time, no sense to risk injury to McNair and well... Bueller is himself, nothing special except for spot duty.

I'm more excited to see Antwan Barnes, Dawan Landry and Le'Ron McClain.

I have been at camp both days so far and Smith doesn't impress me much so far. He struts around like he's proven something...I hope the D-fense show him some humility before we need him to step up!!!!! I am very impressed with year 2 McNair and and the receiving corp...I feel sorry for the other teams this year!!!!!!!! GO RAVENS!!

I think he should get some significant playing time, to see how he does. We can only see if he is eligible to take Boller's position, by the way he plays.

Not likely to happen. Billick's preseason regimen is not likely to be altered by catering to a rookie who may pan out in 2/3 years, against long odds (e.g., please name the last successful 6 foot zero inches QB to wear a Baltimore NFL football jersey). Billick's #1 priority is to get the offense in synch for the opener against Cincy, and adding extra playtime for Troy Smith would run counter to that objective.

Last season, the 3rd and 4th string QBs played a combined 2 quarters or less. Expect to see something similar this season between Olson & Smith.
