Thoughts on Eugene Monroe After Bears Game?

76 posts in this topic

One bad game doesnt make or break him. He went three or four games wwitout a sack prior to that. Pay him

Not so fast!

There was a 3rd sack in the game which Monroe was involved in. Lets watch him for the "key stretch" before considering investment.

Without reference to "tie breaks"........There are only 7 teams with worse records than ours.

If we draft 8th, those 4th and 5th round picks become more valuable!

I'll take a franchise LT over a 4th or 5th round prospect

i would've thought this is such a no-brainer; even a OT taken in the first is still a big question mark... look at what happened this year

I wouldn't write those guys off in their first year, but point taken.

On Monroe, if a game like this lowers his price then I'm glad he allowed those sacks. I don't think it will though, so I don't mind it being put down to a bad game in bad circumstances. If we could get heaped on for having a bad day at work we'd all get in trouble at some point.

He had a rough game, but Peppers is an excellent football player too. I remember JO getting abused by Dwight Freeney a few times.. so don't read too much into that last game. Monroe has been the only bright spot on the tragic left side of our Oline.

If a QB throws left hand, would it make LT less significant?

Traditionally yes.  The big thing is where the TE lines up and releases.  If the QB is Right handed, he's better at reading and throwing to the right side, so if you can keep the TE to the right it helps a lot in pass formations.  So you can help the RT easier with the TE and still have great passes into the flat and up the Seam.

If you have big issues with the LT you may have to degrade your passing attack to help.

With Left handed QBs basically just switch that.

yeah, the best term to describe how important the position is the blind side......

Rice was credited with letting up the other sack.
Still, we've seen three left tackles go top 10 in 2013, and all three are struggling. We could argue they're at a bad fit, or we could figure it's very hard to transition to the NFL. I'll take that proven vet, especially over late round prospects.

If people are upset about the trade because Julius peppers got a pair of sacks on Monroe then it's obvious they are casual football fans and know nothing about Julius Peppers because he is subject to have a dominate game at times.

Monroe has been solid considering he was added to the roster during the season, he seems to be performing better than Mckinnie was with the eye test ( not sure if PFF grades him out higher. ). Trading mid round picks for a starting LT is a steal

How does a bad LG make the LT get beat around the edge? Not only a cop out, but a cop out with no basis.

You are talking about one of the all time best at his position.  Forget what the stats say, Pep is a monster.  If Eugene had problems with him it's not all that uncommon.  He does well against quarterbacks that stand still in the pocket,

I am all for paying this man a decent contract, not a ridiculous contract, but a decent one to retain his services. Eugene is a good LT and I like him.

The game against Chicago was not a fair test but he certainly hasn't looked like an All Pro so far. The upcoming contest against the Steelers will be a good test to see how well he stacks up against a well-coached, disciplined defensive unit. The Steelers do a good job of setting the edge against runs to the outside and they do an even better job of applying edge pressure in passing situations. It will be interesting to see how many times the Steelers apply edge pressure by sending Troy Polamalu to blitze from the blind side. If he does, he'll probably be pancaked by Vonta Leach. By allowing him to penetrate into the backfield and countering it with a couple of well-executed screen passes, it might neutralize his effectiveness. Run, Ray, run! Protect the ball, Joe, protect the ball!
