How is Lardarius Webb doing this year?

25 posts in this topic

I wanted opinions on Webb and his progress this year after returning from ACL injury.

Do you think he is 100% and/or playing at max potential? If not, what are your expections for this year and heading into next year? Does the team go after another playmaker CB in the draft, even though we have Webb, Smith, Graham, Brown, and Jackson?

I personally think Webb's little nicks and ACL injury still has hi operating at about 85%. I think he will continue to be this way until the season is over. I think the team has confidence in him, however, I see the team standing pat with the CB position in the draft.

He's been much better since the bye week.  I'm not sure if he's at 100%, but he's definitely close to it.  As the season has gone on, he's been a lot better, which is to be expected since he was back playing less than a year before his injury.  He's been on fire these past 2 weeks, which is reminiscent of the old Webb.

I still think we hit CB in the mid rounds, but I don't think that has anything to do with Webb.  Graham will be gone and teams always need 3 good CB's.  You can't rely on either Chykie or Asa at this point.  It may be free agency as well, but I highly doubt we stand pat at CB.

Webb is still inconsistent and he got beat in the slot against big TEs; he's one of the reason the Bears drove down for the winning FG in OT.....

We need his consistency back.....

That was a mismatch that shouldn't have happened in the first place, so I don't place the blame on Webb for that.  There's only so much a 5'10 CB can do against a 6'6 TE.

I don't know why Pees put him in there against Jeffery but if that happened so, he needs to stay in front of Jeffery though.....

I think with Jimmy, Webb, Asa, and Chykie, they go mid round CB in case Smith leaves the following year and asa or chykie are busts.

The last time he tore his ACL, it took him a while in-season to get going again. Based on his performance over the last two weeks, I would say the same thing has happened again. He started the season off poorly, but has been improving and has had two great performances over the last two weeks.

Not to bash Webb but I've seen him make that play against Gronk. I definitely don't think he's at 100.

After his game against Cinci, i thought he was getting back to his old self. But he didn't play nearly as good against the bears. Still think he's getting his health back, it takes time. He's playing solid but not making the plays he's capable of except for maybe the bengals game.

Part of that is the ground.  Webb is a cut and strike corner who uses his quickness.  But with the wetness he couldn't really move around too well.

Yep.  The advantage is clearly for the WR's in weather like that.  CB's have to react and move where the WR does for the most part.  It was obviously very difficult to plant and cut in the mud pit.  Reaction time was clearly affected.

it benefits bigger wide receivers too.

No one,
NO ONE here is a bigger Webb fan than I am.

He is doing quite well for the most part.  not up to par with what we had gotten used to.  Not the Webb from the first past of last season and the season prior.
I dont think the injury has much to do with it .

Long story short, he is not getting cut, but Jimmy is our current number one.

He got smoked over the top in the Steeler's loss also, Over rated and over paid.

Hasn't played a full season in three years, Now has two reconstructed knees, Just what I always wanted in a corner.

That's a a good point. Especially considering he's coming off a second ACL. Here's to hoping he dominates against the Jets.

Oh yeah let's put Chykie Brown or Corey Graham in there, they never get burned.

I didn't say they were the answer, but lets admit we over payed for Webb. keep it real man!

Webb's BIG deal is a small part of the reason Boldin is not here, Let's here your argument to that.

Boldin was over paid as well.  Virtually every player on the team is over paid.

Edit:

Every team on a major contract.

Hindsight on an injury is easy.

Talent alone he's absolutely worth his contract.  Can't account for injuries that haven't happened yet when you're negotiating a contract.

Wish all corners tackled like Webb.  Kid doesn't blow out both knees and he's a top 5 CB in the NFL for a good 5-6 years as a 3rd round pick out of Nicholls St.

Not bad kid.
