Development Players

23 posts in this topic

Okay so here's my thinking while were still in the hunt for the last wildcard play, a few more losses and we may be out of it. If that happens I think it would do the team more good to start players like Jusczyzk, Wagner, Jensen etc. as they will get real game time as opposed to preseason game time and it will give the team more of an idea of what they can do, maybe even play Tyrod and see if he is a viable number two if Joe gets injured. If it doesn't work we're already out of the playoff hunt we just get a better draft pick but if it helps their development then it will benefit us next year! Thoughts?

Also as annoying as this year has been if someone said last year you can have the Super Bowl this year then less than .500 next year I'd still take that deal! Also we should have kept Bobby Rainey, sorry for the multiple topics I just want to get it all off my chest!

As bad as we've been, it's still possible to make the playoffs.  If we're continuing to lose in the coming weeks, I'm sure you'll begin to see some experimentation with the young guys.  I don't think any of them we'll start or anything, but I could see them getting some snaps.

I agree that we can still make the playoffs and I still think we will but also if we don't think it will benefit us more to play younger players

It may get to that point.  This has been brought up before and I've maintained that the last 4 or so games might be a good chance if we're out of it.  I doubt we go overboard, but I see guys like Juszczyk, Furstenburg, Jensen, Simon, Jackson, and O. Brown getting some time since they may be parts of the future.  I doubt you'll see much from a guy like Tyrod, for example, since he's not a long-term piece at this point.

Make the playoffs? We can't even beat a Bears team that started a career backup. Even worse, they didn't beat us, we beat ourselves. We can't get out of our own way to win a game. Always an offensive blunder or a blown coverage on defense. Just more of the same. Good news is, we might crap out enough to get a top 10 pick.

It's possible.  Even though we lost, we're in the same exact position we were last week since every other team in the hunt lost as well.  The only difference is that we now have one less week to get there.  I doubt it happens, but it's still possible.

Several of those guys will be backups for their whole Ravens careers. Fans gotta realize that many late picks are the Zibbys, the Nakamura's, the Antawn Barnes', the Edgar Joneses, and the LQ Williams' for the Ravens. Not quite not starter talent, but good fill in players.

I want to see the young guys in whether there's a chance or not. Right now, it's going to take some fire to get some wins. The starters have become complacent and the best way to fix that is to stir the pot. Put some guys in that want to play. I want to see guys with fire, especially on defense. Those guys have looked soft, apathetic, and pathetic. No drive whatsoever late in games. When things get tough the defense just packs it in. I want to see Simon and Williams more. I want to see Elam unleashed and blitzing. I want to see some damn enthusiasm. It's freaking football and those pansies that played today looked morose. I'd give anything to be on the field still and they're pansying around playing patty cake.

100% correct , we beat ourselves and if we do have a chance we will loose it on the roll

That's possible, but what's the harm in giving them some playing time and seeing whether or not they have the potential to start?  If we're out of it, that's what we should be doing.  Playing guys like Dallas Clark and Corey Graham aren't going to help us.

Alienating the better, more talented players and fracturing the locker room???

I'm not saying that these guys should take all of the playing time.  I think they'll rotate in and get some snaps.  Teams do this every year.  It's not going to hurt the locker room.

I understand whole-heartedly, but remember - great coaching negates great effort. Our coaches aren't great X and O guys.

Edit: thinking about a different player

Wagner might start, they were really high on him.

Disagree, but we will not see eye to eye on this. You don't test a players skill by playing him above a player that has clearly beat him out.

....Locker Room suicide.....

Would you put Juice in on any play above Leach unless the game is settled???

It's not going to ruin locker room morale to give a young kid some extra snaps in a game.  I'm not saying to start these guys or even give them a full game.  It's a rotation.

If we're towards the end of the season and we're out of contention, why would we continue to only play veteran players that are on one year deals and aren't going to be back next season?  It's a waste.  That's what those final few weeks are for when you're a losing team.  Teams do this every single year.

Juszczyk?  Leach is hardly even playing right now and will be gone next year

Furstenburg?  Dickson has done nothing to earn his playing time and will be gone next year.

Jensen/Wagner?  No harm in taking Shipley out whatsoever.

Simon?  Purely rotational.

A. Jackson?  CB's rotate all the time anyways, and Graham will be gone next year.

O. Brown?  3 S packages are increasingly common.

You aren't taking any significant playing time away from bringing these guys in for several snaps per game.  This doesn't require benching anyone.

Juice blew that guy up on special teams today, it was pretty awesome. He was making a statement for sure.

Very true. The ineptitude is at bush league level, it's like we're a team of rookies.

Bad example, this team couldn't beat Third String Charlie Batch last year, but went on to win the Super Bowl.
But yes week in and out it's some kind of junk either conservative offensive calls or bend but don't break until late defense.
