[News] Game Recap: Bears 23, Ravens 20 OT

1. Beating the Jets won't even come close to officially eliminating them. There are a full game ahead of us.

2. The most important thing any fan can do is be reasonable. Cheering and waving poms poms during bad times doesn't make any fan special or better than somebody else. Being reasonable, as I've found out from two years on these boards, is far more special.

The Ravens could win every game they have left, but thats not reasonable. Why? Because we've seen nothing from them to suggest that they can. Anything we have would be based on historical information that is almost guaranteed to be completely irrelevant to the 2013 team.

The reality... the Ravens basically no longer control their own destiny. They can realistically get to 8 or possibly 9 wins, but even that might be a stretch based on how they play. And at 8-8, you still need help from other teams in order to secure a spot.

I make judgments about this team based on what I see, not based on what could happen if lightning strikes. Technically, there isn't a single team in the AFC that is "officially eliminated" either, but I doubt there's a single Jags fan on the planet that thinks that team is a playoff team.

"The reality... the Ravens basically no longer control their own destiny?" That's not reality. If the Ravens win-out (10-6 record), we will have beaten Steelers (once), Jets (once), & Bengals (twice), the only other teams that could win-out in be in a virtual tie with us is the Browns, Titans and Dolphins (would finish 11-7). Reasonable: These teams winning-out is more unlikely or the Dolphins not losing 2 of their remaining games (based on schedule) and the AFC West spot should go to Chiefs or Broncos. There are a whole host of teams still alive for those 2 spots (true), that still doesn't mean that the Ravens don't control their own destiny. They just have to take one game at a time and win. That's reality. Even if it's still not good enough to make playoffs, it still doesn't mean that they didn't control their own destiny from the Jets forward. We beat the Jets and it doesn't matter what the Jets do for the rest of the season if we win-out. We've eliminated them from stopping us from reaching the playoffs. That's reality.

That's reasonable and it doesn't make you a 'good' fan or 'bad' fan to acccept that. No insult intended. No pom pom required. We just have a difference of opinion. I'm not a Jag fan if your opinion is right (although I have to believe that there's still a fan or 2 that still even believes in them). As a Raven fan, I choose to not to surrender to the end. I can control my own 'destiny', can't I?

You never choose to receive the kick in OT. Moronic. You play to odds and go for the first stop, and the winning TD.

I'm pretty sure no team has deferred the opening kickoff in overtime since the new "not quite sudden death" rules went into effect. And I think the last time it happened was in 2002?

Smh I'm starting to think we need a new qb..someone that can get us points..I know if we can get 30 or points we will be hard to beat our defense is doing good..I wanna give tyrod a shot..just to make joe feel like he's bout to lose his job..maybe that would make him play better.. To be honest I think tyrod would of gotten us that last 2yard touchdown with his legs for us..for some reason I think he's better than flacco I really wanna see him start 1game..don't judge me that's jus how I feel!!

Agree with most of what you said. We need to see more of Tyrod Taylor. Being the QB of the Baltimore Ravens, is not a birth right for Joe Flacco. He has played poorly - his best moment were the playoffs last year. He was average before then, and he is average now. He's been at this since 2008. Just imagine if Tyrod got the same opportunity.

Well, looks like were having an off season. Happens to almost all sports teams at one point or another. I Hope we continue to get younger talent with this stacked draft. If things go poorly enough, maybe we can even draft a QB with the potential of being elite one day. For now, all I can do is pray... The good thing is it takes all the pressure off the remainder of the year and we can just chill and enjoy whatever our Ravens can muster. The very Best to Ozzie and his family.

Most fans wished he made the team. Just like Castillo, we have no say.

1st and goal with the game on the line and seconds left....and we run three straight plays from a shotgun formation? Once again the coaching was the biggest letdown.

no gino played very well he made a mistake you can't bench of cut every single player who makes a mistake we wouldn't have any players left .

I apologize for the confusion, but I had his season performance in mind.

The final game sunday,Broncos vs. Cheifs.I wish joe could run an offense like those two.

Not possible because he is not Peyton Manning and I think Alex Smith has no illusions of being elite like Flacco, he is reconciled to being the best game manager in football. That is why he is successful. He has no pretensions about his place amongst QBs in the league. So, Joe isn't Alex Smith either...

Joe is trying to be somebody he can't be. He has an awesome 4 game run during the playoffs and nobody is going to take away that ring from him. But, then again, when you think about it, Nick Foles has done it this yar in 5 Straight games and has thrown 17 TDs to 0 Ints with a 7 TD game thrown in for good measure! So is he elite? I don't think so...
