Ed Reed

But I say we resign him if he doesn't ask for to much. His coaching/leadership is unprecedented and like people previously stated it really would uplift that locker room along with our city.

Ray Lewis says hello.

I negged your comment for the luls

But you responded (kind of)! :)  I up voted yours, because it made me luls.

I sure hope he retires. It's hard to watch a vet that holds on too long, especially a Raven.

You got a sweet payday for "playing"  5 games. just retire Ed.

I think I would be more annoyed at Ed going to play with the Jets than the Pats tbh.

I really hope Ed retires. Seeing him potentially bounce around teams and play beyond is means is the last thing any fan of Ed's wants to see. A nostalgia tour as a Raven would've been great fan service but at the end of the day the team winning games is more important and it's been decided that bringing Ed back isn't whats best for our team at this point in the season. Ozzie was right about Reed the first time and it's becoming more evident every week that he was right about Boldin. Gotta trust the decision that was made here and move on.

I'd neg you again for these, but I ran out of negs for the day.

Thats right, one is limited on negs, no matter how justified.

I think Ed Reed still can play. I'm certain of it, basing that certainty on the posters here. They are a perfect reverse barometer.

Lol.  It just rubs me the wrong way sometimes.  If you don't like what I said, tell me why you don't like it.  Let's have a discussion - this is a forum.

What I said earlier in the thread was a joke about Ed playing on the o-line, but then people neg it.  It's silly.

EDIT: And yes, I know it's a bad joke :P

Jets are on him...

If the Jets sign him then there is the Dawan Landry and Ed Reed backfield reunion.

Landry before the neck injury was a stud for us back then.

negs mean nothing man!  stop worrying about how many of them you get and why.  this isn't a popularity contest.  just say what you have to say and move on!   whoever doesn't like it or disagrees, that's their right and issue.

honestly hirering him as an advisor to the secondary or as a personal trainer for elam would not be bad. he would have to retire first according to league rules though and be vacant position 1 months I believe

Anyone else hear the jets are interested?

ESPN New York's Rich Cimini reports the Jets are "indeed" showing interest in free agent FS Ed Reed.

If he tries to play beyond his means with yet another team some Ravens fans are going to start to resent him a little. Take a cue from Ray and know "when it's your time, it's your time".  The ship sailed last February Ed, let us remember you for all the joy you brought us every sunday as the best ball hawk in NFL history.. you don't want to be remembered for playing as a shell of yourself and bouncing around teams. There's nothing left to prove, the pro bowls, a SB Championship, 1st ballot HOF'er, Ed has done everything an NFL player could ever dream of doing.

I really wish Ed can retire as a Raven. He was so important for the franchise. That said, our secondary is sadly better without him. True and very painfull to point that out as a fan.

Ed's a grown man! IF he wants to continue to play and feels that he can....he should! just because Ray Lewis said; "This is my last ride," doesn't mean that it should be Ed's. they are two different people! sure, I want Ed to comeback to Baltimore...doubt it happens....but I'd love it! but, IF another team shows interest in him now that he is a "free agent," I have no problem with that cause what he does or doesn't do for them WILL NEVER diminish what he has accomplished as a Raven. play on Ed! play on brah!

Surely someone can give us the stats to prove the secondary would be better with a 35yr old safety with an injured hip and neck which has reduced his speed on the field. Reed is one of my favorite all time Ravens but a starter he is no longer.

Yeah our safeties are much better than last year.

Read that Little Napoleon stated the Ravens have no intention of signing Ed in any capacity.  We'll just have to add that one to the litany of missteps the "managers" have made in the last year.

Of course Little Napoleon had eye-wear on. It was decidedly flowery in color.

Ed Reed is 35 years old ,he's still recovering from a hip injury to my understanding, and  he hasn't been playing well at all .   I would love for Ed Reed to come back but thats just me as a fan with out considering logical reason.

If the ravens bring back Ed Reed who are they going to cut ? and is it really worth the risk to sign  a player whom may not have it  anymore? It may be too risky especially for a player that can't play on special team and then cut a player whom can play special teams  and etc.

Well he went unclaimed. Did you get that?

UN-CLAIMED

Perhaps now he'll elect to sign his one day contract so he can retire a Raven.

Throughout the devolution of the Ravens the point conveyed here has been that a player can be vastly more valuable to one team than another.  That essential quality has been lost to more "influential" people than the posters here. Stats are a very poor barometer unless one is playing fantasy football, the operative word being fantasy.

The threads here will reveal that this poster stated Reed would go unclaimed. That is not a surprise for a number of reasons so there's no need to get into them. But if he wants to play for another team its likely he will. I'd like to see him with the Jets, lighting up Joltin Joe for a pick six to further illustrate the ineptitude of our Front Office.

The only relevant stat is 4-5.  You are what your record says you are.

They already said they won't be signing Reed so you're proposing a hypothetical.

Don't know we'd have to cut anyone. Omar Brown could go back to the practice squad. However, if we had to cut someone the vote here would be Cleats. The sooner we send him packing the better. There's no way they'll do that at this juncture. There's some guarantee money and all, but at the end of his salary cap impact the position here is he'll be gone.

And this proves you're not a fan.  No one roots against their team and hopes for the worst.

I fail to see how losing Ed caused our offense to become completely inept.

Our defense has performed remarkably well given the fact that our offense has a tendency to go 3 and out numerous times in a row during games.  Our defense has kept games close for the most part, and our offense has failed us dearly when we need to put points up on the board.

Just like the Bengals game - offense looks pretty good the first half, scoring 17 unanswered, though one of those TDs was the result of a huge Bengals penalty.  Then the offense comes back in the second half and looks like their not even cut out to play pee wee football.  Our defense allowed just 10 points in the entire game until the fluke hail mary.  Our offense couldn't even get a field goal in the second half to keep our head above water!!!

We would have had to match or best the Texans offer for Ed.  We would be 5 mil lower in cap money right now - almost no way we would have had Dumervil, or been able to sign Monroe.

Your post makes me shake my head.

To those that say he should just hang 'em up...

So, you're in the NFL and have two potentially playoff bound teams fawning over you. One is ran by a defensieve genius and the other is (supposedly) the greatest coach of the modern day era. Both are going to offer you a milly or two and a heavily incentive laden contract. What do YOU do?

Then I guess the only relevant stat would be 2-7. That would be what the Texans are, WITH Ed Reed.

Face it, Reed's play (or lack thereof) proves you wrong. Ozzie was correct in not paying Reed the big money to stay. You can spin it any way you like, Ozzie's decision has been vindicated.

Ravens didn't resign Ed Reed with big money because they knew how injured he was. Apparently the Texans didn't know he needed that kind of surgery before giving him that money.
