Ed Reed

It put a huge smile on my face when Eric Davis of NFL AM said the following about a possible home for Ed Reed;

"The best new home for Ed Reed would be his former home; the Ravens!  That's the best spot for him!  That's the place where his voice carries.  His voice echoes the most there!  It carries the most weight there!  He has equity there!  And they would still listen to him and he could help that team."

Eric Davis went on to say; "Does anyone on this couch not view Ed Reed as a Raven?  Does anyone not believe that Ed Reed views himself as a Raven?  Going back into that locker room, this is a place that could deal with him.  They know his history!  They've dealt with his injuries.  They know that even if he is not full speed he can perform there!  And, that is why I say he has more equity there...than anywhere in the league!"

Davis is always a breath of fresh air in the stinky room of NFL analysts.

Yeah no one seems to get it really outside of Davis.

Reed belongs here, he's more than just a football player, he's family.

Maybe he can't play anymore. I don't really care tbh. Maybe, just maybe, he can still provide something here in Baltimore on the field, where we gave him the freedom to be Ed Reed.

If nothing else, he could most likely be used situationally and would definitely help coach up our young safeties. You can't teach instinct but Reed had more than just instinct.

I just really think it would provide an emotional spark for this team. I could be wrong, I could be just too emotional about it to see it clearly. Don't care. Ed Reed belongs in Baltimore.

I loved Ed when he played like "Ed Reed" but now????

*Still can't or will not open field tackle

*Takes plays off during games

*Wears a red jersey during team practice

*Constantly leaves his fellow defense players hanging out to dry while hot dogging

No thanks, Your time has passed we don't need a 35 year old safety.....

Love it, and very true. QB's still see #20 back roaming back there and will not throw that way. Reed, Elam, Ihedigbo rotation would be very effective imo.

Boy do I miss that man my favorite raven of all time and always will be. That being said of course he got cut because of his comments. It's way to much of a coincidence that he called out the coaching staff then he gets cut. And to everyone saying to sigh him so he can retire a raven there is no doubt in my mind whether he plays this year or next year with a different team when he is ready to retire he will sign a 1 day contract and retire a raven you can bet your bottom dollar on that.

But I say we resign him if he doesn't ask for to much. His coaching/leadership is unprecedented and like people previously stated it really would uplift that locker room along with our city. All he did last year was take away half the field he played deep zone all year. And I think he can still do that. And he would also make sure every player is where they need to be on every play. Clearly he can't tackle to well anymore. But with him at FS we can cycle Ihedigbo/Elam which would be great imo. I really don't see any reason to not bring him back if the price is right.

2/3 of the earth is covered by water, the rest is covered by Ed Reed :baltimore-ravens:

Why does everyone think Ed Reed will be effective when his play has shown that is will not be? His hip and neck injuries have shown it will not be at all. If he was healthy maybe but hes not at all. Why would you rotate in an injured 35yr old player who is having trouble tackling and shifting his hips in coverage?

I just don't think Ed is a play maker anymore.  He excelled here by using his instincts and freelancing, but many who watch the tape of him this year agree that his hip is seriously limiting his speed and range, so I don't think he can be an effective freelancer at this point because he isn't getting from point A to point B as fast.

If he were still in Baltimore, his hip wouldn't magically be better, and he would still not be the old play maker we've come to expect.

I mean, how much better a situation can he be in than playing for a team that had SB hopes at the beginning of the season, playing for one of the best defensive minds in recent football memory?  I'm not using HOUs collapse as an excuse, I just don't think he brings anything to the table anymore.

I would use Ed Reed in limited packages, situations where I know a deep ball needs to be thrown. Like a hail mary for instance. Still though our current safeties need all the experience they can get and removing them from the game just to put Reed in will hurt them. I wonder if he could coach up a secondary, I don't see why we couldn't do that if he was able to do that job.

Well, it's time for Ed to retire as a Ravens.....

It would be sickening if Belichick sweeps him up...

Unfortunately I think that's what happens

As Hensley from ESPN said, the last image of Ed Reed in a Ravens uniform is hoisting the Lombardi trophy.  It should stay that way.

Ed, hang up the cleats, take care of your body, and retire a Raven.

The deadline is around 4:30pm est today.

It looks like he'll clear waivers.

Yeah because nobody wants that contract Houston was stupid to give him.

Yeah no one's going to claim him.  He's actually owed about $1M for the rest of the year.  Approximately $400K in base salary, $400K is roster bonuses, and $200K or so that the Texans can claim for whatever reason.

I sure hope he retires. It's hard to watch a vet that holds on too long, especially a Raven.

You got a sweet payday for "playing"  5 games. just retire Ed.

They gave him so much guaranteed money, it'd actually be funny if we weren't guilty of giving out some pretty crappy contracts too.
