Ed Reed

No don't sign him. It would be cool and all but he is old. Let him hang it up this year. He is one of my favorite players of all time and I'm saying we should not.

They are not friends....

As evidenced by their bro-hugs before and after the Texans game? In addition to numerous times when he actually was a Raven.

Maybe Ed Reed is a system player. We let him do whateva/freestyle and that only failed us when our corners were not very good. Since we have solid corners ED Reed can roam/anticipate.

Crazy how he's gone from getting a pick in the Superbowl to being cut by the Texans.

I don't think he would be much of an upgrade from who we have now. Yeah, he's one of the best safeties of all time, but he's hurtling downhill. There's a reason we didn't resign him this past offseason. I would love to see him on the sidelines, though. This team could use the intensity.

Yeah, sure. Nostalgia is nice and it makes fans happy. It's just too bad nostalgia doesn't win games.

A team with a losing record cut this guy. A team started a rookie at FS over Reed. As much as he pissed me of, I loved Ed, but you have to be daft or blind to want him back as a player.

Idk about you guys, but winning makes me happier than nostalgia.

You hit the nail on the head man. I would take him back at the vet minimum because I think his knowledge would help the young guys and for that cheap why not, but he's not going to be a savior for this team.

He isn't a playmaker anymore, he needs to sit back in deep zone, his impact wouldn't be any better than Elam's to be honest

If he was coming back to help the young guys, I'd rather just make him a defensive assistant or something so he doesn't take a roster spot or cap room.

Why Not, He would only make teams nervous wearing a Raven uniform. Maybe he doesn't have much left in the tank, but he has huge potential as a mentor.Give Elam time with Reed and we will have the second coming of Reed.

This amuses me to no end.  I remember when the Texans signed him, all of their fans thought it was such a huge coup.  How could they get the greatest safety of all time to leave his team?

Jokes on them now.  We all knew he was a shell of his former self.  This season showed just how beat up he is.  Very glad we didn't resign him to a big deal now.

Ed Reed can play nickel back for me any day. He was a man w/o a city in Houston. For, $411,000 and change we can have him for the stretch run. It would be a good, cheap insurance policy and he would be great for Elam as a player-coach. Bring him back ASAP! We need some help to stop Marshall in Chicago!

I like it!  But I think the more likely scenario is that we sign him for a day to retire a Raven

Should bring back Pollard (I know hes not cut lol) and Ed Reed only for the NE game.

Lol.  Pollard's good for knocking out at least one guy from the game.

You dont need to sign him for vet. Minimum.

His waiver $ is 460k.

Oh. Well I would do it. Why not?

I don't think he would tho

So i guess you missed his stupid late hit on the sliding QB this weekend!  + Our D-Backfield is much better this year! I am sure a a crybaby like Brady could get 30 - 60 yards out of Pollard... no thanks ...no gifts this time!

We could sign him for one day so he can retire a Raven now.

Health wise I'm not sure he can contribute at all. Now if he wants to play center field and let Elam slide down to SS ( where I think he belongs ) it be nice.

I'd like ed to comeback as DB coach or Defensive consultant. He studies so much film I'm sure he could coach a little.

Don't care what anyone says, would love to see him back. Will it happen? Probably not. In reality, should it happen? Definitely not, he isn't even a shell of his former self. But I still would not mind it at all.

If they bring him back, I will never Troll Harbs on this site again lol.

Ed Reed is use to being on a winning team!  a playoff team!  that's not the Texans!  sure, he's older, a little banged up etc, etc, etc.  but he is ours!  I believe that Ed really lost his desire to play when he left Baltimore.  it was his pride that made him go through the motions down there in Houston and losing just caused his true feelings to surface.  lol!  I believe that he'd jump at the chance to come back home to finish this year out with the Ravens and to retire a Raven.  that's how it should be!  will it be that way?  who knows?

There should be no question that the Ravens should resign Ed Reed. For anyone who thinks that he wasn't a key part of our Super Bowl run you only have to look at the 2012 stats (4 ints-3 fumble recoveries-49 tackles-4 assist). If anyone who thinks that he wasn't a team player just listen to the guys who played with him (particularly secondary stand-outs still on the team). They became better players. For anyone who thinks that he wouldn't be an inspirational lightning-rod that could spark our season for the fans just read the polls. For those who are convinced that his playing days are over and it's just not a good business decision for Oz and Harb just consider all of the statements before. We would only sacrifice less than 20% of his contract (nearly league minimum wage) to show loyalty to an honored Raven and reaffirmed to every player on the team and in the league that being a Raven means Family. I'd go the extra mile for that alone. Ask Ray Lewis should Ed be embraced for his final season. What would he say? Ed Reed needs to retire a Raven. We deserve that and he deserves that.

I am not a fan of bringing people back to retire ESPECIALLY when they are long tenured and beloved and then leave for money. I know it is unpopular but I would not bring him back in any capacity and the reason is 3 fold.

First and foremost, he left us even though we were willing to pay him more than he was worth. The texans pursued him and they did it with money, and he took it. That is not us letting him go or unceremoniously dumping him on his head, or even paying fair market value. I am still upset that he left, compound that with the favre-esque retirement for his last 3 seasons and it just does not lend itself to me being a supporter. He should have stayed and he knows it. Todd Heap should have stayd and he knows it (he would have a SB ring), Mason should have stayed. All these dudes chased money and left us fans with the empty feeling of watching a beloved Raven go. Now that the tables have turned and they have hobbled their way to the end of their career we are supposed to forget ? Some of you can which is commendable. I can not.

Second, I think it cheapens the meaning of when someone retires a "Raven". To this point there has been only two who were pretty good (putting it mildly) and retired with us. It cheapens how special that really is when players do that. I mean my two favorite Ravens were JO and Ray and it is not coincidence they retired here. I mean Ray did not take a pay cut but he settled for cheaper than he had to to stay here. That is far more special than taking a big paycheck somewhere else and then coming back just so you can say you retired a Raven when we all know you really retired a Texan.

And third. I have heard some say bring him back in a coaching capacity. Why ? His game was predicated off instincts which are really hard to try to teach if not impossible altogether. Could they learn something off of film study from him ? Sure. The question is why ? I mean Teryl Austin from what it seems like is doing a pretty good job when you consider the steps a lot of guys have made here. I mean Jimmy and Webb have cam along beautifully. Jimmy took a bit longer but he is putting it together and is playing really well. Then consider that people like Asa are looking to be pretty good, the jury is out until there is some game minutes to see. Then guys like Graham who can come here as nothing more than special teams and play such an intricate role in what we do.

Fact is we dont need him in any capacity. Not as a player or coach. We dont have a need as a defensive backs coach and there are people far more worthy od being the D coordinator than Ed. Why would we bring him back ?

Mason retired as a Raven after he moved on unsuccessfully to the Jets and Houston.  Reed is no different.  He needs to retire a Raven even if its a 1$ contract.

Also Lewis didn't accept less to stay here.  On the contrary we paid him far more than any team was going to.

That is my point. Mason should have never retired as a Raven. He has even less right than Reed considering we did not draft him.

And I remember someone in the media saying another team was courting him to come and that he was taking a paycut albeit a small one. The validity to this is uncertain as it was a media talking head, but I do remember hearing it.
