Ed Reed

355 posts in this topic

I think more than his play, it was Ed being Ed. Whether he can play or not, his value as basically a player-coach for their secondary is invaluable. His money is guaranteed, there is nothing they gain from releasing him.

I think this all has to do with the fact that Ed spoke up after the game and said something like the Texans were "out-played and out-coached" and went on talking about the teams deficiencies - especially coaching/scheming/play calling. And then when people got upset he said it, he tweeted something like "Speak the truth no matter what."

Ed being Ed and an embattled team in a tailspin can't have veteran with Ed's resume muddying the locker room waters even more than they are. Of course, watching the Texans, he was right and maybe they might want to listen a bit.

So... how many Texans fans will be angry for spending $100+ on a Ed Reed jersey just for him to be released months later.

Co-inky-dink that right after he slams the coaching staff and players he gets a pink slip?

Baltimore put up with "Ed being Ed" because of the player he was and the weight he carried. Houston just saw an overpaid, vaguely injured, non-productive whiner and cut him loose. If Ed would have played it smart and kept quiet, he could have earned his way through more of that contract - you know, the reason he left Baltimore in the first place ($$$).

I knew he would be most valuable here but how could anyone see that fall from grace?

I'd love to see Ed back to close out his career.

I don't think for a second the Ravens will let him back in the locker room though. He's too strong a presence and Harbaugh is too hung up on making Flacco the team leader he's not built to be.It would threaten that.

Typical Ravens fan post lol

As soon as he got cut I'm thinking " someone is going to actually want him to come back to Baltimore"... And here we are.

No. I do not want him to play for us but I would love to extend him a coaching position. Hell , even an offensive line coach

Reed will most likely retire after this season.

We'll probably sign him on that one day contract so he can retire as a Raven.

For now, I doubt we're interested in signing a broken and unmotivated aged player who is way past his prime.

Come on, we even cut Michael Huff. I doubt we sign Reed when he can't even beat the 3rd stringers in Houston.

I agree....  Exccept...  Michael Huff is no Ed Reed.

I just hope he doesn't end up on the patriots....ugh

I don't see any way that happens. Fist off, he is playing bad with a lingering hip injury. He will not help anyone right now, unless you give him some time to sit out and maybe hope he can play well in a playoff run. Then, if the pats did pick him up on waivers they would have to pay him his entire salary I believe. No way anyone is paying that, as they could have had him for that before the season started, when people thought he could at least make an impact. If anyone takes him I think it could be us.

He's not nearly the same player, but for nostalgia, I'd re-sign him just as a situational player.

I'm a sucker for nostalgia.

hell yeah i'd bring him back!  you damn skippy!  idc what anyone in here says!  Ed is a Raven for life!!!!  I don't believe his heart was really into being a Texan no ways!  but, if that were to happen....IF...the Ravens were to bring him back.....can you imagine the initial shock and awe and excitement that would cause not only in the locker room from old teammates but also within M&T Bank Stadium when his name is announced coming out of the tunnel wearing the #20 Ravens jersey....ReeeeeeeeeeeeeeeD!  boy I miss hearing that!  or, just let him be on the sidelines wearing the jersey and schooling Elam and Ihedigbo.  I say, come home Ed...come home!!  Muhahahahahahahahahahaha!!

It would be great if he signed back with us and help mentor Elam.... but most likely wont happen.. He will just retire a raven

I think he should be signed even if he doesn't play.  Let him finish his playing career in a Ravens uniform, or at least wearing Ravens sweats on the sidelines.  Even without his ability to play at a high level right now, his input and leadership would be invaluable to this team.  He could easily take on kind of a coaching role and be a positive presence in the locker room, then he retires a Raven and maybe becomes a coach officially.

I don't think he would be very productive on the field, but I would like him to retire in a Ravens uniform. Could we afford that kind of luxury?

According to Jason La Canfora, he says the Saints and Colts may have some interest in Reed and would be surprised if he landed back in Baltimore.

Meaning, there is a pretty good chance he does considering how Canfora doesn't have his facts straight all the time.

Ed Reed is no Ed Reed

I don't believe that there is anyone on this thread that believes Ed Reed should come back as a player...  But I wouldn't release a player for Ed Reed at this point...  an honorary coach or assistant seems to be the concensus.  Baltimore still loves Ed Reed...  Regardless.  My point was...  You just cannot compare Michael Huff to Ed Reed when it comes to Baltimore.

Always respected Ed....Nothing wrong with wanting him back 'from a fan's pov'   And as for playing here? That's up to the coaches. He has a brilliant playing mind, it would be ashame not to let him help though. I just don't know if it would work on that staff.

I don't see him coming back here for any reason outside of ROH and possibly some coaching position.

@AdamSchefter: Ed Reed goes on waivers. A team claiming him owes him $412,000 plus $62,500 for each game he is active.

You dont need to sign him for vet. Minimum.

His waiver $ is 460k.

The article on site says if claimed off waivers the team would be responsible for his $411,000 salary for 2013. We got that in cap space and we have to be up for the waiver wire before Saints & Colts right? Or does it got by last season's performance?

I don't care. Bring back Ed Reed. Use him as a situational player but mainly to coach up our young safeties. He can retire a Raven and we can offer him a coaching job this off season.

Get it done Ozzie!
