Ed Reed

I doubt if Ed is playing for the money, I feel he is one of those Ray Lewis clone type of guys and he plays b/c the fire is still burning in him, the passion for the game. Ed still feels he has something in the tank and it cracks me up when people say he should have retired with Ray, for what? Ray came into the league like 7 years before him or something like that and it would be insane for Ed to retire at the same time Ray did considering that. One thing about the Free safety position, you have guys like Woodson ( both ), Sharper just to name a few that played well past their primes and were still effective.

If anyone knows how to utilize Ed, it will be Rex. He wont ask him to play a lot of man or ask him to come up in the box to stuff the run every other play, he will let him do what he does best and that's play centerfield which in turn will make his scheme even better anytime you can play Cover 1 taking away the middle of the field. I feel Ed will make a great impact with the Jets.

If he wasn't playing for the money he would of taken what the Ravens offered instead of the larger amount the Texans paid for. IMO

Wow. He doesn't even get the respect of keeping his forever number in NY. Has to wear #22.

Word is that Reed actually turned down the Patriots to go to the Jets.

He's a grown man and if he wants to do the end of his career popping from team to team because his playing days are behind him, so be it. He will still be a first ballot HOF and in the Ravens' ROH when he retires.

Not necessarily true. With Ed IMO, it's more about him feeling like he's still one of the best in the game and he is still very important in the grand schemes of things. He had it on his mind that he wanted a certain price amount for his services not b/c he needs the extra million but b/c of the principal of that matter that he is still very important in the grand scheme of things. It was more of a pride issue and not giving him what he wanted hurt his pride.

Sucks how his career is ending.  Reminds me of Gonzalez.

how so? Ed won a SB and Gonzalez won none...big difference..

I don't mind Ed running around doing some crazy thing cuz he'll end up in Ravens ROH when he retires..

I like Gonzalez's loyalty but he needs to close his chapter with a SB with another team though.....

As if the bridges weren't already singed, Ed Reed put dynamite under them  Telling the "truth" probably cost you a few million, Ed. Money is the reason you left Baltimore in the first place.

He did say he could see himself returning to Baltimore to coach... while passive-aggressively putting down unnamed coaches but anyways... Ask him in a few hours, I'm sure his stream of consciousness will reveal something else.

It's way too awkward to see in #22. I'm waiting for him to retire after this season so that I can buy his jersey again. I'll just pretend that this season didn't happen. Wipe the memory clean.

Wade Phillips replies:

“There’s disappointments in this league and in life,” Phillips said. “And I believe the way you deal with those things tells a lot about what you are and who you are.”

“When we let Ed go, I went down to the training room,” Phillips said. “I looked him right in the eye, shook hands with him and I said, ‘Thank you. … It was an honor to coach a guy that’s going to be in the Hall of Fame and I wish you good luck. The truth is the truth.”

Ed being Ed doesn't sit well with Houstonians.

Reed is such a diva. How could you have beef with Wade Philips, he's the definition of a player's coach and supposedly a really nice guy.

Maybe this has already been answered, but does anyone know if Reed being cut by the Texans affects any possible compensatory draft pick we might have received?

The Ravens most likely won't get one now.

Ed was fried today, as Ozzie knew, the Ravens knew, Texans knew, the guy is too injured to play football and its why we didn't bring him back.

at a glance "fried" looks like "fired"

I was actually going to feel bad for Ed.

Well I already kinda to. :(

Sometimes you just don't know when...  Your head has to tell you when...  The body says no, but his mind still wants it.  It is kinda sad when you think about it.  It would have been so sweet for him to go out with Ray...  They both would have been eligible for the HOF together, and it would have been nice to see them both go into the Ring of Honor together....

Lot's of what ifs...  but I don't think Ed really appreciated how much Baltimore Loved Him.

I dont think that is true.

I think he know full well this is and always will be his home.

I know for a fact I would not have turned down the pay check he was getting from the Texans.

This is true for me as well... because I'm broke quite frankly lol. If you already have millions saved up though? Not sure how Ed was financially, but if I had a nice stack I might think differently.

One of my friends randomly told me that the last game Ed won was the Super Bowl, is this true!?

Correct. Ed didn't play in the first 2 games of the season (Houston won both) and his team(s) have lost every game since. His stats are: 28 tackles, 0 sacks, 0 forced fumbles, 0 interceptions.................where's all the Ozzy doubters now? Still, as a fan, I hope maybe we can work out a league minimum, one game deal so he can retire a Raven.

I'm sure positive when he is ready to retire, the FO will do whatever it takes to see that he retires a Raven. They did something for Mason when he decided he wanted to retire a Raven, you know they will accomodate Reed.

He's bound to win one game right? I mean, the Jets won't really lose out right?

I knew it was time to move on from Reed and I said he would have the same type of season that Mason had after we cut him, but it is still sad to see it.
