AFC Playoff Watch

Is very weak outside of The Powerhouses in Denver and Kanas city. We all know that barring a total collapse, the AFC West will have the 1 and 5 seeds respectively. Outside of that, and with the HUGE win today, the AFC is wide open. The Jets are currently the 6th seed, and I'm not expecting their success to translate into a playoff appearance. The Chargers, Titans, Browns, and Dolphins are the closest competition. IMO, this team is better than all of the 6th seed competitors IF they play to the level of their talent. The Ravens are very fortunate to be 4-5 and still have a legitimate chance of winning the division and hosting Den/KC or making the final wild card spot. The Bengals look to be having their notorious collapse, and this could be an exciting 2nd half if the Ravens come to play from here on out.

I don't even want to think about hosting DEN or KC in the first round.

EDIT: Thinking about it, this might be the time that being the 6th wildcard spot is better than the 4th seed.

Last wild card spot is the Ravens if they want it.  Beat the Dolphins, play the Jets and play the Bengals again.  If they just win, wild card is pretty much guaranteed.  The division is still up for grabs, but a change needs to be made last week on the O-line.

The O line still kind of sucked it up in both run blocking & pass protection this game. It did seem like some of the scheme was more what we used to run last season though. Perhaps we are phasing the new scheme out.

Get outta here with the neg nancy crap!

This is a huge win for this team. Division leading Bengals. I know we like to make fun of the Bengals around here but outside of Dalton, they are a very good football team!

We won people! A must win game and we actually won!

Not only that but we are in a really good position for the Wild card as well. The schedule shapes up really nicely for the Ravens. The Ravens are in the mix right now with teams like the NYJ, Mia, Cincy, Cle, and SD. We still get to play Cincy and NYJ this year.

SD, not counting their game today, has to play 4 teams currently in the playoff hunt in their final 7 games. Den, KC(2), Cincy, and Mia.

Cincy still has Cle, SD, Indy, Pit and the Ravens which should all be tough games.

Mia still has NYJ(2) NE, Pit, SD and a cold weather game at Buf.

Even though they beat us, I still don't by the Browns. But still they have Cincy, Pit(2), NE, NYJ, and a game vs CHI which could be a tie-breaker game with us.

The NYJ have Mia(2), Cle, and the Ravens.

nobody the Ravens included are showing signs of being able to just pull away from the Pack so these last 7 weeks should be interesting.

Detroit, Chicago will be no easy outs. Can't see it the last wild card being "OURS" without a lot of failure from all of the contenders.

It's open, but it will not be easy by any measure.

We have no running game and only one legit ---receiver.

So next week Bengal and browns . Would it be more advantageous to the ravens if the browns or bengals lose. I'm thinking bengals is that correct? I know we still have to win

I just want the Ravens to beat the Bears. Then once that's over, I'll root for them to beat the Jets. I just will root my hardest for them to win the next game up!

No easy at all. Even if we had a 2 game lead it wouldn't be easy the way this team is playing right now.

Where I disagree with you is that the Ravens don't need a lot of failure. No team is really clear cut over the pack so it'll be seemingly touch and go for all teams involved in the wildcard. No counting the Texans who are currently playing, there are 8 teams within 2.5 games of he 6-4 Bengals right now. Even if you removed the 3-6 Steelers and Raiders, that gives you 6 teams within 1.5 games of the Bengals.

Those 6 teams are Ravens, Dolphins, Jets, Browns, Chargers and Titians. Over the next 7 weeks all these teams play each other some play twice.

Then you have the Browns, Ravens, Jets and Titans all at least 2 games back in their divisions with 6-7 to play. So it's not like anyone other then KC and Den are running away with anything. So I agree it'll be wide open, but I wouldn't say the Ravens need failure from other team, in the form of some type of collapse because all the potential wild card teams play each quite a  bit over the next 7 weeks

oh yes every revolves around the Ravens winning games.

if we make the 6th seed we will most likely end up playing @cinci or @indy  in the first round

if we win the division and make the 4th seed we will probably be hosting either Denver or KC,

if things progress the way they have with the other teams, and the ravens somehow manage to win enough games to make 10-6 or 11-5 (doubtful) then Im honestly not feeling too confident about any of the possibilities for the first round. this team just isn't built for that kind of a season right now.

IF we do make the playoffs though, who knows, maybe we get some more flacco magic.

but in all realness, we have no chnce at a repeat with our o-line playing the way it is, ad if we don't have a shot to repeat, then I don't even want the playoffs, we need a good draft pick and we need to nail the first and 2nd rounds with big time players, and we'll most likely end up with another trade back to the 2nd round if we get into the playoffs and get a low pick again.

a excellent draft next season would put us right back into SB contention within a year or 2.

so unless we get super hot and start playing lights out in al 3 phases and blow teams out, then im not even focused on the playoffs. as of now, we are in no way a legit contender, no need to get in depth about it

If our Oline doesn't improve, we will be one and done in the playoffs, if we make it.

Most likely against either the Broncos or Chiefs.

Manning on a cold and icy night at the bank...

or Smith running for his life like he did last time...

as long as we win the division, playing home in the playoffs comes with a better chance

I understand what you are saying and agree with the overall notion that this oline has to improve to have playoff success. But I personally wouldn't definitively say we'd be one and done without that improvement. I actually lean more to the side of the fence that says, "if this oline improves" the Ravens are among the better teams in the AFC.

As bad as this oline is, it's not like the Ravens are getting run out of any stadium. Teams like the Browns, Bengals, Jets, Colts, SD, Mia and the Titans are fighting for playoff spots and we matchup well with all those teams.

So if we are a 6th seed traveling to either play the Colts or Bengals, I wouldn't say that's a definite loss for us. Or if we are able to win the division and get say a 3 seed and host the Chiefs at home. Or the 4th seed hosting the Bengals, Chargers or Browns at home, I wouldn't say that's a definite loss either.

SD looks like they'll lose.  Miami has a chance to lose to TB.  Jets has the 6th seed w/ 5-4.

W'ere right back in the hunt.

beating the Jets in 2 weeks would be huge(with a win against the Bears of course). Having wins against both the Dolphins and Jets would be huge if the Ravens are forced to battle for the 6th seed. Tie breakers are huge

The Jets defense is atleast as good as the Bengals D. This will be a really tough game to win.

Couldn't agree with you guys any more. Not saying the Jets game will be a given. Heck at this point we'd struggle to move the ball against the Jags. But I still like our chances is no other reason then it being a playoff like atmosphere at the Bank. But not easy at all

What about if it somehow ended up as a tie? I know it probably won't happen but this season has been strange anyway

We got lucky with the Titans, Colts, Chargers & Raiders losing today. I'm not one to wish other teams to do horrible but their loses help our chances a lot.

I'm really hoping we go for the division. Especially if Denver gets 5th seed. If we can get the line situation solved (FIRE CASTILLO), then a rematch between Denver and Baltimore IN Baltimore would be awesome.

PS: This is also assuming we have Pitta back for playoffs.

agreed!  our O-line is horrible!  they don't know who to block!  3 of those cats were blocking one defender at times allowing blitzes to get home!  as Charles Barkley would say; "they are just turrrble!"
