Jimmy Smith - Shutdown Corner

325 posts in this topic

Jimmy Smith has played really well this season, especially compared to  previous years. He has blossomed into a great corner back.

Today, he did not give up a memorable reception that I can recall. He consistently broke on the ball and actually turned his head around to impede more passes. I am extremely proud of him.

Dude's playing on fire. He's turned the corner. I loved the fire he showed after the Hail Mary, too.

Same!!!  I was too angry to be happy but it's great that he is showing emotion like that.  He wants to win.

Jimmy was a beast!  I also liked how he got all into Digs face over that botched TD pass at the end of the 4th.  love the kids fire and passion!  now we are getting somewhere defensively!

I never thought Jimmy Smith was a bad cornerback, but this year he's been really impressive. In fact, all the DBs had an impressive day today, but Smith has shown up in every game. Very glad that he has worked out for us, he will soon become a shut down corner.

He had a good game, but would still like see him improve tracking the ball.  Don't like seeing him consistently falling either.

Yes, I hope all you people who have bashed Jimmy despite his good plays eat that humble pie! If not I'll shove it down your throat because Jimmy has been playing great! Anyone still want to just give Matt Elam his jersey? I seem to recall some people saying we should have Jimmy give him his jersey because of the special meaning to Matt.

Oh. Yeah, Sami84 is he still a bad pick???

I really liked the pick when we drafted him.  However, I was ready to give up on him this season.  I'm prepared to eat my words with a fork and a knife.  I'm glad he has stepped it up big time.  besides the slip on the long pass, this was probably his best game in a ravens uniform.

I wonder how much sooner he'd have been playing like this had he not gotten hurt so much.

Lets move him because A.J had 158 yards today. Even if freak catches they should have never happened.

Webb was actually on Green 90% of the time, so...

not to take credit, but I am one of the few ppl who would always stick by Jimmy. His size and athletic ability are as good as it gets at the cb position. Hes making good progress with his technique and ball awareness. I would still like to see him keep his balance. Jimmy and Matt elam need to take ballerina classes together.

Weren't a lot of those yards due to major chunk plays where I saw Elam or Ihedigbo covering Green? I didn't see Jimmy covering Green on those catches he made.

He was worth the pick alone for that Super Bowl play, we wouldn't have won without it.

I'm so glad someone else remembers this play. My personal Superbowl moment.

Shutdown corner? I disagree.  Shutdown corner is reserved for the elite CB.  The last CB we had in that category was Chris McAlister.  Smith is getting better this year, but he's not a shutdown corner.  Webb has a better chance of reaching that status.  Smith still has a lot of work to do.

two big catches were both on ihedigbo, the two balls he tipped into the air. That was two catches for at least 100 yards
