Flop or Float?

Bad teams don't get the first crack at good players if the good teams are smart enough to trade highly overrated players for high draft picks.  Rememeber recent trades of a 1st and 3rd round pick for a pretty big-name player who wasn't nearly as good as his name?

Just imagine the draft picks the Ravens COULD have gotten for Ray Rice or Joe Flacco before this year.  And instead of trading Boldin for a 7th round pick to the 49ers.... I'm sure almost any other team would have taken a veteran receiver that just went on that crazy Super Bowl run and given more than a 7th.  So we're helping out Harbaugh's family now at the cost of the team?  That's nice.

Boldin was traded for a 6th round pick.  All reports indicated that the only other team interested was the Vikings, who offered a 7th.

Ergo, we got the best deal possible for a player 2 teams wanted at his pay roll.  Not what his ability indicates, but what his ability dictated his monetary value.  You continue to ignore this fact.

But I like your family nepotism conspiracy.  Its entertaining.

I guess the real benefit to losing this season would be not having to play the top teams like the Broncos/Patriots/Indianapolis next year. Obviously we'll play one of them, but not all of them.

Still a very good chance for the Ravens to lose 3 or 4 more games. Sure, they could end up winning out too. But I think they will end up disappointing you and ending up right around 8-8, exactly in that Dallas Cowboys area of execution. I suppose since the rest of the division is not that good.... the Ravens could get in on some ridiculous 3-team tiebreaker. I'm hoping for all 4 teams to end up tied just for fun.

I had that thought about a possible "softer" schedule.... But then I thought about past seasons it always seemed like no matter what our record was we always got Manning or Brady or both scheduled nearly every year due to Ravens D vs Top QB ( tv ratings ) and most of the games the defense played great most of the game our offense kicked FGs and we'd lose because of the inability to score a single TD. I went on a rant there but I've always found The Ravens scheduling quite curious and odd how we seemed to play Indy(w/Manning) or Patriots every year ( or how manning vs Brady every year in regular season ) as if the teams were division opponents lol.

People talking about Tanking is just ridiculous. No team in the nfl can purposely tank. they either stink or they don't. They get miscues and unlucky bounces and breaks, no team goes out with the intentions of losing.

It wouldn't be smart to want to tank anyway because it would develop a losers mentality that could carryover for years to come.

Doubtful, but id rather get to the play off.

Kinda sick of seeing, the whole " OZZIE CAN DO NO WRONG " because to me, thats all he has done with these number 1 draft picks in the last few yrs.

Who was the last Number 1 pick that worked out aside from FLACCO  in the last 10yrs or so. The last person i can think of is NGATA And SUGGS.

jimmy smith has become the 2nd best player on our defense. Courtney Upshaw has played pretty darn good,  and its not just about the top picks, its about finding bang for your buck, the fact that he found webb, Arthur jones, pernell McPhee, marshal yanda, ray rice, dennis pitta, paul kruger, torrey smith, and all the other picks that happened outside of the first round, is just phenomenal. don't let a super bowl hangover cloud your judgement, ozzie is a draft genius, and he tries his hardest to find talent picking in the final 6 picks year in and year out, and id have to say, even without finding instant sure fire superstars, hes still doing a damn good job.

its also a cardinal rule of evaluating draft classes: give them 3 years to pan out. aside from the Sergio kindle class, id say ozzie has been stellar in the harbaugh era.

Problem is if they grab the last WC spot....big whoop in a bad WC race. This team if it got to the WC game cant win on the road anyway for 1 game vs bad teams much less playoff games, so whats the point? Rather have worse récord and drsft top 15 then get last WC spot and pick in the 20s.

it's a matter of pride, to be oneof 12 out of 32 teams to at least get a crack at the big dance is something (to me).  plus it would be 6 years in a row and it would likely keep all these other "pretenders" form the playoffs in the process (i'm thinking steelers, raider, titans, chargers, dolphins, etc). yeah, we likely won't win on the road in a wildcard playoff round but at least we got there.  (and who knows, anything can happen in a game, are you really afraid of the chiefs? i'm not, i don't care what their record states).

The same Chiefs that should've beat us last year on a Flacco fumble, but there was a lucky flag on the play?  The Chiefs who picked first in the draft and are now 9-1?  The Chiefs are a solid team and very tough to beat at home.  I'm not saying we can't win, but you're kind of talking down a pretty good team who's been able to do what we can't, WIN GAMES.

i guess i'm just not convinced by them.  i feel like they've gotten lucky thus far with their defense and playing some faiirly mediocre teams.  they're not in the same league as the broncos, seahawks, saints, or even patriots.  i'll gladly eat crow if they can beat the broncos at arrowhead, however.

I agree with you to a point . I still don't see this team tanking the season .I get why Ozzie picks like he does but wouldn't for once it be fun to get the next Calvin Johnson or a beast Lt or Ngata's replacement (no I don't think Cody is it ).

Couldn't agree with you more about Cody.I really like our WR corps moving forward. Guys like Deonte Thompson and Marlon Brown are still raw but look to have incredible upside. Tandon Doss is starting to resemble who we all hoped he could be and Torrey is constantly getting better. Depending on what the Pitta situation is at years end, we might need another TE. Dallas Clark is too old and slow, Dickson is miserable.

What has Boldin done for the 49ers though? Not much except collect good money. Money he's not worth anymore. We cleared cap space and got a few productive veteran players to help solidify the Defense while Boldin has exactly 3 TD catches this year. Nepotism obviously runs on BOTH sides of the Harbaugh fence. Oh and we also got a draft pick from the deal too which we could use to package another deal.

Also, if you were to trade Flacco who exactly would be our quarterback? Please don't say Troy Smith
