Week 10 Ravens Injury Updates

Looking more and more like likely that Jimmy Smith (groin strain) will not be available vs. the Bengals Sunday

How do we stop AJ Green if Jimmy is unable to go?  Webb has been having a down year, and probably doesn't have the size to contest Green on a regular basis.  We've all seen how Graham plays, and he's missed some practice time with injury as well.

That leaves Chykie Brown and Asa Jackson.  Do we really want Brown on Green?  He's incredibly streaky, and has had a grand total of 18 defensive snaps this year.  And then we have Asa, who looked great in the preseason, but doesn't have near enough size to contest a monster like Green.

It sounds weird to have the possibility of missing our top CB, and it not be Webb.  If he is unable to go, it will play a huge part in the outcome of the game.

Not to mention, they have some other red zone targets in Marvin Jones and Mo Sanu.  They also have a quick playmaker in Andrew Hawkins.  I'm worried about our secondary this week if Jimmy can't go.

Jimmy's groin again? That's been an issue before, I believe.

Webb has matched up to Green in past years, I believe. He's having a down year but he will probably see him again. The Bengals have a lot of tall receivers in Green, Sanu, and Jones so he might not have a favorable size matchup - outside of a guy like Hawkins.

In year's past. I'd have no problem with Webb on Green.  The struggling Webb that we've seen so far this year scares me, though.

Size is a legitimate concern all around.  Even though he's only 5'11, Chykie has some length to him.  At the end of the day though, he's still Chykie Brown.

We don't.

If Jimmy can't play then that's a major blow. The only way around it is to cause ridiculous pressure to Dalton where he's forced to get rid of the ball quickly. But being without Jimmy is a major blow to the secondary. I really hope he's okay.

we have to get pressure, just have too

We need to get pressure. Period. That's our only hope.

Ding ding ding.  That's no east task in itself, either.  The past few weeks we've been getting pressure, but can't seem to get the QB down.  That needs to change.

We must stop the run. That's where it'll start for this game. We must..Ngata has to play great this game. He can't afford to play bad. If we can stop the run then we can force them to pass and make our pass rushers' jobs easier.

We stop the run this game becomes significantly easier. We'll need to be creative with Upshaw and use him to rush from the interior. He seems to generate pressure there. I'd like to see Dumervil and Suggs used more with their hands in the dirt this game as well.

I'm hoping Omar Brown generates some turnovers like he's done in the preseason and hopefully Arthur Brown can be matched up against Tyler. I think I'd prefer a 4-3 primary base to our defense this game.

Yep.  They've found a pretty good RB in Gio, so that's no easy task.  He's small and elusive, but pretty easy to bring down if you get yours hand on him.

I expect to see a lot of Upshaw holding the edge in addition to playing inside.  He's sort of been the unsung hero, for lack of a better description, this year.  He does all of the dirty work.

Lastly, I expect to see quite a few 3 safety sets with Elam moving up into the nickel at times.  Hopefully that means Omar Brown gets some time in there.  Even if it doesn't work out, I want to see him get some playing time on D.

As quick as I posted, he's back at practice. Doesn't mean he'll be playing, but it's a positive sign.

Jeff Zrebiec@jeffzrebiecsun7m

Terrell Suggs (foot), Daryl Smith (thigh), Brandon Stokley (thigh) and Jimmy Smith (groin) were all practicing for #Ravens.

That's great. I was going to say he might tough it out because this could be our season. I'm sure Jimmy knows the stakes. If he can play I think he will. I have the utmost confidence in him.

With that said, regardless of his status we must get pressure and finish pressure on Dalton. We need sacks, fumbles, interceptions.

I'd like to see a lot of Brandon Williams. I know I read the article that Ngata prefers NT but I'd like to see a lot of three man fronts this game with Jones, Williams and Ngata. I love Brandon's strength and I think he could collapse the pocket.

I'd also like to see four man fronts with McPhee, Williams, Ngata and Suggs with Upshaw and Jones sprinkled in there with a LB corps of Upshaw, Smith, and Brown at weak side.

Edit: by the way, no mention of Corey Graham. Looks like he could be the one to sit..

If Jimmy misses this week, that might be game right there. He's rounded into a very solid corner, and none of our other corners top 6 feet. I'm not even sure getting pressure will be enough.

I think the key is getting off to a fast start, offensively. We NEED to get the crowd behind us - this might be the most important game of the year, and with a quick lead, the crowd could generate lots of noise and possibly rattle Dalton... some quick blitzes, some intensity and momentum - it feeds off itself, the defense gets aggressive and fired-up, if we get a quick lead, get a turnover, get a sack or two early.

Flacco MUST be hot early...

Since I see the title has changed, I have to ask, why is Stokley still here?

He's been hurt for weeks, and even if/when he comes back, he's not going to get any snaps over Jones, Brown, Doss, or Thompson.  He doesn't play ST either, so is this not a wasted roster spot?  I can understand if they want to keep him around for his experience and ability to teach the younger guys, but couldn't he do that if we placed him on IR?  I'm really just wondering here.  I'd rather have another OL, DL, or TE in his place.

If I had to bet I think he's sticking around until Dennis Pitta returns at the very least. Also, you never know if a WR could get hurt so if we cut him and someone gets hurt then we're possibly in trouble again.

I think he has to be the first guy off the roster when the need comes at this point.  He's not healthy enough to play, and even if he does get to 100%, he's not going to see any snaps.  I think having Bajema on the roster would have been more beneficial over the past few weeks, to be honest.

Williams was brutal last week. Its too early to be overly concerned, but he has not looked the part as of yet.
