Houston Benches Ed Reed

"The team still lists him as a starter but against the Colts it was D.J. Swearinger and Shiloh Keo who started the game at safety, neither had ever started an NFL game coming into this season. Meanwhile, Reed was used almost exclusively as the third safety in the dime package."

Just sad. Release him already Houston! I'm sure he'd come here to play out his time and retire a Raven. Not to mention, they already told him there would be a coaching position here for him.

I hated to see it when it happened to Mason. It is just doubly sad to watch Reed go through it.

yeah, really wanted him to stay one more year with us as player-coach on a good-for-both-sides kind of contract and move to full coaching our DBs the year after... ohh well

Smart move for Houston. Having Reed play as a third safety or in obvious passing situations might be the best way to use him.

And maybe they are trying to give their young guys time and experience so they develop, since their season is effectively done. Might as well develop their young guys.

We could actually use Reed back here in B-More. I just don't think his heart is in it down in Houston. If we brought him back, he would fill in at FS, and let Elam play his natural position at SS. This, of course, depends on if Houston cuts him, which I don't see happening.

I agree with you .If nothing else he could help or secondary improve which is desperately needed right now .

Only thing he would bring to Baltimore is the ability to communicate with the guys on the back-end... otherwise, he's finished.

They're saving him for the playoffs.

So much for that theory lol. I'm sure that was their original intent but this season has gone wrong for them.

Just release him and let him come back here.

Bringing Ed back would be huge for our team, maybe not talent wise, but experience wise. Plus, he's more of a FS than Elam is, at this point in Elam's very short career.

I said it in another thread, but I think it's pretty clear that his heart isn't in the game anymore.  He wanted that one last payday.

I respect his decision....He knew his time was up and he was due for one final payment opportunity from something he's invested blood sweet and future health into. Realistically I'd have done the same, if you've worked that hard for something might as well squeeze every dollar you can out of it.

I agree. an honoray contract to retire in purple and he can coach up our young guys at the same time.

BEEN RELEASED.  Can we get him back her for a min or something.  Don't care much for the player, but as a player/coach his knowledge could help all the youth on this team and feel it would be a boost to some guys morale in the locker room.
