Terrell Suggs Current Pace

30 posts in this topic

Randomly looking up guys play this year and came across Suggs tonight, while admittedly knowing how many sacks he had I was taken back by his total tackles through 8 games for an OLB.

Suggs currently has 60 total tackles and 9 sacks.  His half a year pace puts him for 120 tackles as an OLB.  His previous career high is 70.  I've never seen an OLB top 100 to be honest and since its in all likelihood of happening what in the heck does that even mean in terms of our defense?  Outside the fact that Suggs is an animal.

In terms of our overall defense, it means that the rest of the front seven is sucking.

Thats kind of what I was figuring, I'd just never seen it before so I didn't even know the conclusion to draw.  Especially when Suggs is generally making tackles under 4 yards from the LOS.

Means nothing except that Suggs is a beast.  Our D-line is actually solid.  Our secondary can't do jack.  If they could cover just a little better then the sack numbers would rise a lot.

Just watch some of these games.  Qb's are getting the ball off way too quickly because of how poor the coverage is.  It's embarrassing.  Our only hope is that Webb returns to his pre-injury form and that Asa turns out to be a stud and takes over for Graham.  Jimmy is the only guy looking good.

Also we need a real FS.  Nothing against Elam, but we have two guys out there who specialize in Run defense and hitting rather than coverage.  I'd rather have someone who can cover at FS and rotate Ihedigbo and Elam.

He is going for dpoy . I never realized he was that good this year . the secondary has been so bad I have been watching them and not paying attention. The only problem I have with Asa is he going to stay clean next suspension is a year .

Considering he's said that the most recent suspension was a paperwork error, and the people who assigned the suspension haven't contested it, I'm going to assume he's learned his lesson.

I used to think the same way about James Harrison when he was a  steeler in which he had 101 tackles and 10.5sacks in 2010

If it was an error it would have been overturned suspensions are overturned and shortened all the time. But I get your point he needs to get himself together .he does contribute to the team when he plays

Shame its a wasted season. Suggs might not be quite as good next year and will at the age of 32 start declining. You can tell he put everything into this year.

He is looking pretty dang good right now. Why would he get DPOY though. There are other players making big plays on teams that are winning. Like Tamba Hali.

Wow. You never miss an opportunity to put a negative spin on something, do you? Even if Suggs starts noticeably declining next season, he'll still be among the best rush LBs in the game.

I've had my doubts about suggs but he is a complete OLB , not just a rush linebacker, he plays the run just as well as rushing.

Are they making big plays or dominating? A dominant player deserves to be in the discussion. If the DOMINANT player plays on a good squad, then my all means he deserves it.

I'd even say he plays the run better than rushing. He is having an absolutely ridiculous season. The problem as others have alluded to is the lack of support at the back end. Webb has not been the same and our safeties have been struggling in coverage.

Suggs is an absolute beast, and even if we didn't make the playoffs, if he continues his sack production, he will be in the discussion for DPOY. He is an all star and his name doesn't take a winning team to stick out.

His run defense has been superb, his sack numbers ridiculous, and he is even able to cover. Worth every penny.

Suggs is a beast. His leadership is clearly showing up on the stats and the field.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure Lavonte David topped 100 tackles last year. Just saying. Not in no way shape or form discounting what Suggs is doing.

suggs isn't even schemed into the playbook as a rush linebacker. he drops into zone, contains, and covers the flats just as much as he blitzes, he just makes the most out of his rushing snaps. if he came in as a pure pass rusher and had no other responisbilities to worry about, he just might lead the league in sacks.

David plays in a 4-3. It's much more common for 4-3 OLBs to rack up tackles than 3-4 OLBs.

Alright, makes sense.

Interesting, been a fan of his for the longest time but never knew that he was charged with responsibilities regularly than stopping the run and rushing the passer. This just shows how great of a year he is having.

I'm going to have to disagree slightly here. He rushes a vast majority of his passing down snaps similar as any 3-4 OLB and based on his percentage of snaps he is not quite as productive as some others in that area. That doesn't take away from his incredible season though.

if its an obvious passing situation, of course hes going to rush, but you see him covering any screen that comes his way, and ive seen him make quite a few plays on the ball on shallow out routes and things like that. basically, it seems like his job is to get to the ball the best way possible, whether it be a sack, contain, or coverage. I wouldn't be surprised if pees just told suggs do ur thing on every snap, hes that type of player.
