Matt Elam not playing like he did with Florida

CSN Baltimore reported that Brown was called up for his (exceptional) work on special teams - Harbaugh was really pissed at the kickoff return at the end of the Steeler game...

I don't know. I don't always believe what the media says because I don't trust the sources to always tell them the truth. I thought Omar looked good on ST but he wasn't a standout. He was more impressive on defense than anything. I guess we'll see as we have no way of knowing yet but I think there's a good chance we'll see Omar at FS with some looks with Elam and Ihedigbo splitting time at SS.

I agree and it does say something for Omar to see time on defense while guys like Jeremy Miles and Anthony Levine haven't

College is not as easy as the NFL. Totally different levels. It's always a roll of the dice in all honesty in the draft. Like Tom Brady for example. But let me say that its still early for him to be judged. It's his rookie year.

He needs to play SS and play close to the line of scrimmage that is where he belongs.

Not to mention, the rest of our team is lacking intensity. When I watch these guys play I see little passion/heart. Nobody is ready to step up and make plays. Just call it like I see it...

We got caught with our pants down this year with the Pitta injury, Boldin trade and vet losses. I hope we get a nice draft spot and pick up a natural FS/DT. Snatching Eric Ebron in the 2nd would make me a happy raven.

Cleats needs to step it up big time in this game for us to improve.

The confidence here in him is severely shaken, but IF he is going to be an asset to the Ravens this is the game he Must show it.

It's now or never. He steps up today and plays up to the level of his selection in the draft or he is forever persona non grata and a wasted pick.

You read it here first.

Game 9 is make or break for a rookie? Got it.

I applaud the kid for trying not to be a 'thumper' like he was at Florida. That type of player gets his team in trouble. Overall I've been disappointed with him so far though.

He looked pretty good today, from what I saw. Had a clutch pass deflection that got the ball picked by Digs.

Dalton threw the worst pass of theday...elam was actualy beaten but daltons pass was wayward. If dalton hita simple pass..elam would have given up a big play.

You'll find anything to hate on the guy.

Actually he had great coverage but pulled up to make a play on the throw.  You should really leave these forums.  All you do is spread unjustified hate and make things up

The sad thing is, that statement can be applied to nearly half of our users. Sucks!

Yeah, has become a little rough around here these days. There needs to be an aptitude or IQ test in order to register here. Or just simply wake up in the morning.

So true ^.  You can get in trouble for mentioning it but there have been a huge influx of negative posters since the Super Bowl win.  I'm tired of reading unjustified statements about players and coaches.  We used to have one of the smartest boards until recently.

I think Elam played okay. He wasn't good but he wasn't bad. Average I'd say with one very nice deflection that caused Ihedigbo to get a pick.

He's a rookie learning how to play in the NFL. Give him a break.

I think he will be ok, I just question the decision to draft a SS as the first round pick this year.

I stand by the decision. Elam provides versatility. He hasn't been terrible at FS despite not being a natural. I think that should be considered.

But Grim, he has to play at an elite level from the get go or else he isn't NFL caliber!

Playing in the NFL should be EASY.

We use him in the most ridiculous ways.  On Ihedigbo's second pick he was in man coverage with Green in the slot.  How that isn't an automatic audible I have no idea.  Posters here would have ripped him if Green caught that ball, even though it's a friggen SS on the second best WR in the league.

Don't forget he also has to wear really high cleats to get to 5'10"  :eyes:

Here's the thing. Elam is not taking Ihedigdo's spot. Diggs is a man.

Elm will have it passed to him. And we defiitnitely need a starting caliber FS.

Im no expert but heres my take on Elam. If Webb gets back in form him and Jimmy will hold down the CB spots. From there we have to find someone to play FS and move Elam to SS where he can help with the run defense. That combined with the pass rush could improve the defense enough.
