Suggs and Rice MIA for Interviews After the Loss

I know this loss stings these guys!  I don't play and just watching it stings me!  And, I know that no one wants a mic in their face after a loss like this....coming off nearly a 2 week bye.  However, I really wanted to hear from these two men afterwards.  I was very disappointed that neither of them (as Ravens veterans) along with Torrey (I believe) didn't step up to the plate and "own" this debacle or to give any words of some kind of encouragement to the players, organization and we fans.  smh!

I know what you're saying and agree. Perhaps there's another side to it. I don't know. I'd love to hear what they were thinking and maybe someone here has an idea they'd love to share.

I will say that Suggs being the apparent leader of the defense and skipping the interviews is a bit disappointing to say the very least.

Maybe they just didn't feel like talking to the media... That's their prerogative. You know they'd own it. I've heard Suggs, on numerous occasions, own up to losses. I remember the last time we lost to the Browns, if I remember correctly, Suggs literally said, "We got our asses handed to us."

They don't have to say anything. Ray skipped interviews too. Are you gonna call him out? No? Didn't think so! I didn't realize that skipping interviews hurt your credibility as a leader... Smh.

That's a good perspective. I won't disagree with that. I don't recall Lewis skipping interviews but that could be because I never looked for it. Obviously, Suggs and others are under higher scrutiny due to Lewis' absence and the spotlight on this supposed void of leadership.

Well I'll say it.

Leaders don't slink out of locker rooms after losses. Period. It doesn't sit well with me at all.

I don't recall Ray Lewis ever being absent for an interview after a game.

Sorry, Flacco stood up there and took it and owned it. I expect no less from Ray Rice & Suggs.

No one likes it but these are not only supposed to be men, but the veteran leaders of this team.

Rice did this before when we lost to Seattle two years ago and he got the ball only 5 times. It was obvious he was upset and wouldn't have said anything helpful to the media. I think this is the case here. I think I like this better than the alternative of them going on camera and making headlines with a negative statement. Would you rather have a headline "Rice doesn't talk to the media after the game" or "Rice bashes Castillo and the playcalling in postgame press conference"?

well it wasnt suggs fault. hes been playing lights out all year. he told everyone that we were in a state of emergency. no one took him serious. and now his chance of dpoy is pretty much ruined. id be pissed and leave too!

Oh please. This board would erupt in flames from all the negativity if Flacco dared to do such a thing. They are adults, you conduct yourself like one. Just like every other average person not making millions at their job when they have a bad day or disagree with their boss.

Don't really expect much of anything from Ray Rice nowadays. Stinks on the field, pouts on the sidelines. He's been really bad from the 2012 playoffs into this season.

You have a point here. Not just this forum but the entire media would erupt with how Flacco "isn't a leader" and how he "is embarrassed because of his contract" and how he's probably "too busy spending all that money to do an interview" and etc.

It's a shame. I'm not sure what happened to him. It wasn't a gradual drop-off, from what I saw. It was all of a sudden. It's strange. He's still a great guy but great guys and great players are different.

At least Suggs played. Ngata and Rice, pretty sad

Not sure what game you watched. Sizzle was handled after his one early sack. And Ngata played well against the browns. Rice has sucked forever..

So why do you think they didn't show up?

I will say Ngata had a better game this game than others he played this year. He stopped the run but he was going against McGahee, and that's not some great RB. He played well against the Browns last game as well, I thought? I'm more concerned with how he plays when there are better RBs there. Granted, he went up against Mack and he's a beast.

He was blowing people up on the line and eating up blocks. I think it was more a product of resting injuries than playing the browns.

Sizzle and Dumervil were mostly MIA.

I think its obvious why they didn't show.

Rice has been crap all season and again that game. Suggs was handled after his early sack. But you man up and handle it. You don't run from the heat.

Not sure. Wear and tear, didn't/hasn't stepped up as a leader, lost confidence, upset that Pierce gets more touches, etc. Don't know for sure. All I know is that he is not the Ray Rice we've grown accustom to seeing on or off the field.

If it's mental, he needs to get his mojo back and step up. It's downright embarrassing. If it's physical then, well, he may never be back to what he was.

Like Momma says

" If you cant say any thing nice dont say any thing at all "

I respect Rice and Sizzle, for taking the high road.

Let them do their talking behind closed doors where it would be most effective.

We'll see this week if Ngata continues to play the same. So far it's primarily the Browns I've seen this kind of effort and probably the Texans.

I think that, too, like when he invited him back to do a pregame

At least they didn't say anything they would regret. It's a frustrating time, especially for them. What can Rice really say?

I agree, if I was playing, I would be VERY upset with the losses and I'm the type of guy that doesn't like to talk at all while I'm upset because I'd want to lash out when I shouldn't, so I never do

I'm fine with them missing it, it's just an interview

I'm not disagreeing per se, but if anything has been said behind closed doors doesn't seem to have been effective so far

I for one would prefer the latter. Maybe not as radical as you stated. But something to show us fans that there is still some fire left in our team and players. Have you seen some of the interviews with Suggs lately? He looks dejected. And that's not the T-Sizzle full of swagger that we are all accustomed to...

I agree with the OP on this. It was disappointing that two of the so-called leaders of the team went AWOL from the post-game interviews. It reinforced what Ray Lewis said about leadership. Who are the leaders? On the other hand, I think it speaks volumes about the "State of the Ravens." It may suggest that they have learned thru experience that it is better to keep quiet than to say something they may regret. I think the HC has set the tone for not openly criticizing the team. Sometimes, dissent can be healthy. Look what Dez Bryant's outbursts did for the Cowboys. He lit a fire under somebody's ... . I suspect the beatings will continue until the morale improves. The players for whom I feel sorriest are the newcomers who came here with high expectations of their own, only to see an organization ready to push the panic button. Its time for the coaches to put their heads together and come up with a game plan that will serve the Bengals some more humble pie and quiet the arm-chair QBs like us.

Man please!  Didn't I say in my post that I know no one wants a mic in their face after losses like this?  I see that reading comprehension was wasted in your hasty response!  Neither did I say anything about them skipping the interview showing a lack of leadership credibility on their part cause that's not my issue with them in this scenario but it must be yours cause you brought it up!  Smh!

Never did understand why media needs a comment minutes after a game when emotions can be sky high/low after a loss.

Of course after a win it's pretty much no issue but after a bitter loss I don't want to talk to anybody either. Anybody who played in a very competitive sport would understand this.
