Let's address the ZBS being implemented

5 posts in this topic

Ok knowledgeable Ravens fans, let's address this ZBS scheme that is being pushed down the players throats.

ZBS, when executed correctly can work so well that it can make a undersized line look like world beaters. With that in mind, why is it not working for the Ravens?

I will say that the first thing three problems I see are :

1) Missed responsibility of the secondary line blocker to chip the lineman and go to the next level to block the linebacker coming to attack the runner.

2) Zero. None. No movement parellel to the path that the RB is set to follow. This style of zone blocking is non-existent in our current scheme.

3) No cut blocking being implemented to slow the defensive aggressive push. An effective cut block helps when you can't get square with your block as well. We cut block very well in the first year implementation of ZBS. What happened?

I think these issues are 100 coaching. I think the coaching was probably focused too much on footwork, and less on movement and read/react. When you can't see the fruits of your labor, you will not buy in! I think Castillo probably focuses of the micros and not the macro. This is a MAJOR mistake coaches and management in every business does, because the big picture is missed.

I think Harbs is a detail, minutia guy - with that, I'm willing the bet if this is the case, he prizes and the guy that can present in this manner. Castillo is that guy. I think that the both of them can't grasp the larger problem.

What say you?
