Calm Down

To open up a brand new "Positive Thread" of sorts, I'm gonna be negative.

The Season is probably over and we are playing for a top 15 pick. But if you look at it all, we aren't sucking cause we don't have the talent. Ozzie and Harbaugh are not the problem. Do they get some of the blame? Yes, but they are not the problem. Same goes for Flacco, who played like crap in the first half.

You want to know why we really suck? There's three reasons we suck.

1. Lack of experience

Gino. Had little experience before this season

Doss, Tomphson, Brown. Had little to no in game experience when it came to playing.

Monroe. Has little experience with the team.

The rookies. Not too much experience.

We lost Birk, Ray Lewis, Reed, Boldin to FA.

I've thought long and hard about Gino. I'm gonna wait till next season to decide if he's truly a liability. He's young, he gets a pass FOR NOW.

Doss screwed up big time today, but he looked solid on otherplays

Tomphson looked good.

Brown looks like he's gonna be a contributor for years to come.

Monroe played okay today.

We have a lot of youth on the team now. These guys were thrown into the fire, and some of them are playing... Well young.

I'm not too mad about this. Gino should get better moving forward.

2. Injuries

Yanda

Pierce

Rice

Brown

Stokley

Pitta

Jimmy Smith

KO

Oher

Jones

Art

Webb

Have all been injured at some point this season. That's 3/5 of the oline, and we were without a starter. KO hasn't been playing like a superstar, but we missed him tonight. He's >>>>>>> Shiply.

Yanda doesn't look like himself, and I would be ok with letting Oher go....

Rice doesn't look like himself either.

3. There is some blame to be had on the coaching staff.

Castillo and Pees need to go. The D can't keep blowing leads like that, and our Oline, for how much talent is there, is PATHETIC.

So how do we solve these pressing issues?

1. Fire pees
2. Fire Castillo
3. Hire a new oc and get Caldwell to be QB coach again.
4. GET HEALTHY
5. Get experience
6. Draft a playmaker
7. Draft a CB

Reality is, that we are a TALENTED team. There is No refuting that whatsoever.

It's also important to realize that we have only 2 major needs position wise.

Flacco needs another weapon.

And Corey Graham flat out SUCKS. We need another CB.

The good thing is, even if we fail to make the playoffs this season, our guys get valuable NFL experience.

That's not a bad thing at all, but it still sucks to lose.

At this point, it looks like we will have a top 15 pick.

We'll have at least 7 picks. With not too many needs positional wise to go with it(Weapon, CB, maybe FS, maybe RT).

Weapon because

1. Pitta is hurt.

2. Brown, Doss, and Tomphson have played well, but we don't have a legit GAME CHANGER next to Torrey Smith.

And anyone who thinks Harbaugh and Ozzie are the problem... No. Just no.

Ozzie has actually provided talent. Harbaugh, as much as I hate to hear the guy at his press conferences, did get us to a SB, and got us 5 winning seasons in a row. He's highly regarded by his peers. He's not succeeding this season, but he's not the problem.

CB. Graham sucks, and Webb playing hurt.

So what are we in. A situation where there is talent present and we aren't winning? It's called

Youth Movement.

Mark my words, we will be a good team next year. By next year, Ozzie will make it top priority to get another playmaker for Joe, and get more help on the defense. We will have probably fired Pees, and Castillo is rumored to be gone after this season. Our young guys will have more experience, and we will still have a nice corp of the team that have been to the SB before, and know how to get there.

We might lose Smith, Art, Jacoby, in FA, but all three of those guys are actually replaceable.

Ngata could move back to end and Williams to NT.

Return men can be found anywhere. He was good, and charismatic but Jacoby is replaceable.

Smith? We can find another MLB in the draft. I like Arthur Brown.

Ozzie has set this team up for the future. By next year, we should be healthy again with an improved oline, probably new weapons, and a new DC.

Going forward we are not in bad shape.

The team will probably continue to struggle through this because of the lack of experience and the injuries and whatnot, and it's gonna be bad. But SUCK IT UP.

It's a game. Get over it.

While I agree with most of this, I think Castillo needs to be fired before season's end. Also, I think Daryl Smith should be a priority re-signing for Ozzie. He's been a pleasant surprise and the QB of the defense and with his age and past injury, he shouldn't be expensive like Ellerbe.

Smith, as good as he's been, will probably be in our price range.....

Either that or he is replaceable.

I agree with everything but firing Pees and demoting Caldwell; those two aren't the problems.

I actually don't think Caldwell is a problem, I just think we could do better. He's a good guy to have on the team though. He's been a good QB coach for Flacco whether you want to admit it or not.

Our coaching staff is the problem. Simple as that. You can sing all the love songs you want defending them, but they are the root of all evil in Baltimore. With the AFC being so weak we still have a chance. Likely? Absolutely not, but the chance is still there. But nothing will change if nothing changes from within.

I disagree. I think they are part of the problem. Absolutely. Caldwell is efficient but he's not spectacular by any means and the calls that have been called are very predictable. Perhaps he's not to blame, but the onus is on him as far as I can see because he's titled the OC and the offensive plays called have been poor at times. It's absolutely part player execution, but part of the blame is absolutely on his shoulders. There's no question.

As for Dean Pees, he can't tackle and he can't communicate on the field but it's his unit. It's his guys. I know what he's trying to do but the thing that frustrates me here is that some of the schemes are poorly disguised. Also, it's strange to me that both years he's the DC our run defense has been uncharacteristically bad. I know Ngata has been Ngataround, but even with his play it's just strange. Also, I don't see a lot of stunts from the defensive linemen. I rarely see twists and stuff of that nature. He's just not creative with the personnel. I don't mind it, but we had a chance to upgrade this position with Horton and we didn't.

Before you call me out on having 20/20 hindsight, I'd like to say I was strongly for signing Horton for DC when he was fired. I just think that Pees is good but I believe we can have better coordinating from the position. Then again, I'm not sure if we don't have a Juan Castillo in Steve Spagnuolo in terms of our defense. Who knows if he's trying to do crazy stuff that's contrary to the DC and it's causing confusion. Perhaps that's the problem. I honestly don't know. All I know is something needs to change yesterday.

Time to lay off gino try watching him he is improving . Brown is a legitimate game changer . Last year when the talk was this team needed to get younger , op included , I mentioned that a young inexperienced team plays EXACTLY like this at that time most disagreed with me ...hate to say I told you so but ,,,. Pees sucks he doesn't know how to coach that much I agree with , bend don't break works about as well as the zbs not at all .Castillo and pees need to go but odds are they are not going anywhere so get used to it . steelers game man to man blocking worked we have a bye come back and zbs again and failure again . this team is going to be fine even if we have a losing season we still have a chance but if we see that same lame blocking scheme op is correct this season is over .

Can I also point out that we see struggles with this team every year -- and that our team isn't the only one that has obstacles in-season?

Even the more glamorous teams struggle. Why? Because *gasp* everyone is human. Shocking, I know.

I'm not saying I advocate a defeatist attitude with an acceptance of mediocrity. Rather, I won't let a child's game get me worked up. It's entertainment. And, if you watch enough football, you know that the story of any season isn't written until the final whistle is blown on the final game, wherever that particular team's journey may end.

Football is inherently emotional, so I won't dismiss people who feel strongly about this team in both victory and defeat.

What bothers me is when the venting turns into outright venom.

Too easily, people forget that these players are still human beings. They may have larger bank accounts, but their pay is relative to the business in which they work and the market value for their trade. They still have families, and ultimately, these losses affect the players way more than they affect us.

At the end of the day, some fans need to learn to check their vitriol at the door and be more respectful of the players and their fellow fans.

Excuse, after excuse after excuse. Every NFL team goes through major changes (Chiefs), injuries/suspensions (Broncos/Seahawks/9ers), and rookies (Patriots), but some are winners and some are losers.

Stop being like the rest of this coaching staff, of making excuses the norm.

Losing leadership like Ray, Ed, and Birk hurt much more than we all thought. Their fire, determination, and pure mindset set the tone for the intensity of the 2012 Super Bowl winning Ravens. The 2013 Ravens are more talented than that 2012 team, but lack that fire - the same fire that fueled our playoff run.

That's the difference. Stop making excuses.

I liked a lot of points from this post. I'm personally getting tired of Pees's "bend but don't break" schemes. Hopefully the Jets stink up the joint (unlikely but who knows) so Rex Ryan gets fired and we hire him as our new DC if Pees is let go (unlikely again). What this team needs is more continuity, especially from last year to this year. Familiarity will do wonders for this team to make it back to the playoffs......once more.

Nah. There'll be a guy we can get for DC.

Pees isn't getting it done. Spags will prob take over or maybe Brooks.

I don't think it's fire, I think they lack experience. We made massive changes to the roster and are now somewhat handicapped by how much they can practice together. Week after week we see failed plays because one guy or another blew his assignment. Making major scheme changes during the season is just prolonging the learning curve. Once the players start playing instead of trying to remember what they should be doing, the sky's the limit. I'm very excited about the future.

Experience is the greatest teacher. Losing guys like Birk have hurt us in that regard.

It also floats to the surface eventually. If there are some serious issues going on inside, it'll float up to the surface too.
