[News] Harbaugh: Defense Has To Get Off Field

127 posts in this topic

To me i think the defense is ok..if we were a high scoring offense we wouldnt have this problem i think its unfair to blame our defense this the first time a team scored over 20points on us ever since the broncos game jus how i feel...For our offense to be good i think we...

1.work on o-Line

2.Flacco should become a more audible/peyton manning type qb by reading the defense and ajusting things to get our recievers open..(i dnt care im giving peyton his props)i like our recievers!

3.i think we should offer oregon offensive cordinator a job(insider lol) i think he would put tyrod on the field more and give defense different looks!

& remember its jus my thouths so dont judge me :)

I hate to say it; but right now WE Suck!!! Offense, Defense and Special Teams... We need to make some changes and we all need to do better.

Yeah, the defense needs to get off the field quicker, but I would say that offense needs to stay on the field longer. Even if the offense used the full 40 seconds of the play clock, they still average 45 seconds off the clock per play. So, 3 minutes off the clock, at best, isn't going to give the defense enough time to rest when they are going against offenses that are keeping them on the field 5 or 6 minutes a drive. They need to rethink trying to change the offense to a zone stretch offense when you see we get better runs when we run our old system. I've never seen Marshall Yanda miss a block, but he's missed a couple in this new system. Use the old system and sprinkle the new system in on the things they do extremely well and even throw Tyrod in as a receiver, because they would assume that we are trying to run a wildcat, but keep a defense honest. The offense became so one-dimensional that defenses are just pinning their ears back and getting after Joe. This season is embarrassing as a Raven fan. I thought hell would freeze over before the Browns would be above us in the standings. That probably explains why it's so cold in TX today. Hell froze over. Someone please fix the problem, but defense is probably next to last on that list.

Harbaugh should be ashamed of himself for critixizing our defense after the performance that our offense has been putting on.

I'm almost at the point of believing that we need a bettr HC.

This team would look better with a HC like Bill Parcels or Andy Reid.

The defense needs to get off the filed? More like the offense needs to get a clue. Harbaugh needs to fire his off-season cronyism-sympathy-hire, Castillo, and go back to a power man-blocks-man run game because the new "zone blocking" scheme sucks. The RBs are consistently getting hit solid behind the line of scrimmage. And in Flacco's first three years he was "Checkdown Charlie", always dumping off to Rice who would scamper for 10 yds, but when was the last time they did that? When was the last time they threw a screen pass? Or a quick slant? Or that drag route that Torrey Smith always takes for 20 yards. The offensive line is poor and the offensive scheme is pathetic. I don't know about the rest of you but I didn't see any major differences in the offense game plan against the Browns. Point being is that we shouldn't be playing catchup against the likes of the Bills, the (this year's) Steelers, and the Dolphins. With the offense looking like crap he shouldn't be criticizing the one aspect of the team that's actually held their own this year (exclusive of the 2nd half of the Broncos game).

Couldn't agree with u more. The offense does nothing 4 the whole first half the last three games. It reminds me of of the ravens of a few years back, when everbody said we need 2 put the ball in Flacco hands more . But we have the best fullback in the league and the coaching staff is being so stubborn with changeing up the philosophy to wat it used 2 that they really look idiototic. All im saying is please cut ties with J.Castillo. PLease.

Hindsight... At the time of the draft, we still had Pitta and a Dickson at TE who had a rather good playoffs - so, it didn't look like we were in a dire need of a TE.

As for C: the first C selected after our #32 pick was pick #107, in the fourth round, a player who played 2 games this season... Doesn't sound like a definite upgrade on someone who's had one whole season to learn under Birk. Little did we or the coaches know it back then that Gradkowski wouldn't be an instant success...

I don't think we definitely need a WR. Torrey Smith is still effective, Marlon Brown is now "officially" a real thing, Doss is getting to be the WR we were hoping him to become, and Thompson had good moments. And Stokley is still out... A very good WR would always be welcome of course - but I don't think WR is one of our top 3 immediate needs.

That's fair, I didn't take into account that Pitta went down after free agency and the draft and I know centers are hard to come by, well good centers that is. I remember hearing of his injury and thinking, of course after knowing that it wasn't carreer ending and that he'd be okay after some rehab, that our offence would have a tough time making up his production. Considering how close we are each game, Pitta could have been that difference and with wins instead of losses Gradkowski's mediocre play wouldn't have been in as much of a spot light thus far.
