Good Game

36 posts in this topic

It's hard to believe that this is the first time in SIX YEARS that Cleveland has actually won against Baltimore.  One hell of a game to you all though and you all certainly kept it interesting.

Just a couple of my personal observations from the game:

--  The Browns front four REALLY played well this game.  They kept Flacco moving around for the majority of the game and he just didn't ever really look comfortable.  Major kudos to them with regards to rush defense as well.

--  Not sure who Jones is (WR) but he really looks like he could develop into a solid WR.

--  Not trying to bash too much but the Flacco INT he threw was just one of the worst passes I've ever seen.  He had nothing on it and just kind of floated it up in the air.  What gives?

--  Campbell along with two games of Hoyer have proven that Luckbox Molasses (Brandon Weeden for those that don't know; explanation of name can be given if requested) is done and has no place on the team after the season.  Campbell and Hoyer have proven that this offense HAS good potential and can move the ball successfully.  I truly hope that Hoyer gets a fair shot next season and that they use their high draft picks to get a franchise RB and some O-Line help.

Don't be too down on the Ravens folks.  You've been riding a ridiculously long wave of successful football with the ultimate prize coming last season.  Lulls happen to every NFL team and your team will find a way out of it.

I really don't think the Browns front four did anything special.  A quarterback should be able to make one guy miss.  Flacco routinely folds under pressure and ducks his head if anyone gets anywhere near him and just runs right into the defense instead of staying calm realizing once the first guy misses... he's still got time.  No need to start running around ruining the pocket.

People will just claim "5 sacks, the line is horrible."  But Flacco had plenty of time to NOT take a sack on multiple plays.  He just has no vision, he can not read a defense to save his life, and the worst part is he thinks he can!

The Browns offense... played surprisingly well though.  I don't know what the Ravens defense was doing.

With no threat of a passing game, defenses can just crowd the line of scrimmage all day.  Once they crush the Ravens dreams of running the first few series.... the Ravens give up on it, and the opponent is free to send people at the QB all day.  It's the same thing every week.  Except it's only getting worse.

If you had seen how awful our front four has played in previous weeks then you would know why I'm saying that they did.  For Cleveland it was really good.  They've been getting pushed around badly the last few games.  Whether or not Flacco bounced around because he chose to or because he had to it's better than what we've been doing which is just standing around watching the opposing QB stand there and watch a TV show before throwing the ball.

Your team deserved to win so props to them, the defense was great most of the game and Campbell had another great game. Thanks for the civility, I will always be a fan but I'm starting to think this year might be almost as bad as our 5-11 '07 season but at the moment it already feels a lot more pathetic. That team was ravaged by injuries, this team, in particular the offensive line as a whole for various reasons and the running backs have been inept, period. Maybe your team can actually take this momentum and go with it and parlay it into a wild card spot, the division is still realistic for your team as well if they can take care of the rest of their divisional games. Wishing your team a healthy rest of the season since we're done with each other for the season.

Eh even when we win we almost never blow the opponent out.  The main difference being though that we actually sustained some drives instead of having a zillion 3-and-outs.

The funny thing is I didn't even really think about that until just now.  We're two games behind Cincinnati but we did beat them already so if we could sneak another win by them then who knows.  I don't have high expectations for the team this season but just want to see them making improvements and really without Luckbox in the game they are.  They desperately need a running game though.

I was in the press box when the Browns last beat the Ravens.

Now, I'm suddenly flooded with terrible, terrible memories of the Phil Dawson Rule...

The Phil Dawson rule being that if you actually kick a FG through the uprights it is good?  :D

Don't get me wrong the whole situation was handled poorly back then but the bottom line is that the kick was good.  You shouldn't dwell on past hardships.  It's not like we have that many to hang our hats on LOL.

Well, if you can't beat Cleveland, you're probably not a playoff team.

Haden was correct wasn't he?

Pre Game he said, They weren't afraid of this Raven team.

Times have changed.

You guys showed up on Sunday and we were showing up for the embarrassment....

We were out-coached on Sunday too...

Campbell is old but he played well under Norv Turner; may be it's a good start to draft another similar guy for the future...

PS: I wish our coaching staffs are better cuz we have talents too....../eyeball on Castillo...

If the Browns had drafted Russel Wilson instead of Brandon Weeden they would be a lock to make the playoffs in the mediocre AFC this year and Super Bowl contenders moving forwards. Their only other weakness is at RB and that is easily fixable in the draft next year.

*Surely you know who Jacoby Jones is, right? :D He's our return guy extrordinaire and finally started improving on his routes. If we had a decent running game he'd be a huge x-factor for us. Sadly we all think he's likely to walk at the end of the year. If you were talking about number 14, that was Marlon Brown, a UDFA from Georgia. Beat out some far more highly-touted receivers in the offseason and I already can't wait for his third year.

*I agree that Flacco pick was awful. That game really wasn't his best. That said, the worst throw I've ever seen was one of his against the Bills this year. I really do love the guy, I think he's the least of our problems and I wouldn't take anyone else in the league going forwards (aside from maybe Rodgers, Wilson or Luck), but he does frustrate me sometimes.

*I really think losing to Cleveland is nothing to be ashamed of anymore. You guys have been building a really talented side for a while now, and you have the right schemes and a possible QB of the future. And that defence has to be one of the league's most underrated.

I still feel sick after that game. You guys deserved the win, but I still feel awful after watching it. I swore loudly at my computer screen for a long time when Tandon Doss bottled that punt and THEN failed to recover it after getting his body over it. And I just died inside when Campbell made that pass on 4th and 6. I just felt too deflated to do anything. I'd gotten my hopes up and was really looking forwards to a Joe Flacco game-winning drive when Campbell was running for his life, and then that pass came from nowhere. In my gut I knew that was the dagger and I genuinely feel worse about losing this than I did after the AFCCG two years ago.

That said, having a decent Browns fan around does help a bit. I think I'm going to be upset about how we lost for a very long time and it's great that you showed up and were a decent bloke (or sheila) about it. I'm not being snide when I say I hope you enjoy the win. You guys have been through a lot and deserve to have something go your way.

Man, the Brownies are just a QB and RB away from being what we were for the past five years. If they figure that situation out this off-season, this division is going to be absolutely brutal. 9 - 10 wins will probably take the division

Dang was it Jacoby Jones??  I was watching it with no sound and I could have sworn the TV said M. Jones which I wondered who that was.  That makes sense now!

It sounds like you may be thinking about the rookies Marlon Brown that had the 2 TD passes.
