Should we get rid of Ray Rice?

321 posts in this topic

Ray Rice has had a lot of touches over the last five years.  Look at the other guys he got drafted with:  Forte, Chris Johnson, McFadden, Felix Jones, Mendenhall, Charles.  All of them are declining backs at this point.  At 26, it's already time to think about replacing him.

Charles & Forte are playing well or at least significantly better than the rest of them.

First let's get rid of Ron Rivera and his zone blocking, let's put a man on man. Every analyst in every media can see it is not working.

Don't you mean Tom Flores?

Absolutely, although they get hurt a lot.  And looking at Charles, going back to college he hasn't carried anywhere near the load that Rice has.

It doesn't matter if anyone wants him or not-in the long run cutting Ray Rice will help our football team. Yes we lose money in cap space but so what? We are losing more with him on our team. Let's face the truth Ray Rice is done and we need to cut our losses.

So many problems with this comment. Guess what - if we signed Adrian Peterson or Marshawn Lynch you'd see the same result.

Yeah even Pierce has looked horrid this year.

Not Flacco. Your insane.

Flacco cant play without a running game and that is a fact.  So if you get rid of Rice, Flacco must follow. Its not that hard. If Flacco has to throw 40-50 times we lose the game.  He is not that type of quarterback.

ypu get me his wins and losses when he's forced to throw a lot, he's won a lot more than he's lost. He doesn't need a run game

If we get rid of Ray i would like Flacco to follow.  We over payed both players.  You can add Haloti to the list also.

We overpaid ray rice? Hmm he accumulated over 5000 yards 29 TDs was our leading receiver for 3 straight years...and you think we over paid him?!?!? Id say that is a hell of a reason to give Ray Rice a big contract.  You must not understand how professional football works, when your players do work put up huge stats and stay healthy consistantly PAY THE MAN, period.  Ray Rice has given us superb production since becoming our franchise RB and deserved every penny of that contract he was given. He had a stout year last year with 1600 scrimmage yards and 10tds, but you can only look at the fact that he is having his first off year in friggin 5 years this year (due to a hip flexor and bad o-line play) and you say we should cut him. Wow.

at the rate things are going, Leach will be gone this season. We may even look for a different style of running back soon

I know! Not using Leach makes our backs useless....we out here trying to fit a square peg in a circle hole.

I guarantee it Flacco would have won the game for us today if the defense made a stop on that last drive. Flacco is clutch. That is a fact.

Rice has always used a lead blocker...we took it away from him!!!! Rice runs behind Leach...it's what he does and we abandoned it.

But he's not from VA and cannot scramble (even though he led the team in rushing).

Just ignore him

Not having Leach has nothing to do with Rice's play this year.  With or without Leach, Rice is not the same player.  He doesn't have any burst and he's taking himself out of plays by just falling down.  I'm not writing him off yet, but there's obvious regression.

i don't know what Ray's problem is this year. I don't want to believe he is already wearing down but then again he was a workhorse at Rutgers too before all the touches he's gotten as a Raven. I don't see any reason to trade Ray after this season but maybe if he is looking the same the next season I could definitely see the front office looking at their options.

Then the back-up running backs would excel and that's not the case! The back-ups can't do better than rice. ZBS got the guys tap dancing since we can't set up decent walls and Zone running is not our RBs strength that we have on our roster.

It's not just the scheme.  It's Rice, too.

I understand the blocking scheme and Castillo is what is ruining the entire running game, but there's something else to Rice. He's not as explosive. His vision isn't as strong as it normally is. He doesn't fight for yards anymore.  I don't know if the injury is hampering him or not, but all he seems to do nowadays is get the ball, run right into the pile, and then fall down. Or if its an outside handoff, he runs out, sees the defensive players, fall down.

Maybe he has a psychological fear of someone hitting him so hard it hurts his hip? I don't know, but Rice seems to be running scared.

Flacco can scramble when he wants and no he is not from VA.  What he can't do is put the ball in the air 40-50 times a game and win a football game.  Flacco without a running game is average at best.

Then why can't the back-ups do better?

The scheme is an issue.  I'm not denying that.

Beyond the scheme, Rice isn't doing well.  He's making poor decisions.  He has no burst.  He's not making guys miss.  He's falling down on his own.  That has nothing to do with scheme.

I guess Bernard Pierce must be declining  as well because he's doesn't look any better than Rice. The O-line in general need to block better and I don't  know how they are going to fix that problem.   I think it's hard for Rice or Pierce to even feel comfortable  because as soon as they get the ball  a linebacker is already there to tackle them
