OLD SCHOOL SMASH BALL

Is Thursday Night Football a good thing every week?

I mean....yeah.   This isn't a new idea or anything.  But it won't go away due to the amount of revenue it brings in.  Speaking as a fan, it's nice to have a game to watch on Thursday.

Yes. It's nice in some aspects but for anyone on the East Coast it sucks.

And watching football on NFL Network only sucks; even worse than Monday night football on ESPN

What's worse? The theme song or the lame announcing?

It doesn't give teams enough time to heal and prepare. I can't remember the last TNF game that didn't result in important players getting injured. Not to mention it's NFLN only, so most people don't watch anyway.

oh god i hate the "theme songs" they come out with I thought this was football not a cheesy 80's opening to the superbowl.

Everything. The fact that it's subscription only sucks.

Well CBS apparently thinks it is a good thing. CBS will air 8 TNF games during the 2014 Regular Season.

I also read that in Week 16 there will be a Saturday Double Header with two games on December 20th. Personally, moving the TNF games to Saturday Night would be best as it eliminates the wait between Thursday and Sunday. So while nobody seems to like TNF, it is here to stay.

I get NFL Game Pass so I get to watch them anyway. Most of the games seem pretty average, but I like the chance to watch on a Friday afternoon if it's a decent match-up.

For the players/teams sake I would much rather see them play on Saturdays. As a fan this would be nice, too, because I don't have to get up at 6am on Sunday like I do on Friday mornings. Staying up for the entire Thursday night game is not easy unless it's the Ravens.

On a different note, I think I have my current TV package just for NFL Network. I can go down one level and still get other stations like ESPN but pay less. If CBS is taking eight games I'll probably do it. Really can't stand the NFL Network anyways.

I love watching, it most definitely causes more injuries. I watch mnf muted because of Gruden his voice alone is annoying enough . I do like that it is going to a regular station vs subsciption

The problem with Saturdays though has to do with college football being played then. I hardly ever watch it, but there are plenty of people who do. Fridays sound nice, as long as the NFL is able to make it work for the West Coast people, and if we can work around the Arena Football Schedule, which I believe plays on Friday nights.

Here's another idea: What if, say, NFL Network was to make themselves useful by televising an early game on Sundays? Currently they do "Scoreboard Watch," which I don't think anybody really pays attention to because if they want to see the scores of other games they can either A) Look at the bottoms of their TVs while watching another real game or 2) Grab a laptop or phone. It would not be feasible for them to do a 4-4:30 game because they typically show highlights of the early games then.

I understand that the coverage probably wouldn't bee too amazing, but the idea of giving us all a 3rd 1 PM game to chose from would be great, especially for the people out of their favorite team's market zone.

The majority of TNF games have been horrible as far as matchups go...Those JAX vs TB games do not do it for me. The only game I watched last year was the Denver Ravens game. Keep Thursday games for Turkey Day only. The Sunday and Monday night games are good enough for me personally.

I'll watch the choice match-ups on a Thursday, but I think it would be better for the sport to be on a consistant schedule.

.......... with the exception of Turkey day

I am not a huge fan...the vibe on thursday is not near as intense as Sunday--I am almost annoyed when it is good teams or the Ravens because it does not feel as intense..Plus there is no way it is good for the players. I love the thought of another day of football but it is just not the same feel as a Sunday or even a Saturday college gameday, Monday is enough for me

Vanilla game plans create subpar action plus the teams are minus players that haven't recuperated from an injury that possibly could have let them play on Sunday.

The fan part of me likes it tho but usually I can only make it to halftime. 3: AM comes early.

Well the past couple years I have felt like Thursday night is prime time for scrubby teams. They had some terrible teams featured in 2013 like the Jets, Bills, Browns, Texans, Raiders, Dolphins, Titans etc. It seemed like the NFL was trying to throw a bone to sucky teams and give them a chance to do absolutely nothing for the national TV audience.

I do like Thursday night games because it gives you a nice dose of football to hold you over until Sunday, but hopefully CBS will feature some better matchups. CBS does it better broadcasting the games than NFL network in my opinion, Mike Mayock pretty much spends the entire game talking about the players draft statistics, I swear he would talk about Drew Brees' and Peyton Mannings combine stats from like 10 years ago if they played haha.

"Man I really liked that guy Brees coming out of Purdue, he did'nt run a great 40 time but he is just a guy that can make all the throws" hahaha "I remember the combine of '98 when Manning made some great throws". He is addicted to talking about the combine and draft.

Thought this thread was best for this. The NFL has expanded the Thursday Night Package to now include NBC along with CBS & NFL Network. In 2016 & 2017, the package expands to 10 games with CBS & NBC airing five games each. NFL Network will have 8 late season games on Saturday and others to be announced later.
