Marcus Spears and Michael Huff cut

Waiving Pollard was one of the glaring mistakes.

He was a great tackler and receivers thought about him while attempting to catch a pass.

He enforced the territory in the secondary, but he did get penalized. Most of them unfairly. When attempting to break up a pass he often led with his shoulder or body but got flagged when secondary / incidental contact occurred with the helmets after initial contact with the bodies.  That is something the NFL has to get a handle upon.  (My view is such should not be a penalty and every team should have one "illegal hit" penalty challenge, which they retain when a replay official rules in their favor.)  Those types of penalties are killing the game and altering outcomes.  If the NFL keeps it up, the NHL is going to be the nation's Number One sport.

Pollard played with bruised and broken ribs due to the body hits he laid on receivers and he wore Welker out in the AFC Championship.

What a huge mistake.

Pollard is gone because Harbaugh and the Front Office lack political skills.

didn't think it would ever happen but I agree with you 100%

I personally don't think Ihedigbo is an upgrade over Pollard . I said this then and I will say it now how odd is it that every single player that was extended , every free agent signed  every detail of there contract was reported in the news some media outlet had info on it kickers punters etc   were reported by some news outlets or other. Not one knew the  details of Reeds offer from the ravens the greatest safety of all time a future hall of famer no one had a clue what the specifics of the offer were  . all of this is water under the bridge , Reed should have retired , and ravens management will do what they feel is best for this team .regardless of what the fans think

I thought my husband was being paranoid when he said this about Reed.(his favorite player). to this day he swears the ravens never offered him a dime to stay. having said that he does need to retire he is not the same .

I like to bring up the old idea that if we have another solid CB, we can use Webb as FS cuz he is the best mentoree under Ed Reed.

That' is most likely not going to happen.  We don't have enough outside corners to play webb at safety.  Really he and Jimmy are the only two outside corners.

as hard as that is to admit Reed does need to retire. as for spears I thought he did rather well that was a surprise.I am excited to see what Brown can offer.

yeah, it's sad to not let Webb excel in that position; it's never enough for CBs.....

It's very doubtful that Webb would be a better safety than corner.  I know we've all loved Safety play over the last decade, but Corners are harder to come by and probably still more important.  But Webb has played corner his whole NFL career.  He's not going to play safety as well as a lot of other safetites in the nfl

Bit of a surprise making these moves at this stage, Spears more so.

Part of the reason for doing it now, is there is a chance one or both players could be claimed on waivers and the Ravens would not have to pay their remaining salaries this year.

Ed Reed is 35 years old, coming off hip surgery, and has other chronic ailments from injury. That said, he does not give up the deep ball and Houston is  #1 against the pass.  If he and Pollard were still Ravens we'd be 1 or 2 games better to the good.

This is a Parity League. One or two players can subtly alter the chemistry of a team and the balance of power in the league.  It's so close its almost ridiculous.

"1 or 2 games better to the good"...what does that mean?

He didn't play in week 1 so that game is out. He didn't play in week 2 either but Ravens won that game. He played in Week 3 and Ravens won that game.

In the 3 games after where the Ravens lost by a combined 8 points, Ravens couldn't stop the run.

Not sure how much difference Reed would have made.

Weird.  I didn't expect Huff to be a superstar here, but I expected him to be an adequate stop gap for a couple of years.

Spears could go either way.  He wasn't playing that well and we're back to full strength health wise on the DL.

I didn't know why so many people wanted him to begin with. Not that I thought he was bad, I just didn't think it was a good idea to bring as many new faces as we were bringing. But then again, they ended up cutting Christian Thompson and all the other backup safeties

At the time, it made sense.  We didn't have Elam yet.  Ihedigbo was the only viable safety on the roster.  They knew about Thompson's suspension.  So yeah, it made sense to bring him in.  He was an adequate guy in Oakland playing out of position.  I thought for sure he'd come in and hold down the fort, make a few plays, but remain relatively quiet.  That was wrong lol.

I guess you're right. But it's not like some other team was going hard after him. Or as there? Weren't all the teams in need of a safety set at that time?

So is the consensus about Pollard still that his pass defense was atrocious and that's why he was cut? I mean, I know he had a bad attitude and all...

If I remember correctly, we were the first visit he had, and he may have had 2 or 3 more lined up after us.  For as cheap as we got him, it looked like a great deal.... until we saw him play in week 1.

And yeah, pretty much on Pollard.  It was that and the fact that Ihedigbo was a similar player that was cheaper and didn't come with as many penalties.

I call BS.

We are currently 9th against the pass (technically 8th because there is a tie for 5th).

Last season, with both Pollard & Reed, we were 17th. How would they be making us better again?

Who gets cut when Asa comes back?

When Asa come back I believe either Trawick or Omar will return to the practice squad. But if both play lights out then who?

Jeromy Miles is probably on the chopping block as well.  Outside of the secondary, Stokley and Reid are also viable candidates. We also have 10 LBs on the roster, so we could also stash someone on the IR like Simon if we really needed to.

The only way Trawick plays lights out is if he runs into his own teammate again and knocks their lights out.

Hopefully Corey Graham... Just playing, kinda, but I think Asa steals his job and never looks back. Don't know why, just have a feeling he does well when he returns.

I would take chykie brown over graghm right now.

On another note, why are people still ragging on Trawick?  Obviously he made a pretty big mistake, but that's all it was... a mistake.  I'm sure he's more than learned from it at this point.  Despite that mistake, he made some really nice plays on ST during the preseason.

because huff was supposed to be replacing Reed he was the better safety according to some cats on these forums . I'm not calling for anyone to retire its just my opinion that healthwise might be a good idea.

Because one mistake nullifies everything else you've ever done in your career. Don't you know you can't learn from mistakes? All players should be perfect and never make mistakes! If anyone makes a mistake they should be cut because only losers make mistakes.
