Marcus Spears and Michael Huff cut

Waiting for a Harbaugh dog house comment

Haha came here to say it sarcastically. Must'a been in the doghouse.

These moves are all about ST. And getting rid of the underperforming vets who couldn't play them.

I thought they would keep spears since he's a pretty good run defender when healthy but the ravens know what they doing .

Sorry to see Marcus Spears go.  Experienced and decent against the run.  Plus, you never have enough DL depth.  Great guy.  He'll get another job.

On the other hand, Michael Huff....Goodbye.

Hopefully, the changes won't stop with player personnel.  The in game coaching, play calling, and game planning need to improve also.

Hopefully Corey Graham... Just playing, kinda, but I think Asa steals his job and never looks back. Don't know why, just have a feeling he does well when he returns.

It would be awesome if we could put Graham permanently on ST and move Asa as our primary nickel back. I'd love for that to happen

Would be a big improvement. Graham had his moments especially in the playoffs last yr but that was last yr. Let's hope Asa just keeps his nose clean this time.

Safety has been our weakest position on defense, so the fact that we didn't even see enough from Huff to give him another chance back there after Week 1 means he was just a wasted roster spot.  I was wrong about my enthusiasm for him.  He couldn't help our special teams, even though I'm not sure he was that much worse at safety than what we have.  He obviously wasn't that much better, though, so this is the right move.  Give someone else a chance, someone who can actually contribute to the team via special teams while awaiting their chance to get on the field on defense.

Spears is just getting old and his body is starting to fail him.  I don't think he played that poorly when he actually was healthy enough to play, but again he was wasting a roster spot when we could use someone who contributes in his place.  The Ravens realized their band-aid signings weren't helping enough, so why not just go with the younger guys?  These moves make sense, even if we do end up re-signing either of these guys later on, if necessary.

Unfortunate huff/spears got cut. Both great guys, but didnt live up to the hype.

Looking forward to seeing Omar, he deserves a chance to see whether he belongs in the nfl.

Surprised why Trawick keeps getting 2nd(horsecollar tackle)/3rd(bull-dozing jacoby)/4th chance(PF) this year.

Yeah I'm excited to see Omar because he had a knack to generate turnovers for us during pre-season and we're sorely lacking there. If he can do what he did in pre-season he could be the spark we need.

Trawick looked good in pre-season too. I loved how fast he looked. He's had a disappointing regular season but he's as rookie. He'll probably be cut again soon enough.

On the bright side I could see one or both being claimed in which case we'll be off the hook for their salary. There is always a need for defensive backs but some teams this year have been especially decimated on the d-line (Dallas, New England). So I could see one of them claiming Spears.

Weren't Huff and Spears stalwarts of the "rebuilt defense"?

Weren't these two guys lauded as evidence of Ozzie's Newsome's acumen and sound decision making?

Some said that Huff was a fraction of even current Ed Reed.  Did Ozzie not see that?

Now the crowd is lauding the decision to release these guys and eat some "salary cap".

They may be back. It's unlikely anyone else will sign them.

Come on man!

Agree with some of that.

The special teamer that should never have been released was number 35. Was that a strange move.

This is a team in chaos and it all stems from the initial decisions.

It is not good.

I for one was against Huff , I said letting reed and pollard  go was a big mistake and I can list at least ten people on these forums who called me emotional and lacking in football knowledge. sometimes its better to take the high road and not rub there nose in it .

He's still out there, if they wanted him back he'd be in purple

I'm thinking Stokely but could be wrong.

If he doesn't heal up he may be the next on the block. I like Brandon. I hope he stays a bit longer.

I see your point.

Fan is condensed from Fanatic. There's scores here that love their team and they aren't gonna let logic deter them.

My point from the inception has been that is fine for fans, but it is fatal for a Front Office.  The inability to see the consequences of their conduct is without reprieve.  There is nothing to defend. They must go.

pollard was a good player but he was too reckless on team costing penalties and etc . The ravens wanted ED Reed back and they offer him a contract but move on to  the texans because they offered more money.

The argument at the time was Huff was better "then a broken down Reed". I disagreed .Pollard was waived because he challenged Harbaugh he was a good solid player he did get penalities agree with that .

The only upside (if you can call it that) is that Reed is not exactly setting the world on fire in Houston. He says that he and the rest of the team are gonna start playing playoff football from here on out but all I seen from him is hesitation and coming up lame on almost all his plays. While I miss seeing #20 on the field in purple, I think the Ravens made a good move not paying him just to have him injure himself again. Huff was not a good replacement. He lacked coverage skills and seemed lost most of the time.

Now that the Ravens let Huff and Spears go I am wondering who's next. Superbowl hang over or what. The sad part is I have been to every game except for the Denver game and I don't think it's the players fault. Blame goes all around. Mr. Coach if you don't watch out they will be calling for your head. And I can not figure out for the life of me why did you all not throw down field in the Pittsburgh game. Pittsburgh can not cover any one. Thanks for reading. I am being hopeful on this season.

Waiving Pollard was one of the glaring mistakes.

He was a great tackler and receivers thought about him while attempting to catch a pass.

He enforced the territory in the secondary, but he did get penalized. Most of them unfairly. When attempting to break up a pass he often led with his shoulder or body but got flagged when secondary / incidental contact occurred with the helmets after initial contact with the bodies.  That is something the NFL has to get a handle upon.  (My view is such should not be a penalty and every team should have one "illegal hit" penalty challenge, which they retain when a replay official rules in their favor.)  Those types of penalties are killing the game and altering outcomes.  If the NFL keeps it up, the NHL is going to be the nation's Number One sport.

Pollard played with bruised and broken ribs due to the body hits he laid on receivers and he wore Welker out in the AFC Championship.

What a huge mistake.

Pollard is gone because Harbaugh and the Front Office lack political skills.

Huff getting cut makes sense. Spears is a little more surprising, I thought he has been a decent contributor but he has struggled to stay healthy. I think this says more about Williams and Tyson emerging than anything else.

I dont think Pollard  was cut because he challenged Harbaugh . I think The Ravens overall came up with the decision that they wanted to upgrade at the  strong safety position by moving on with a safety whom could be better in coverage and be more discipline on the field which is what James Ihedigbo  is right now.  Pollard may have challenged Harbaugh but if he was disrespectful what do you expect Harbaugh to do?

The ravens wanted Ed Reed back  but Ed Reed wanted more money than The Ravens wanted to offer which resulted in him going to the texans  and forcing the ravens to sign Micheal Huff. Huff was suppose to the guy to fill  the void Ed Reed left but  it didn't work out.

I personally don't think Ihedigbo is an upgrade over Pollard . I said this then and I will say it now how odd is it that every single player that was extended , every free agent signed  every detail of there contract was reported in the news some media outlet had info on it kickers punters etc   were reported by some news outlets or other. Not one knew the  details of Reeds offer from the ravens the greatest safety of all time a future hall of famer no one had a clue what the specifics of the offer were  . all of this is water under the bridge , Reed should have retired , and ravens management will do what they feel is best for this team .regardless of what the fans think.

I like to bring up the old idea that if we have another solid CB, we can use Webb as FS cuz he is the best mentoree under Ed Reed.
