He really had no choice but to lay down the ban hammer. He still owns the team though right?

For now.

I don't agree with the ban, but it is what it is. This is the NBA trying to get this thing quiet as fast as possible.

Commissioner did what he had to do.

Sterling's racist views were broadcast and threatened the $ of the league and the owners. Sponsors, players, fans, etc upset by it. He's got to bounce!

It's unfortunate that this has been a proverbial dark cloud hanging over the best first round of the NBA playoffs that I can remember in quite some time.

Way to go Wizards. Total team effort, offensive rebounding was awesome! Killed 'em in the last 2:30! Team "beast mode" all the way.

Floyd Mayweather interested in buying Clippers.

Is it ok to replace a racist with a woman beater?

But to answer seriously... KD had just got ball to shoot 2nd FT.. Joey ran up to him and stopped him because someone screwed up something at scoring table

Yeah, just saw it. Could definitely see how that could mess up his flow.

Great series though. 4 consecutive postseason OT's is unheard of.

Mayweather could buy like 1/10th of the Clippers. Net worth of about $150M (not all liquid of course).

Hate when people talk about doing things outside their means.

From a business point of view, can the NBA ban Sterling from the NBA?  That would be like Roger Goodell banning Steve Bisciotti from entering the castle or going to the stadium.  He owns the team!

That's very understandable about the league and stuff, and I am not on Sterling's side...  but I don't see how he  or anyone can get fined 2.5m for being racist. To me that's a joke, especially when we have "freedom of speech" so to say.   Should be called "freedom of speech...with limitations to what you say."  cause that makes sense hah...

Well, he said something that damaged (that's an understatement) the league's reputation and potential earnings. Sponsors pulled out, players/coaches/fans were upset, and the NBA got a huge black eye. $2.5M may be light compared to the stain it put on the league.

He's representing a franchise of a billion dollar company. If he harms that with what he says, it's frankly irresponsible for the NBA not to act/stop that bleeding.

He was free to say what he wants, he did, he won't go to jail for it BUT saying what you want does not mean it is immume to a response from others.

I'm glad the league acted quickly to bring it to a definitive resolution, the faster Sterling can slink back into the shadows and live out the last of his years with his outdated views, the better.

Yup freedom of speech applies to the government. If you went into a daycare center and you saw the teacher cussing out the kids, then any sensible person would report it to the manager and get that person fired. Freedom of speech does not mean freedom from consequences.

I am sure if Sterling doesn't let go of the team, the players will probably leave in FA and Doc Rivers could go as well. Heck, the NBA could always kick the Clippers out of the league and start a new team in a new city although I don't know if they could do that last one. I just know Seattle could really use a basketball team.

Whats funny is the fact that Mayweather wants to buy (with a bunch of other people) the Clippers when he's just as much a racist as Sterling. Ha, NBA would likely never allow the sale to involve Mayweather. At least I would hope not.

He is, but thats just one reason why Money May doesn't have the support of the black community. He would never be allowed to become the new owner.

Agreed I understand all that...but should you have to give up 2.5m for a comment you made just because people don't like it? Way more than ridicules..reminds me of Paula dean hah, targeting rich people... words arn't anything more than what people make them...overall was it the right move though by the Silver? Definitely

One thing I laugh at here is Michael Jordan having anything to say in regards to civil rights when the 8 year olds making his shoes have no human rights

When you represent an organization as a part-owner, what you say reflects on the organization. If you take away from that company's earnings, they have the right to punish you - especially when you sign the mythical NBA constitution that Silver brought the punishment from.
